Seeing as how he has a shot to make the show from day 1 this year, id like to hear people's opinion on if that is the best thing for his long term development. If he does make it and then goes into a slump and gets demoted to GR would that hurt his confidence? Would he be better off being the go to guy in GR and probably dominating for most of the year or playing 10-12 minutes a night and scoring 18-22 goals if all goes well?

A lot of people that think the wings will fight to get in to the playoffs seem to forget that other than Boston, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and somewhat Florida the rest of the teams in the east were fighting for 6 playoff spots when the Olympics were over. Add in the fact that the wing were 2/3 of the Griffins during that time and they lost, if I remember correctly, 8-12 shoot outs. If they win those shoot outs all of a sudden the wings are playing Tampa bay in the first round and there is no talk of the wings getting bounced in the first round, second round probly but there are 22 teams that would have loved to made it that far, including Detroit.

Let's do that in the Pepsi center. Not a bad idea! Let's turn out the lights and give the refs night vision goggles and let the players shoot in the dark. If you hear a whistle it's no good, but if the goal light comes on its in.

Report: NHL to have 5 outdoor games in 2014-15.
Wings4Life19 replied to cusimano_brothers's topic in General
I still like the idea to stop selecting a hand full of teams to play in these outdoor games and just make the All-Star game the only one. -
I'm so happy that it wasn't Chicago to break the streak. Every year that passes shows just how tough it is to do that.

Would explain a lot as to why he was ruled out so early for game 5 http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2014/04/red_wings_recall_goalie_jake_p.html

The pace is getting quicker, players must be more comfortable with the conditions -

Lets hope Eaves doesn't have another concussion -
I can't be the only one who thinks the HBO cameras are a bit too much of a distraction

Does anybody know if these alumni games will be broadcast outside of the michigan area? Perhaps online(not asking for any links to streams or anything like that). There are plenty of wings fans that don't get FSD on our tv's and need center ice or gamecenter that will be very disappointed if we can't watch our hero's one last time. I wonder how much Stevie will work on his skating before the game?

Lidstrom staying for as long as did was really holding the franchise back.

Roster decisions, LTIR not an option til Tuesday

Emmerton was just put on waivers(bob Mckenzie) does that mean Helm is good to go? -
I'm in the same boat as most here, for this year and possibly next, I say we go with monster as the backup and let petr get better in GR. After that Kenny needs to decide if we have a great 1-2 goalie group or get some needed depth in return.

signed Brendan Smith signs 2-year, $2.525m contract with Red Wings

Hopefully that is a steal a year from now. -
He seemed like he was always just on the brink of success before it fell apart, went to the finals 3 times with 3 different teams and lost them all. Had a chance to get a lot of starts with the Wings and couldn't put a string of wins together. At least he is still around the game. http://www.nhl.com/ice/m_news.htm?id=677847

I think he should wait the normal 3 years. Not because he doesn't deserve to have it waived for him but because after three years of not being in the league everyone will have plenty of time to realize just how dominate and insanely great he actually was. So in 2015 we will not only have another reason to re-live his career but by then he might be able to get the recognition that I feel he never got when he played.....still have no idea how he was never at least nominated for the Hart.

I agree there is a difference from the odd game against the east here and there and playing them potentially 3 times a week, but thats still a 61% winning percentage against eastern teams over a great deal of time. Your argument doesn't hold up, if the east is so much more physical than the west then why has the west won 5 of the 8 cups since the lockout and 11 of the last 19. Shouldn't the east have just bullied there way to a cup every year. The last time i checked NHL games are decided by the team that scores the most goals not by who has the most hits, if the rules have changed please let me know.

At the end of the season they don't ask how, they ask how many.

Detroits record vs East last 6 years: 07-08= 7-2-1 08-09= 12-5-1 09-10= 9-6-3 10-11= 12-4-2 11-12= 10-7-1 12-13= N/A Total Record= 50-24-8 That just happens to be 82 games, and in the cap world 50 wins over a full season usually gets you a division title.

I'm just happy that nobody can use the "Kenny did nothing with this roster over the offseason" argument for another year Seriously though, I think we are better than we were last year. And it hard to get a feel for how good they can be considering they are now in the east.

One of the few times the wings dont trade their first round pick and this is what happens.
