and a line in the sand that you DO NOT CROSS! -
Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't you the Pens fan who told another member of this forum who is a Wings fan... to die earlier today? I think you did. If Pittsburgh wins, they'll deserve full marks for a miraculous come back but, make no mistake, the Red Wings will have to suffer an implosion of epic proportions for that to happen. This series isn't over as far as games available to be played, but Detroit likes winning, they're good at it. It's what they do. I honestly don't see them losing this and I'm not being presumptuous. Realistically speaking, aside from Osgood and Helm, they haven't necessarily been playing to the best of their abilities lately. They can play better than they have been. Chicago can attest to that, should there be any lingering doubt about it. Quite frankly I'm stunned by Pittsburgh's ineptitude. These guys steam rolled Carolina and have basically been taken to task by a team that was supposed to be too old and battered to hold it together for back to back games. Hossa, who was supposed to wilt like a flower in the sun, under the enormous pressure of having to play against the team he betrayed, has been all over them and while he hasn't scored, I suspect he'll be knocking on that door soon enough. We don't even have Datsyuk in the line up. We don't even have Pavel Datsyuk in the line up. If the Penguins manage to take this series from Detroit they will have deserved the win, because the Red Wings will have gift wrapped it for them. Don't bet on that.

it was recinded. -
no s***...can we please put Hasek to bed. He was great against the Avs one year and helped us win a cup, but seriously....he was never our savior.
-
Totally. Anyone who contests that Osgood has been playing lights out is in major denial. He's a lock and if he's snubbed I will be ******* livid! He's earned it and deserves to be recognized for his outstanding work this post season.

Too early to start the Osgood for Conn Smythe talk?
Rocket Queen 30 replied to swordfish's topic in General
Nope... barring a major upset.. it's his... Conn Smythe Goalie!! -
hahhahaha! Well played.

I do.. I actually posted it in a couple of threads already. I'll email it to you if you want.

I hear ya and I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm just saying winning can cover a multitude of sins. For my money, a cheap shot here or there isn't going to disgrace a championship considering what these guys go through to get there.

The Pens and their fans being bitter at Hossa for his decision to play for anther team whom he believed to have a better chance at winning in the post season is akin to the idiocy of Colorado retiring Ray Bourque's number. Are you s***ting me people?? Manufacturing history is totally lame.

Exactly, and jeezus what the hell is up with the hard on for "class" in the heat of competition? There will be time for class and dignity and honor when the series is over. Until then, there is a reason the saying "all's fair in love and war" exists. This isn't golf people. It's the Stanley Cup Finals. It isn't the most difficult competition to win because the gentlemen on the ice are so dignified and gentile. You do what you have to do to win and if that weakens your stomach, maybe hockey really isn't the game for you.

It's pretty interesting that on one hand you say that there's no reason to keep arguing over this issue while on the other hand you keep harping on it. Like I said... of course he's on the decline.. dude isn't as young as he once was, but you're completely disrespecting his contributions to this team by trashing on him the way you are. We get it, you don't like him. I don't like every player on the team all the time myself, but you're speaking of Holmstrom as though he's somehow hampered our progression in the post season. Dude... do you not realize we're in the finals... and leading? It's also funny that you describe people's loyalty to Holmstrom as a hard-on when you're obviously attempting to contain a huge boner for him.

QUOTE I'm not a fan of Paul Devorski, but the fact the puck was sitting on Osgood's back was a very unlikely scenario. When a glove is over the puck sitting in the blue ice it is a very easy call. When a glove is over the puck sitting on a red shirt it is probably something Devorski never saw before in all his years calling NHL games. It was a bizarre random event that is not likely to happen again. Sid saw it because he is smarter than anybody else on the planet when it comes to all things hockey. Nobody else (Pens players and coaches) seemed to make a big deal about it because most people don't have Sid's inherent hockey genius to assess such an unlikely situation like that in a split second. now THAT'S funny!

I defy someone to say that ANYWHERE.

Actually... it's not that nobody gets their ass handed to them like Holmstrom. It's that he takes that abuse and gives it right back. That's not getting your ass handed to you. That's grit and heart and the kind player you want on your team when its about winning battles of will and determination, which is crucial in the finals. You have your opinions, and you're entitled to them, but you're missing the mark on your argument against Holmstrom in the line up and you're not going to change anyone else's mind.
-
You're talking apples and oranges with that....not to mention hypotheticals but, if you want me to get in to it... if a players family member dies... and he decides to keep playing I guess he's kind of accepting that something like that might happen. Is it cool? Hell no and more than likely the majority of opponents would refrain from using something like personal tragedy to get under someones skin but, I'm pretty sure there's more than one or two guys in this league that just might sink to that level. Again, I'm not condoning it. I'm just saying cheap shots are going to happen. Scumbaggery occurs and sometimes, in pressure situations where the stakes and emotions are high, people are likley do and say things that they wouldn't necessarily do to the average person on the street. Is all I'm sayin'.

Oh I'm not saying I approve... I'm just saying it's gonna happen. Ericsson's surgery was pretty minor as far as surgeries go and I'm sure whatever they did they weren't doing it to seriously injure him, but rather make him think twice. Also, a shot to the head of someone who has sustained head trauma is also considerably worse that a shot to the gut to someone who's undergone an appendectomy... Ericsson was out what, one game? Of course it's not classy, but really...how classy do you want your hockey? Lady Byngs all around? This isn't figure skating.
