SORRY in advance if this has already been posted....thought it interesting.... http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2009/07/re...cap_issues.html Red Wings' potential cap issues point to trade on defense, Justin Abdelkader demotion Posted by George James Malik July 06, 2009 19:34PM Categories: Griffins The Oakland Press's Pat Caputo questioned whether Red Wings forward Jiri Hudler is really worth $2-3 million on the open market, suggesting that Ken Holland should pass on signing him...And as Hudler could garner a $3.5 million salary, I don't see why Holland shouldn't at least attempt to get a $2-2.5 million deal done. As the Macomb Daily's Bruce MacLeod notes, however, the Wings will have cap issues if they sign him: July 6, RedWingsCorner: Looking at a possible NHL roster, the Red Wings have 11 forwards, 8 defensemen and 2 goalies signed. That roster includes Leino, Darren Helm, Justin Abdelkader, Derek Meech, Jonathan Ericsson, Brett Lebda and Andreas Lilja. That roster does not include Jiri Hudler. That roster has a cap hit of approx. $55.117 million. That leaves $1.683 million of room left under the $56.8 million cap. With 11 forwards, the Red Wings obviously need two more and they have two slots open with the roster that I'm using. The problem is that Hudler's salary is going to make the Wings do a cap dance again. Hudler could be given a salary of $3-4 million by an arbitrator. Even if he signs for $2 million, that puts Detroit over the cap limit. So, with $1.683 of room, the obvious place to cut salary is on defense, where eight is a luxury. Add on Hudler at $3 million and a 13th forward like Jeremy Williams at $500,000 (salary guess) and you've got a team payroll of $58.6 million. So, you've got two options ... hope that the entire league office has dyslexia and reads $58.6 million as $56.8 million ... or cut $1.817 million off the payroll. I honestly have no idea whether the Wings are simply assuming that Andreas Lilja will not play this upcoming season, but it appears that his $1.25 million salary becomes the Wings' cap room, with Derek Meech ($483,000) and/or Brett Lebda ($650,000) possibly expendable if necessary. I don't believe that the Wings would buy anyone out at this point, and it seems like Justin Abdelkader's $850,000 salary might be the other pressure point that would involve a demotion for the sake of adding a bargain-priced free agent grinder. The Wings want Abdelkader to play 20+ minutes per game in Grand Rapids, not 8 minutes on the fourth line in Detroit.

Tha's NOT EVEN FUNNY! Don't joke like that....I will be sad if he's not a Wing next year.....but I'll watch him play with anyone BUT THEM! If all else fails....I'd like to see him in Tampa since that's where I will probably be moving in 2010... NOT F'ksberg!

THANK YOU! I learned something today!!! Making a heck of a lot more sense now!!!
-
ah ha...if so then that makes sense
-
Oh yeah, I completely understand that, I'm one to have mentioned the idea as well....I was just wondering what the rules were for the mandatory raise and such because if it IS mandatory then he should get a little under $1.8M for the next two years....unless in contract there is something like....." if you take a cut now, in 10/11 your salary will be renegotiated for your due raise when we have more cap room to play with".......or something to that effect....... I don't know, as I said before, I'm still learning, all your comments are greatly appreciated! My husband likes that I can ask you all instead of asking him every 5 minutes!
-
I'll take that source, but how did they get away without giving him a raise.....does the CBA have waivers for players to sign in case of a contract deal??? Does anyone have a website link for the CBA....I'd like to learn more about it! Thanks! And so is a legal roster 22 or 23??? I'm still learning the "technicalities" of the game...the "off the ice" portion of the NHL...so sorry if my questions are silly!

capgeek.com ROSTER SIZE 21 SALARY CAP $56,800,000 TOTALS $55,120,653 $ CAP SPACE $1,679,347 Leino on roster (but shaded, not in bold such as everyone else including Abby) but if $1.6 is cap space.....how is that enough for Huds & another??? and then that would make 23 b/c Abby is on there..... confused??? me too!
-
That's what my husband said, but you think he would be signed for $1.6 for 2yrs when Huds was only making $1.015..if that's the case I can totally understand why he would file for arbitration..... Still looking for confirmation....!

Wings will re-sign Leino to a 2-year deal
HudlerFanatic replied to Hey Hey Hockeytown!'s topic in General
Thanks for the apology...that was really what set me off.... Bickering back and forth is fine too....have to do something in the off season, but it just went a little far...... ......and to uk_redwing...if I'm making myself look silly-then so is this guy and everyone hollering for Bertuzzi to come back! I may be pulling for Hudler,(and am not trying to be bias towards him) actually.... if you remember a while back I posted a thread asking for everyone's professional hockey opinion on why NOT to keep him so I could get more insight on the situation, trying to better my "hockey knowledge"...so I think that makes me a little smarter than making myself look silly and throwing out stupid crap.....(mine & leftwingers arguments are stupid and silly and with the exception of one comment...they were fun...I always love a challenge!) and...I take "snapshots" with a grain of salt.....just like all the other articles that I can't find "back-up" resources for..... -
I was just wondeing the same question...$1.6 over 2 is $800,000...wasn't he making $850,000???? Wouldn't he have to get at least $1.8 (which still isn't bad) That doesn't add up and according to this article on MLive posted at 4:50am.....(long, so only posted a quote) http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2009/07/re...land_feels.html . ..."Ville Leino's agent and I are really close," Holland said about reaching a new deal. "I'm hoping to finish that off early in the week and go to work on Hudler." So according to this article, he's not signed yet........hmmm?!?!?!

Finally, some good news: Jiri Hudler officially files for arbitration with Red Wings Posted by George James Malik July 05, 2009 23:35PM Red Wings forward Jiri Hudler and the team are officially headed for arbitration, as noted by the Canadian Press: July 5, Canadian Press: New York Rangers winger Nikolai Zherdev and forward Jiri Hudler of the Detroit Red Wings are among 20 players who have elected salary arbitration, the NHL Players' Association announced Sunday night. ... Hudler had 57 point last season (23 goals, 34 assists) with four goals eight assists coming in the post-season, including three assists in Detroit's Stanley Cup final series with Pittsburgh. Hudler made $1.15 million last season. ... Arbitration hearings will be held in Toronto from July 20 to Aug. 4. As the Detroit News's Ted Kulfan notes, this prevents Hudler from receiving an offer sheet from another team. MLive.com's own Ansar Khan confirms as well. A player can only take his team to arbitration once, and vice versa, so the Wings will push for a deal with Hudler as he's done them a bit of a favor. If the teams can't come to an agreement, the arbitrator will award a one or two-year contract, with the Wings having the option to walk away from the award or work out a sign-and-trade option. In the event of a $3.5 million-plus offer, they'd pursue the latter as they can exceed the salary cap by up to 10% ($5.68 million) during the off-season. http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2009/07/fi...ws_jiri_hu.html So when is "off-season" officially over and if Holland opts for the "sign & trade" deal...doesn't that give him a bit more time then "rushing" into a roster.....???????

Oh Hudler.....instead of waiting for you to make a decision.... I hiked a mountain and went swimming in the lake that was on top of it with snow on the mountains behind it....then I had Subway and now am having Miller Lite...... This is making me exahusted, I wish I could have LGW on my phone so I could just get an update for when he makes a decision! Geesh........ That's all...sorry for the stupid post...but I wanted to write something that had nothing to do with anything....... .hope it makes someone laugh....if not...oh well........

Not that I have an answer to this thread......but after reading some of the Pens boards and they say we're classless??? Some on here might have stupid immature fights with each other and about our own Wings players(myself included has done this & I apologize for that)........but I've never seen a "goalie bashing thread"...if it weren't for goalies....what the the hell would we be playing?!?!?!?! Just ridiculous!

Out goes 'Sammy,' in comes 'Abby': Red Wings GM Ken Holland suggests that Justin Abdelkader will make team Posted by George James Malik July 03, 2009 23:26PM Somewhere along the way, either the Red Wings decided that they didn't quite have the salary cap space to re-sign one of their unrestricted free agent forwards, or Justin Abdelkader's playoff performance made a helluva impression on Detroit's braintrust. The Red Wings still plan on re-signing Ville Leino and Jiri Hudler, but Wings GM Ken Holland told MLive.com's own Ansar Khan that the subtractions of Marian Hossa, Tomas Kopecky, et. al. mean that Abdelkader has a solid shot of making the Wings' roster this season: This is just a piece of the article, it's pretty long..... You should also read the one titled: Putting a price on self-confidence: Samuelsson personified the 'when he wants to be' player Posted by George James Malik July 03, 2009 20:57PM just a snippet of the article.... "He is a right-handed shot which we love about him," Henning said. "He has a familiarity with the twins. Plus, he's great on the power play. He has a great shot. There are a lot of pluses we like. He's certainly going to be on the top two lines."

Red Wings must restore defensive dominance to overcome free agent losses Posted by George James Malik July 05, 2009 13:17PM http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2009/07/re...re_defensi.html Hudler's name is mentioned at all....just a part of the article....kinda long... July 5, The Oakland Press: "........The Red Wings still have a solid nucleus in Henrik Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk, Nicklas Lidstrom, Niklas Kronwall, Tomas Holmstrom, Chris Osgood, Dan Cleary, Brad Stuart and Brian Rafalski. However, the time is now for the likes of Jonathan Ericsson, Darren Helm, Valtteri Filppula, Justin Abdelkader, Ville Leino, Jimmy Howard and Jakub Kindl. No more holding the young ones' hands down in Grand Rapids........" thoughts on article......???

I don't remember seeing this post on LGW....from this person....but stated in here that you posted it....would like to hear more feed back on this if this is correct because I don't think Hudler would want to jepordize the Wing's team just for a bigger pay raise......Not on Hudler skills vs other players etc....there are plaenty of threads for that.... HFBoards : http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?p=20277921 Here is a problem with Huds going to arbitration...he wants more then 2.5M...say he ges 3million. There is a rule already mentioned in this thread that when a player goes to abritration, the team cannot trade him for one year if they end honoring the arbitration value, unless they decline to pay the arbitrated amount, and in this case he becomes a UFA. The link to the article posted earlier on in this thread, regarding Hudler being traded if they dont like what the Arbiter awards him, is wrong. I posted an article on letsgowings a couple weeks ago, showing with nhl rules (unless i read it wrong) that he cannot be traded for one year after the wings choose to sign him to the abritration amount. Now here is the problem I was getting at earlier in the post...If we have to pay him 3m and keep him on the roster for a year, it puts us well over the cap(1Million) for a 22man roster, and well cause we cant trade him, and we are over the cap we have to move someone else already on the roster and replace them with a cheaper player. Not good. Hudler is going to hurt the team by doing this. The only guys that can really provide the extra salary is if Homer retires or we trade flip or Kronwall or homer and replace with a cheap player. We can just fit Hudler in with a 2M salary with a 22 man roster, leaving us with 225K in cap space, with Lilja on the LTIR Meech taking the role as a 7th Dman, and Rittola taking a forward spot which I'm not sure hes ready. Crunching the numbers doesnt paint a pretty picture if Huds gets a big raise to 3M or above. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Last edited by Probie: Yesterday at 08:57 PM. Even if Hudler does not stay.....then that leaves 2 spots with Leino signing right.....can we get a skilled forward and a grit guy for that cap??? I get more lost about this topic every time I read something.....someone is going to be traded.....but WHO?! That is the only way I see them keeping point setters on the team instead of "grit-quick skaters".....

http://www.topix.com/nhl/detroit-red-wings 5 hrs ago | Detroit Free Press Hudler talks continue; Holland digging for potential free-agent gems As the Red Wings continue to negotiate with restricted free agent Jiri Hudler, management is combing the remnants of the unrestricted free-agent market in hopes of finding another gem. and from the original article this post was about..... http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2009/07/re...ing_for_th.html Aside from re-signing Ville Leino and Jiri Hudler, the Red Wings have one free agent task to accomplish. As the Free Press's Helene St. James notes, the Red Wings want to find a depth forward who can contribute grit, snarl, and hopefully a little offense: so don't get all excited yet to those that don't want Hudler, he's not counted out just yet........ "Don't count your chickens before they hatch...." I think we will all be surprised as to what happens....I am inbetween optimistic & pessimistic, I can't tell whether my cup is half full or half empty.....it's driving me nuts!
-
It makes sense (cap wise)...but who are you thinking of...I mean....honestly (IMO) I wouldn't trade anyone but possibly Meech and Lilja DEPENDING on his status..(and they are among the loswest paid)...the others, with those already lost, I think would just be TOO MUCH change for the Wings...as if there wasn't enough already....Kenny already said one would be traded possibly...but I don't think it will be one that will give us that much more in cap room...especially since he mentioned Meech's name in the same article.......
-
That's not leaving enough space cap for injuries.......trade deadline.....etc..........am I right???? At the endo of this year 08/09, wasn't there at least $1.1M cap space left........ I mean, if you took Downey out...Huds could get at least $2.7 w/ $54,347 left....but that's not realistic........
-
LOL..>thanks....I coulda sworn I put that in there! Sorry!
-
I have tried and tried, but it's not making since to me either..... If capgeek is correct, Abby is signed at $850,000 Leaving roughly $2.4Mil If Leino is signed for 2 yrs @ the 5% raise (I read in one of these darn threads) that is $920,000 Hudler would have to sign for $1.5Mil for the 09/10 So how did Holland even offer $2.5???? If you figure in the UFA's for next year...(not the RFA) there will be $12.4Mil to play with for 10/11 where Hudler could make a raise, but until then......????? So....either capgeek has Abby on the roster and he's NOT signed..or Holland still has something in the works.... Even if trying to give Huds a 2-4 year deal....with these numbers he could still only get $1.5 for 09/10 and then take a significant jump in pay the next three years.... Yes, I want him to stay, but I don't see how it can be done with the numbers at all..... Even with those numbers who are you going to sign for under $1.5 of the free agents out there? Now, if Abby is NOT already signed that is $3.2Mil to play with (rounding down) Leino @ $920,000 for still leaves LESS than $2.5 ...so again, how did Holland offer $2.5??? (and yes there is still about $70,000 or something to work with I think...but still if rounding....I don't see how $2.5 was even on the table...) Where are the accountants in here????? :!:
-
Even I'M getting a little tired of them! Have we ran out of things to talk about.....I'm completely worn out!!

Wings will re-sign Leino to a 2-year deal
HudlerFanatic replied to Hey Hey Hockeytown!'s topic in General
That's a lot of MAYBE's for someone that was so sure that Hudler would be leaving......for someone that thinks Leino is the next upcoming all mighty forward..... RUMOR is just that...a RUMOR...how do we know for sure that is was a $2.5 offer....???? How do we know FOR SURE that he turned down $2.5...he knows the cap....he knows there are at least 3 more that need signed and that Leino has to have somewhat of a raise.... Short contract and low cap is what I've been saying in almost every thread.....maybe he's going to negotiate the cap of a contract rather than just a "payday" for the 09/10 season. I understand that you don't like him and that's fine.....I do... among so many other of the Wings players and that's why I find it silly to wanting to bring in so many young players who "might" put up the points.....Hossa was "supposed" to produce in the playoffs....but he didn't...you can't "rely" on someones minor scores to what they "might" do in the NHL...we all hope that the great AHL'rs play as well as they do there, but nothing to say that it will happen for sure..... And if Abs is already on the roster (no articles confirming) ...why are we talking about anymore kids from GR coming up??? And it's pretty silly not to like a guy "just because"....I mean....usually there is a reason....I don't like Sammmy because he hits more outside shots than in the goal....but I don't dog him in EVERY SINGLE THREAD that comes up! You should get your own blog that's titled ..."101 Reasons to hate Hudler" and then send a link to LGW and if we weant to respond we can...other wise...this thread was once about Leino.....just like the one for Abs...and the one for Hossa...and the one for.......you get my point. -
Wings will re-sign Leino to a 2-year deal
HudlerFanatic replied to Hey Hey Hockeytown!'s topic in General
That's till one less than Huds already established stats (not predicted average)...and aren't you all about size & speed of a player instead of stats (that's why you don't like Hudler right?).......and not doing averages and such because it really doesn't mean that much anyway....I mean, look at the guys in the playoffs, if someone doesn't "showup" in games then how can you really use an "average" stats suggestion......Hudler already has those stats....Leino doesn't........and to add, so you are suggesting that Leino is worth $3 mil???? I mean, with the averages he MAY put up next season and to which line do you have him on and with whom is he going to "average" these stats with???
