We have a glaring gap for a 1-2 D man and a second line power forward ( a " What Weiss was supposed to be") If Mantha can be part of the bait that brings a legit defenseman here, I think this team is closer to a contending team than most would think.

I completely agree. I think Babcocks coaching days are over in Motown unless he has an equal say in who is coming into the organization. Som elf the comments he made during this year really indicate that he felt Holland was not addressing the teams needs. I think if Babcock states, he will want Phaneuf- Babs likes physical hockey and probably feels that Dion is moldable under him.

I think of guys that are still under contract. I see a trade as our best scenario, especially for teams that are cap heavy. Certainly we have some young talent and some depth that we could shed to get a guy that isn't happy ( or the organization is not happy with) I am thinking of Eric staal who is only 30 and is slowly dying in Carolina. I would also love to have a guy like Wayne Simmons from Philly. We need to address the blue line first though.....not sure if the Dion trade has any merit ( for Weiss going that way with Smith) but something needs to happen back there. I always really, really liked Tyler Myers and I feel like we missed the boat on him.

My bad- sorry about that peeps. Either way, seeing Ottawa in and #ittsburg or Boston out would make the playoffs just that much sweeter! as long as the Wings get in, all is good but a boston or Pitty falling out would be awesome

Yep, if BOS looses to the caps tonight, they will be tied in points with Ottawa (95) ( this is there game in hand) so both Ottawa and Boston will be 1 back from the Pens (96) and 2 behind us (97) Boston has Florida and Tampa to play, Pitt has NYI and Buffalo to play. Boston could be out if they were to loose the next game and only get a point in their last. Pitt would need to loose both OR get help from Ottawa...but all of these scenarios are dependant on the other teams.

Boston isn't a lock either. They have won their last 5 games BUT Chara is out tonight and they play the Lightning and Washington. the only reason they are ahead of us as the 3 Rd seed is because they won the series against us in the regular season.

I also think that we are so used to Zetterberg going into complete beast mode this time of year that it just magnifies his struggles. No one who lave guessed that Abby would have six more goals than Zetterberg..... And Glenny would have 5 less- those are some disturbing facts. The guy has been so clutch for so long that you always expect him to get the GWG and put this team on his back as he has always done and that just hasn't happened so far this year. Whether it's fatigue, an injury or just a terrible slump, it's obviously a factor. All I know is that Zetty has the heart of a lion and we will claw his way into the last 6 games. I agree that putting him with Pavel is the right move.....get him going and u least the beast

How are we F ed? It's not like we we going to put Backman in as his replacement if he is injured. Two guys that are not headed to the NHL for a gritty, big body guy who can score. I don't know why everyone is on the ledge here.
