If Holland gets the chance, he should pick this guy up. $750 000 cap hit, we are down a couple of forwards right now, and at the VERY least he will help us in the shootouts...god knows we need it. RFA next year btw. Anyone remember when he was with Pittsburgh? He has great hands, and I remember watching him and thinking he was going to be lights out...then he was shipped off the Atlanta in the Hossa deal and hasn't been the same since. I know everyone talks about how Dan Cleary rejuvenated his career here, and Eaves is the Wings next project, but I could really see something like that happening to this kid. Then again, I bet he gets picked up earlier in waivers. Just a thought!.

Is there no official page that displays people on waivers? I cant find anything other then McKenzie's twitter.

Naw I didn't suggest this as a replacement for Leino, more of a fill in for Franzen and Fillpula in the bottom of the lineup.

And As for the OP, this is a pathetic attempt at a jab towards Crosby and the league - the refs were protecting ZIDLICKY because he was defenseless after Crosby got the jersey over his face - Zidlicky had no idea what he was doing anymore, evident by his wild punches at the back of the linesman. Look, I am no Crosby lover - but lets get serious, he kicked Zidlickys ass, and it would have been worse if the refs didnt step in.
-
That one has been the most impressive of Crosby's 'fights'. It was textbook! Fed him some shots, jerseyed him, fed him so more shots. The refs should have let them go a while longer, it looked like a good one!

I loved the Wings game tonight. This is how this edition of the Wings has to play. As for May, I really hope he is alright, that was a nasty accident. Was it Williams stick? It looked like May was in shock a bit at first, and as he was getting helped by the trainer, realized that he was in trouble and kind of freaked out a bit. It looked like he really scrambled to get off the bench. Poor guy - all the best to him. P.S. Eaves play in the last two games = A+

Yeah, I think Finland will be a decent team, they are pretty deep - but really every one of their lines is an NHL 2nd or 3rd line. They don't really have a 'franchise' player, like many other countries have.

I was at Rexall last night for the game. I wanted to go home part way through the second (i never would have because my seats were amazing), but then it turned into an amazing game. Bitter taste that they didn't steal both points, but we've gotta be happy with one after that BRUTAL start. The third period was an indication of what the Wings should be doing for 60 mins everygame - it proved to me that they still have the talent to win a lot of games this season. I completely missed the Flip hit - and that injury sucks big time. How much more can they take? P.S. I had high hopes for Leino this season, but last night he was just awful. NO physicality in his game whatsoever.

Super excited cause I am going to the game tonight! The Wings better put up the W!

After the Sox were out, I was going for the Dodgers...then the Angels...now the Phillies. I hate the Yankees for all the obvious reasons.

To me, that wordmark looks like its off a Baseball jersey. I like the colours though...

Elliot Freidman reporting that Doug Weight had it too.

Thats not SO bad...out a couple weeks?

You think Miller/Anderson is better than any combination of Luongo/Brodeur/Ward? Even the Lundqvist/Gustavsson combo doesn't stand up against Canada's goaltending. The monster is completely unproven at the NHL level.

If the Wings have a mediocre season, stumble into the playoffs, and go out early, do you guys think its going to be harder to lure guys to Detroit? Lets not kid ourselves, the Joe is old, Detroit as a city is not doing well, and it doesn't look like guys are going to be taking paycuts to come here anymore, especially if they buy into this theory that the Wings are on the downturn. What do you guys think? Is this going to be an issue if the Wings really do have a bad season? They still have a great history of winning, great management and staff - but is that going to be enough?
-
This is actually the best point made thus far, IMO. Whenever the Wings look like they are on the way down, they have pulled something else out of the bag. While I don't think we have another Datsyuk or Zetterberg in the system right now, those two guys are still young and can be well complemented.

I am responding to media chatter - most notably the Off the Record episode last week where all the guests claimed the Wings were past their prime. Nowhere in the thread did I say I had given up on the season. Regardless of where the Wings are right now in the standings, its obvious this is a weaker team than they have had in a long time. Considering that, I posed a question. You can respond to it, or you can move on to the next thread. It was a concern that I wondered if anyone of you have shared. Trust me - I have been around long enough in these forums to not give into the doom and gloom at the first sight of trouble mentality.
-
Understandable, but my worry is that in the past (Hossa is a good example actually) guys would play in Detroit for 6.5 rather then 7 somewhere else, because they had a shot at the cup. Wouldn't a player rather take similar pay somewhere else if he had a chance to win? I just fear that players around the league might start seeing Detroit as a team on the downturn, and avoid signing with the Wings. Edit - and i am not talking about B- free agents like Bertuzzi and Williams, I am talking about big game players who can really impact a teams chances of winning. The Kovalchucks, Prongers, and Luongos of the league.

haha I like that - i think its terrifying. Here is one I just dont like - Ryan Millers. I know its supposed to be a buffalo, and I see the eyes, and i guess the snout, but the rest of it? I just dont know whats going on there. I am sure he paid a lot of cash for that mask, but to me a buffalo doesnt translate well on a goalie mask. P.S. That IS supposed to be a buffalo..right? The more I look at it, the more I am wondering if I am even looking at the right thing.

Shoulder to head = headshot. Is it illegal? No. Is it a dick move, and SHOULD it be illegal? Yes. Richards went in late, and put his shoulder to his head, full out. It was a dumbass hit by Richards. Had it been shoulder on shoulder it would be a different story, but this just turned out ugly. I am surprised there was no suspension - in my opinion, it was worse then the Brown on Hudler hit from last years playoffs. Not to mention it was a late hit. To all those saying it was a good hockey hit? You outta be on the receiving end of one of those.
-
Toews? Where do you guys get the idea that Toews would act like that? Are you mistaking him with Kane? Toews is a good kid, he's professional, and I have never heard one bad thing about his relationship with the media.

Right now this team looks tired and bored. They know the effort it takes, because the core of them have gone all the way for the last two seasons. I think they have a serious hangover right now, and dealing with the loss of talent through free agency and injuries is adding to that. They are playing terrible hockey right now, but I am convinced they will smarten up sooner or later. I have a feeling this tough stretch ( and i say stretch because I think this will last till mid - november ) will give this team a chip on their shoulder. My prediction: Wings play just over .500 hockey till around Christmas and pick it up big time down second half, leading up to and after the Olympics. 48-25-9 105pts. 2nd or 4th in the Conference

I actually remember hearing this shortly after it happened too. The article back then claimed the team didn't really appreciate Hasek coming back and putting CuJo in a bad spot. Who knows if its true, but like I said, I remember this being reported shortly after it happened. Anyways, the whole CuJo thing is the only black eye on the Wings org. in the past 20 year IMO. He was brought in with high hopes, and he never played GREAT, but he did play well enough to win. People blamed the 4 game sweep to Anaheim on him, as well as the 2nd round loss to the Flamers in '05. I always felt he didn't get a fair shot with Hasek coming back and stirring things up.

Not concerned about this guy at all. He will be fine.

This makes the most sense to me.
