this is only comparing the 2000-2003 devils and 2008-2011 wings and has nothing to do with any other years

I'd say the odds of Mitchell signing with Detroit are about as good as Modano getting 30 goals this year, could it happen? Absolutely. will it happen? not likely
-
I would say its more the fact that they thought there was no way they would give up the lead so they stoped playing the last 10 minutes of the game.
-
How did grigorenko make that list?
-
breaking news: ESPN has cancelled Modano's "Decision" and replace it with Favre's. typical ESPN, putting hockey last
-
Not to mention chicago is hosting the wings for their home opener(skip the first 20 minutes) modano vs turco

modano to hudler, he scores!! -ken Daniels

journalists are just getting lazy

why are people assuming that if modano signs with detroit he will automatically get more ice time than Helm or Abby? i understand that he will be penciled in at 3rd line center but last time i checked everyone had to earn their spot on the roster. if helm and abby outwork and outplay modano babs will give them more ice time, you think that holland isnt constantly looking for things to make the team better? competition is a very good tool that holland and babs can use to get guys to give 110% on every shift, and make sure that they will be playing in the next game. who knows maybe helm, abby, miller, draper, and eaves beat him out and modano becomes the 14th forward.
-
I feel like it would be nice to have some discussion over something that isn't Modano for a while http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2010/07/a_full_red_wings_prospect_camp.html
-
hopefully he comes out of the gate flying at training camp and gets a few call ups this year
-
my guess would be that eaves is on his way out if modano signes. Helm Abby draper are for sure on the team, ritola has to much upside, and miller is to valuable for the pk if he goes. I know that eaves is just as important on the pk but other than that modano would be more valuable this year than him
-
i dont know about the last 3 seasons, but last year he played mostly on the 4th line with guys like Toby Peterson, Fabian Brunnstrom, Krys Barch, Brian Sutherby, and Brandon Segal. He managed to get 30 pts in 59 gms with not a lot of help. Imagine if he had Hudler, Cleary, Helm, Abby, and eaves rotating around him all year, and thats if he doesnt get put on the top 2 lines due to an injury. if he stays healthy theres no reason to think he couldn't get 15-20 goals and 45-60 pts
-
every year i want the wings to make a big splash in free agency like they did in the pre-cap NHL, but then a team goes and does something like this and it makes me appreciate Mr. Holland even more
-
1 year deal only please. if he plays next year and then retires the wings are still on the hook for 2011-12
-
I will admit that the hawks offseason isn't going as bad as I has hoped. But I wonder how long it will take for them to get some chemistry. You always see that the points you don't get in October and November come back to haunt you in March and April the hawks better hope that there lines click right away or the wings will run away with the division pretty quick
-
If this is in fact a done deal what's the hawks cap situation like now?
-
Here is a rough estimate on what the lines are going to be: Z-Pav-Homer Mule-Flip-Bert Hudler-Abby-Clears Eaves-Helm-Miller/Draper/Ritola http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2010/06/st_james_red_wings_babcock_pla.html

saw this photo on nhl.com and it made me think about how much the wings have changed since I was a kid. If you went up to a 12 year old me and said that 10 years from now Yzerman and Bowman would be working with different organizations and Fedorov would be playing in Russia i would have called you a liar and punched you in the junk. Now that im getting older and understand that people have their reasons for leaving the organization I'am able to be content with it, but still the fact that my childhood heroes are leaving the organization makes me realize that i'am getting older and to not take players like Datsyuk and Zetterberg for granted.

i would just like to note that the draft jersey he is wearing Delvecchio's retired #10. I know that all the teams draft jerseys have the number of the draft year, but i wonder if Kenny, babs and the gang who went up on stage had something to say to bettman about it. If anything it was a rare opportunity to see a #10 wings jersey. i hope its a good omen of how this draft class will turn out for the wings

so let me get this straight. Pavelski had 4 or 5 really good games in the playoffs and gets 4 mill a year. if I were a sharks fan I would be a bit upset. Imagine if the wings gave franzen the contract he has now right after the Colorado series. I understand that the mule had another year left in his contract and was able to show he was not a one hit wonder. The sharks better hope pavelski works out like they are hoping or this will be a very horrible cap eating contract 2 years from now

Armchair GM for the WIngs - Whats your ideal roster?

2010-11 NHL SALARY CAP CALCULATOR 2010-11 DETROIT RED WINGS CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR FORWARDS Johan Franzen ($3.955m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) / * mike modano ($1.250m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($1.938m) * Arron Asham ($0.650m) / * Darren Helm ($0.800m) / * Justin Abdelkader ($0.900m) * Drew Miller ($0.750m) / Kris Draper ($1.583m) DEFENSEMEN Brian Rafalski ($6.000m) / Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($0.900m) * Derek Meech ($0.700m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($0.717m) / Chris Osgood ($1.417m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (these totals are compiled using the bonus cushion) ROSTER: 23; CAP:$59.4m; PAYROLL: $58.725m; CAP ROOM: $0.675m BONUSES: $0.000m Kenny said he wanted a Dallas Drake like player, well I have the wings signing Arron Asham and Mike Modano. I feel like those 2 guys will have the effect that Drake did. Asham(sandpaper) Modano(veteran who wants to go out on top). I chose to give the Wings enough cap room to be able to bring guys up for injuries instead of getting another defenseman. if it comes to it meech could always be traded for someone better -
looks like hes leaning towards coming back. http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/rumors/post/Modano-likely-to-return-but-not-to-Dallas?urn=nhl,250311

i have a feeling he will either play for Dallas,Detroit,or retire. I don't see him playing for some random team just to win another cup. If he thinks Dallas has a shot at a cup next year(they are at least 3 years away) and is comfortable with how they will use them he will sign there. If he wants to come back to Michigan to finish his career closer to his family and will be ok with how Babs will use him he will sign with the Wings. If he doesn't like either of the situations then its been a hell of a career.
