    Niedermayer cheap shot and brawl

Hockey has changed over the past 10 years, some things better and some worse. Frankly, I hate elbows thrown in the game in any capacity. To me, it should be automatic. That sucked, and that's why I gave props to Datsyuk for stepping up after. But one thing about hockey that hasn't changed is that what the league doesn't take care of, the players do. Game seven sees a target on Scotty's back, and what's bad about that from a Wings perspective? Hell, every year in the playoffs, s***'s let go. But teams have to police that themselves. That hasn't changed in 10 years.

    Niedermayer cheap shot and brawl

Is this the first serious post-game scrum Detroit has been in? I'm real surprised by the reactions here. Maybe I've been watching too much Iginla in recent years, but...Hossa bumping Getz like he wants to start something, only to turtle when Getz comes after him...what did anyone expect? I didn't like Niedermayer's elbow whatsoever, but it didn't seem "intentional" any more than Holmstrom's on Wis earlier in the series. And I give massive props to Datsyuk for going with him afterward. Neither of them are fighters, but it was good for both teams that their main leaders stepped up. I have a hard time feeling bad for Raf though. Had it been any other game, he would have handed Perry his ass. But although nobody here will give any respect to Perry, he'll at least drop his gloves with anyone after one of his cheap shots. (Unlike an Ott or an Avery.) The way I see it, this makes game seven between these two teams way more awesome. But I'm pretty surprised people here are claiming it was all Anaheim goonery--I don't know, hockey 10 years ago was this after practically every game. It's just hockey.

You make a good point, and I think I would agree. He is definitely NOT a Wings-type player. (Arguably, Ericcson isn't either, but he's doing well enough.) Firstly, though, he's not European. Hah. My opinion is jaded though because my team hasn't won carp in ******* years. So yeah, I'd like to see anyone at this point who could help us win.

Chicago Columnist: Blackhawks should want no part of Wings

I read this article on the Orange County Register; it is another one that pays a lot of respect to the Wings organization. It is a well written article, considering it was published in the county of your "enemy." Good read though. http://www.ocregister.com/articles/pick-wi...terberg-through

Haha, alright, fair enough. Imagine Anaheim's excitement: they have him as their captain in the same year they are forced to accept Bertuzzi. Anaheim's management has really done nothing to improve their image. Hah. Still though, a big body like that on defense? I wouldn't mind seeing him in blue, that's for sure.

    Modano to return next season

Modano is a real class act. He was better when younger, but he's adjusted his play to stay relevant nonetheless. The Dallas organization is lucky to have him.

    Pronger's website

Neither you Wings fans or us Leafs fans would complain in the least if he were on our teams. Anaheim has him, however, and it's extremely easy to dislike Anaheim anyway. Chris Pronger's brother does a lot of hockey-related articles too, and I think his stuff is priceless. Pronger's site is pretty decent, regardless of opinions about the man.

    Ducks Fans...

If you're a real hockey fan, you usually don't need to fret much in Anaheim or Los Angeles. It's the Southern California bandwagon fans you have to watch out for, and in Anaheim they are more prevalent because the Ducks have won recently, the Kings have not. But most Southern Californians hate it when the Wings (or conversely, Yanks or Sox or Bulls, in other leagues) come into town, because a lot of the Wings fans attending those games aren't real Wings fans either. Just a lot of bandwagon folks who give everyone a bad name. (For that matter, from my understanding, most Anaheim fans hate Detroit as a team simply because of those types of fans in their area.) I don't know, I've seen games all over, wearing visiting sweaters usually, and I've had great times connecting with other hockey fans across the league. I just avoid any overtly beer swilling bandwagoner who doesn't know offside from icing.

    Colorado or Anaheim?

The Detroit-Colorado rivalry has no peer in recent years. I doubt I would say it was the best rivalry in all of hockey's long history, but goddamn was it a doozy. I don't think Detroit-Anaheim has that level yet. It has the makings of it, sure--even the controversy that tends to really amp up these things. But maybe it takes a couple more years, another big playoff meet up, before either camp can really claim it is "the" current rivalry in the NHL. But I will say this for the plucky Anaheim team of apparently "talentless goons and thugs": they make Detroit work much harder than almost any team in the NHL. This matchup is simply fun to watch as a hockey fan, even though most of us hate both of these teams! It is too bad Ovechkin and Crosby met up in this round, because the storylines in this series right here are better: the two last Cup winning teams facing off. It isn't about individuals here, but two teams battling. Perhaps if these two meet again, the rivalry can intensify. Still...it would take quite a bit to put them up in the Detroit-Colorado sphere.

    5/7 Playoff GDT

Chicago's power play isn't clicking. Well, and there's Luongo. They gotta score first for once, jeez.

Kenny on The Hour with Bettman

It was the worst call of the year, hands down. I admit, I'm rooting for Anaheim to pull an upset mostly because I dig some of their players, but that call was flat wrong. Game should have gone to overtime, and it would have been a better game anyway. Wings had control toward the end...thought it was great hockey up until that point. So did anyone catch any of this interview? I haven't checked it out...wouldn't stream for me when I went to listen live. I'd love to hear the gist of it. (Sorry if someone already mentioned it and I missed it.)

But everyone here can agree that the hockey is great and the series intensity is fantastic. ...wish it were with my team, damnit.

    Hi James Wisniewski...

My favorite Pronger video is the one where his Anaheim teammate Selanne boards him in the Olympics. You guys should check it, it's rad.

    Hi James Wisniewski...

Nah, you're right. My apologies to Detroit natives. Plus the Joe is still a fun place to catch a game. Anyway, games are coming on, so hopefully I'll catch you folks around.

    Hi James Wisniewski...

No, actually, I didn't say s*** about Holmstrom's elbow being a questionable hit. He hit someone with an elbow -- pretty clear cut. He also had NOTHING to do with Wisniewski's injury -- pretty clear there as well. I commented on one fan's desire to see more "questionable hits," I just think that's a s***ty attitude. It's like, hey, we have a disagreement, so I hope you get in a car wreck and die. That's kind of a s***ty attitude too. It's a message board about hockey -- we're here to chat about it. You aren't gonna agree with me, and I'm still gonna think you can't read. We'll get over it.

    Hi James Wisniewski...

I swear to fuggin Christ, how many people in Detroit can READ? I said nothing about the elbow hurting him. I said that particular poster's ATTITUDE about WANTING more "questionable hits" is pretty s***ty. It's a sport, but the dudes that play it are rad. That some fans wish injury upon them is far more douchbaggery than your lack of comprehension skills.
  17. kidish

    Hi James Wisniewski...

Wow. At least Anaheim fans are just clueless and have no idea their team is dirty. You don't mind players getting hurt. That sucks.

    Hi James Wisniewski...

I think you make the best point I've read so far. The main thing some of my mates and I noted was that the resulting play should have been four-on-four though, not a Detroit power-play. Like that was the worst call of the night though. (The other one...a friggin' joke.)

    Hi James Wisniewski...

Brings them out in Anaheim too... ...wait, that's all of them, perhaps? Heh.

    Hi James Wisniewski...

His Mom is gutless!!!! esteef This is my favorite post of the day. Haha. Wisniewski with the lame-duck (hey, like the pun?) comment. Holmstrom with the awkward explanation of cheap-shoting an injured guy. It's gravy. Of course Holmstrom didn't intend to elbow an injured dude! But throw an elbow in general? Oh yes.

I'm not really here talking "big s***." But hey, whatever gets you riled up. This place is more alive than any Toronto boards, and for good reason! (There's your invitation to slam my own beloved team.) I really didn't see the thing with Chelios, so...yeah, that makes me some kind of coward or some s***. And IN THE CHOPS? Oh lawd. Dude, if Franzen can't take a gloved-love tap to the SIDE OF THE HELMET, he needs to figure skate already. Take the red glasses off, mate, the blue-tinted ones are much better.

    Hi James Wisniewski...

Scotty looks pretty fierce there, huh? (I so wish he wasn't a Duck.) Still...in this pose his hook doesn't seem to have much leverage.
  23. kidish

    Hi James Wisniewski...

I don't think it was intentional per se either, just that, hey, he DID throw one. It's cool.

I only saw a Youtube of the Franzen one, not the Chelios one. No video from me, sorry to say. Maybe hit up some Anaheim faithful for that stuff.

    Hi James Wisniewski...

I play a bit of ice hockey, so of course I know what you mean. This is NOT throwing your arms out for balance though. That's an elbow to someone's face.
