TSN is reporting that 5 guys have filed for arbitration this afternoon (before the 5pm deadline) and neither of them are Eaves or Miller. What the heck? Sorry if this is a re-post: couldnt find it here

Zetterberg is eye candy for all the motown ladies, and Getz is a homely guy...Z is a hot commodity...Oh, plus the whole "defensive genius', world class playmaker and shutdown stud. Hank is gonna have a great year (my prediction) PS Dont talk about Getz in the playoffs or that "they have the same amount of Stanley Cups"...The ONLY thing you should remember about comparing these 2 is Hank has a Conn Smythe....enough said!

Born in Windsor in 1970...the era of the Dead Things! My dad was a lifelong fan...he once ate at The Tunnel BBQ with the Production Line (the three of them.... and Howe got hammered!) and he would tell us stories of the old Olympia and some of the shenanigans that went on there. I remember listening to WJR radio in the car that covered all the Tigers and Wings games. When Stevie Y was drafted we had moved about an hour from Windsor, but like all young girls, I had a mad crush on the future captian. Once I started playing hockey, my die-hard fandom hit...and the rest is history!

C'me on...He deserved a raise.The guy isnt a 4th line guy...45 points at 1.8 million is a great deal!
-
Get it done already!

Couldn't agree more. Bert can play on the top line or the 3rd. Give me one player name that can put up 45+ points in a season for the kind of money he is making? Get it done Kenny!

Well said. Does no one here remember that we did not have a healthy full roster at any point during the year...and we get Happy back. I am excited...I think we will be a better team now that Howard has had his baptism by fire!
-
Owen Nolan is like 105 years old...I dont think we need the team to get older! As for Bert, for the money, he is a great deal if he stays around what he got last year. As for Homer, lets pray for health!

See ya in Wyoming

Honestly People...Last week everyone was having an anxiety attack that Lids wouldn't return and now all I am hearing is: 1) 6.1 Million is too much cash for Lids and you are disappointed 2) Mr. X that plays for ______ is making 7 million, or 4.5 million or took a discount for his team and 3) We wont be competitive because we cant go out and get some UFA that will likely get more money than he is worth in a crappy RFA year. Who cares what Keith makes...or Campbell for that matter- Is Lids worth a 6.1 million hit to this team..and yes, of course he is. Heres the thing. Nick could have gotten much more money in the past but has always stayed loyal to Detroit. He did take a pay cut to stay because he could have gotten more than 6.1 on any team. Although I am surprised at the number ( I was thinking 5) it doesnt matter. We keep our leader, the Captian and for all of you who dont think we can be competitive this year...Hello? Lidstrom, Pavel, Z, Franzen...all top tier guys that can win a cup. I am happy that the deal is done..now we can sign the guys who played hard for us all year and will next year.

My step son and I were driving the other day and he said "Hey Mom, if you got a new expansion team and could build your own franchise, how many Wings would be on it". The conversation went from there, so I asked him if we were A) talking about active players playing right now and B) how many spots we got to pick. We decided on a 6 man roster...1 goalie, 2 Defense, 3 forwards. We both considered past experience, playoff experience, age and possible chemistry, and explained why we chose the players we did. We each built our 6 player rosters and I thought I would pose the question to the LGW boards to see who would take who. My sons roster was: Miller, Chara, Doughty, OV, Sid, Malkin Mine was as followed Bryzgolov ( Talented guy, Still Young, Well liked in the room) Doughty ( guy is wise beyond his years, has great puck sense and not afraid of physical play) Keith ( great vision, terrific at both ends, plays in every situation) Crosby (as much as it pains me, I would take Sid as he is developing into the complete player at such a young age) Ovechkin (although he doesnt play well in his own end, he is the best sniper out there) Zetterberg (great offensively and Defensively, plays better in the playoffs that the reg. season- the complete player IMO) * It was very hard to decide whether to take Dats or Z as both have been Selke nominees, but in the end, I took Z for his leadership and playoff prowness.

Agreed. He is a better D-man than Lebda, Meech and Kindl....See ya Lebs

If we didnt have to give up anything except picks, and its a cap dump for the Leafs, do you like it? Meaning do you think he could be an asset to the team? I agree that he could easily be a 50-60pt guy on the Wings because he is dying in Toronto.

Kinda suck since the Wings aren't in it. Although I love hockey...I just cant get into it without cheering for the Wings

4.25 Million and a UFA next year 2011

I am probably in the minority but I actually wouldnt mind Kaberle if Lids retires. We would need a veteran...and Raffi doesnt seem to embrace that role. In terms of Defensemen that are good puck movers at a reasonable price (he made 4.2 mill last year) he is not a bad option. We play Raffi 6 million and some of the guys that are in Tomas's caliber are making 7 million (thinking of Campbell and Redden- both GIGANTICALLY overpaid) No one is going to replace Lids...but I am sure he would come here and take a little less to be on a winning team. Kaberle has averaged around 40 points a season the last 5 years playing with no real secondary d-men until the latter part of this year but he was hurt for a time. If Burkie wants to deal Kaberle, I doubt he wants anything from Detroit that he could get (like Pavs or Hank)- he wants to clear up capspace so he can sign the biggest UFA-Kovalchuk.

LOL,but true. Who is a RW fan supposed to cheer for. Chicago? No way- Kane doesnt need a stanley cup to stroke his cab beating, Napolean complexed ego. San Jose? Well, that means I would have to hear Joe Pavalski's name one more time which is enough to force me to turn off the TV. How about Philly? C'me on- I cant root for the scumbag Pronger or his dirty duo teammates, Hartnell and Carcillo. That leaves the Habs. I'll root for the Habs even though Max Lapierre is clearly a psychopath and Cinderella will never find her shoe. C'me on October 6th! Thats when the real hockey begins again

The voting ends in an hour or something- right now its Datsyuk at 49.9 percent and stamkos at 50 % ( I have no idea how thats possible) BUT get a vote in at tsn.ca for the Pasha magic!

Nice job on the site!

I agree that Babs may be trying to motivate Huds, but come on...each guy on this list is on the top line/ or 1A line of his team. They play with the best. They get 20+ minutes a night more ice time. Hudler has always been given scraps in terms of playing time and he consistantly gets better each year. If Happy can get 47 pts with 10 minutes a night.... if he gets 18-20 minutes a night, Hudler can get 70 points IMO.

I think Lils has actually gotten better. For his salary, Id like to keep him. Lebda is gone so one of the young guys will get a shot.
-
I am so glad to see Pekka Rinne get some love- He would be my back-up to Breezy. He is very underrated in the league...I had hime this year in our office pool and everyone thought I was nuts!
-
Seems a bit unfair that you get 14 guys and the rest of us get six.lol!

I almost took Stamkos over OV ....it was hard because the kid has so much potential and I love his game but Ovechkin brings the physical play. Stamkos would be hard to pass up!
