I love it. Forward this to Mr. Holland Maybe he can send Datsyuk to the Olympics on a mission to convince Kovalchuk Detroit is the place to be.

Am I seeing something wrong here? Please correct me... We have roughly 41 Million already invested in contracts for next season with Lidstrom, Holmstrom, Bertuzzi, Williams, Maltby, May, Lilja, and Lebda all UFA's. And Abdelkader, Helm, Eaves, Miller, Meech and Larsson RFA's. Given the current cap is $56.8 million - that gives us $15.8 million for 14 players. For the sake of guessing we retain UFA's: Lidstrom 4.5 Holmstrom 1 May .5 9.8 Million remaining and RFA's: Abdelkader 1 Helm 1.5 Eaves 1 Larsson 1 5.3 Million remaining with a roster of Franzen - Datsyuk - Holmstrom Clearly - Zetterberg - Fillpula Helm - Eaves - Abdelkader May - Draper - Lidstrom - Rafalski Stuart - Kronwall Ericsson - Osgood Howard Larsson So we would have 5.3 to fill a 12th, and 13th FWD position and a 6th and 7th D position? How does it work when you call up minor league contracts? Does it count against the NHL Cap or what? How glorious would it be if Lids took a ridiculous pay cut and played for 2 million or something. What do you think the odds are that we see something like in 2002 when the guys diverted salary to bring in Hull, Luc, and Hasek? Would Lids do something like that if the Wings presented him with some kind of offer like 'we can bring in Kovalchuk if you play for 1.5 this year'?

Realistically, how much will Lidstrom re-sign for?

This could be true...I was partly kidding anyways, but that rule would make a whole lots of sense.
  7. Yzerfan1999

Realistically, how much will Lidstrom re-sign for?

I strongly disagree. Lids is a smart guy, and if he wants to play and WIN for the last year or two of his career, he will re-sign somewhere in the 3.5-4.5 million dollar range, enabling the Wings to have some offseason cash to make themselves a contender again. Also, look at it from Hollands perspective. Why would he want to re-sign him to a contract thats going to handcuff him for two years. Lidstrom is a great great player, but the truth is he is slowing down. He is going to do whats right in order to be a champion in his last couple of years and he will take a pay cut. Either that or sign him to a 2 year deal, first year at 7 mill, second at 1, and then have him retire

Clearly boarding. Game misconduct deserved, but no more.

    Random expansion idea

I think its a really cool idea, and well though out - but 36 teams is a lot. And 86 games is pretty long. Aren't they talking about shortening the season right now anyways?

FLyers' Briere suspended for 2 games

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=299730 Here is a link to the highlights, the 'incident' happens at about the 3:25 mark of this video...i think. I am usually all for tough suspensions - but this? It looked pretty weak. I would have given Briere a roughing or charging penalty, but 2 games? I just don't see how bad it it there. Does someone have a better video? What do you guys think? Edit - after watching several times, it does indeed look like Briere's elbow comes up. Still, I've seen much worse go un-penalized. Like this: So why does Briere get two games for that, and Cumisky gets nothing for leaving his feet and elbowing Moreau?
  12. Yzerfan1999

    Hossa's Back

yeah try wasn't the right word. Produce is what i was looking for. Datsyuk and Hossa both tried, and failed to produce. But i guess that happens to everyone, just tough to swallow when your making 7+ million.
  13. Yzerfan1999

    Hossa's Back

Lol, i know - i don't really care that much. I liked the 2008 Wings better then the 2009 Wings anyways. Hossa's a great addition to any team. Just a little bitter he didn't produce as much as we all would have liked last spring. But thats water under the bridge.
  14. Yzerfan1999

    Hossa's Back

screw him. He had his chance last year, way to try.
  15. Yzerfan1999

FLyers' Briere suspended for 2 games

I'll give you the Briere hit warranting a suspension, but take another look at the Cumisky hit, his feet are off the ice when he makes contact with Moreau, and he clearly leans out with his arm/elbow to make contact just as Moreau tried to cut inside.

    Are the Wings "back?"

4 lousy games in a row. The Wings are not back - but they are not done either.

Could the injuries cause Detroit to miss the playoffs?

At this point it has to be a possibility. Before the injuries, the Wings were already in tough against San Jose, Chicago, Calgary, and arguably the Canucks. After losing Franzen, Fillpula, Williams, and now Kronwall for extended periods of time, there are at least 7 teams with better top 6 forwards then Detroit. With the Wings essentially missing 3 of their top 6 forwards, and Kronwall who IMO has been #2 to Lids this season, they are in real tough in the Western Conf. Just look at these last three games - few scoring chances, and no one can bury anything. I am by no means jumping off the bandwagon, I would never do that - but this team is completely decimated, and Holland doesn't seem to be able to do anything to fix it. We will see where they are after Christmas when they start getting some guys back. All Bertuzzi and Holmstrom have shown me is that they are completely unsuited to be on the top line with Dats. Its actually painful to watch. One guy who seems lost when the puck is one his stick, and another who can't even keep the puck on his stick, let alone skate well enough to keep up to the play (and thats when he's not on his ass). These last four games have been very disheartening.

Wings Claim Drew Miller on Waivers from Tampa

I don't know if this has already been addressed, nor does it really matter. I just want to make sure my eyes aren't failing me, but does Miller already have grey hair? I always see him during the anthems and he looks like a 45 year old, yet I think he's only 25.

    This is Great.

As much as I like the Wings retaliation in that clip - this should be posted in a Stars forum. They completely got Yzerman off his game, and proceeded to kick the Wings ass that night. Good for Stevie for dropping them though.

CBJ Dorsett gets knocked out tonight

Lol acting? no way. I'll admit it looks strange, but that guy is effed up. The gash high on his cheekbone indicates his face made hard contact with the glass.

Babcock not happy with top line

I agree the top line has been bad - the Zetterberg - Cleary - Leino line has been the Wings best. I disagree however, that its Bertuzzi's fault. While him and Dats clearly are not clicking, he has shown some nice ability to control the puck and get chances, he just cant bury them right now. As happy as I am that Holmstrom has 9 goals, he is really a liability to have on your line. Unless the play is already set up in the opposing zone, Holmstrom seems almost useless. He can't handle the puck, can't skate, and can't pass well enough to be on the top line. I really like his work on the PP of course, and he works hard in front, but really, he is useless on the breakout. Zetterberg AND Datsyuk/Franzen/Hossa had enough skill to compensate for that when paired with him, but Bertuzzi just isn't and good as any of those guys. I don't have a solution for this really...except maybe switch up Leino and Holmstrom. Maybe Zetterberg and Cleary's style will work better with Holmstrom...I just don't know.

    team usa olympic team

Its a young team, but its a good looking team. Better then I ever thought the US would be able to throw together. 2014 this team will be scary good, but as of right now I think Canada and Russia have the edge.

    Officials...Conspiracy or Incompetence?

Strange thing is that whistle came well after the puck had nestled itself into the corner, and before that it was clear from ANY point on the ice that it was a loose puck. There was no goalmouth scramble or pileup. What took him so long to blow the whistle if he was intending to blow it for some other reason? No sense whatsoever.
  25. Yzerfan1999

    Officials...Conspiracy or Incompetence?

Pure Incompetence. Its actually worrisome that Toronto could call and actually allow this to happen. LaRue's excuse about intending to blow the whistle is shocking, and quite honestly, the guy is a f*cking liar if that's his excuse. The puck went almost directly in - it wasn't even a question of whether he could have possibly covered it in time to get a whistle, because the puck WAS IN THE NET. The only way his excuse stands up is if for some reason he was blowing the play dead while May was shooting, which doesn't make sense either. If Toronto makes the call, it should be THEIR CALL. Oh, and check out what Auld had to say: "They've got enough cameras in the building. If they say it's not a goal, it's not a goal," he said. "I think the biggest thing was the intent of the official to blow the whistle." Disgraceful. I'm not asking him to waive up his hands and admit it was a goal during the game, because he is there to win. But after the game, can't you be man enough, or at least smart enough to admit you got lucky? Its not even a question, the puck was in the net. The only good thing to come from this is that you can bet the NHL is aware of the call, and this retard wont get a playoff game this year. What a complete ******* moron.
