Come on Detroit, you fans are usually far less blind than Anaheim. A human being got hit with a speeding puck at the chest, between the padding. Then he got elbowed -- hey, it had to hurt. Now HERE's where some manning-up was called for.
-
Wait, wait, I call bullocks on this one. Holmstrom CLEARLY threw his elbow out. Yeah, he was off-balance by Niedermayer hooking him. But he also threw an elbow pretty clearly too. I'd more venture to say he didn't intend to elbow an injured man in the face. Of course not, that'd be terrible. But he just "happened" to throw an elbow at someone's face...purely coincidentally? Bah, right. Homer threw an elbow, but I don't think he intended it for Wisniewski's face. (Too many vowels in these Ducks names.)
-
He also followed it up with a backhanded insult to the media and Pronger, so I think it was more than a bit of blowing off some steam than anything else. I don't know, I'm not as emotionally invested in this series as you all of course, but I took it as him making it clear that Anaheim caught the elbow upon replay. Should make it interesting tonight. And he was right too: had it been Pronger giving an unintentional elbow, everyone here and everywhere (including me) would have said it was the dirtiest play on the ice that night.

Cheilos, Franzen (someone from Anaheim I'm sure posted on Youtube the video of Getz telling him to get up and be a man), Hossa. I'm not saying it's outlandish, but considering Detroit has some of the best skaters in the league, a lot of us out here in hockeyland are wondering why they are suddenly so easy to take off the puck.

Here's where your reasoning falls short: if Detroit starts it, Anaheim will finish it. Because Anaheim did earn their dirty reputation by, you know, actually playing that way. Seeing as how both of these teams could lose (if possible) in this series and it'd be fine by me, I'll simply point out that Anaheim really hasn't been getting away with all that much more than Detroit (who has redefined the definition of embellishment and diving since game one). Although seeing these two teams kill each other might be fun. And then Anaheim starting Parros in the next game...probably be even more fun.

Pad color should definitely be managed by the league for this exact reason. I doubt it will make officials less fallible, but it still evens the playing field.

Original Six teams should break away from NHL and for own league

I like it. -
You folks are probably right, I'm definitely no doctor...and am a Leafs fan to boot. Makes me far less qualified. I don't have an opinion on the intent of the elbow, but it was harsh watching the replay of this clearly injured player (refs not stopping that play) getting nailed by Holmstrom. From watching my riddled team play, I can tell you, accidental or not, we'd have been whistled on that one. Instead, Detroit got a PP and scored. It was a weird game like that.

Lung contusion, difficulty breathing=caused by puck. Coughing up blood=elbow to face/nose. (There was no blood prior to him receiving an elbow.) I know Homer's a well liked guy and all, but he still elbowed an injured player in the face.
-
Wisniewski was bloodied by Holmstrom's elbow, not the lung contusion. Nonetheless, Wisniewski was kept overnight at the hospital. Supposedly, it was just precautionary, as he was otherwise fine.

I think I agree with you there. I expected a suspension...but perhaps "hoped" was a better word. The league shouldn't let guys in the crease get mauled like that.

His comments were pretty whiny. He's jealous he only got one hat thrown for his efforts. A hat-trick performance in a game Ovie played like that...so totally getting a ton of hats thrown. Has Crosby forgot about the whole "doing it for the fans" deal?

Yes, because pissing off an Anaheim team with two players that have more fighting majors than Detroit is a good idea. Plus, it just gives Perry justification for doing it back to Osgood. Except Perry has more experience doing it.
