I wrote George Laraque when he played here in Edmonton. I asked him the significance of #27. He emailed me back asking for my address so he could send an autographed picture and sure enough, in 2 weeks I got it. It said my name and he wrote "Best Wishes", just like Yzerman wrote. I thought it was pretty nice of him, Laraque was great with the fans the community here in Edmonton. It was a shame to see him go.

I have seen nothing in this thread that I think the Wings management will take seriously. They might use a retro for the Winter Classic, but I think Mike Illitch would die before he let anyone put black in a Wings jersey or altered it in any way. I thank god for that.

P.S. Nothing on the Canuck boards yet either.

They are supposed to wear retro-jerseys at the Winter Classic. I say no both ways. Third jerseys are ALWAYS tacky unless they are some kind of real retro-jersey. If the Wings are going to get one, it should be in the style of the Leafs and Canadiens, whose thirds are both pretty nice. P.S. I am not sure I understand the significance of the horse...??

Per TSN I think its a good move. This kid is a stud - he's going to be a great player for a long long time, and I see him as being more fit to lead than Kane. Mods please correct my spelling of Jonathan. Sorry guys.

Seems like everyone has tattoos nowadays, I almost feel more original not having one. I would wait. I know its exciting to be 'of age', but I would seriously wait - that s***s permanent. I know everyone says the same thing, but they say it for a reason...think of when you are old. I don't know how many old guys I see walking down the street with dumbass tats on their forearms and they just look like clowns. If you go through with it, make sure it can be easily covered.

A black Wings jersey would be a travesty. It just doesn't look good. Its got a mid-90s tacky feel to it.

The bottom line is that is doesn't matter how he left the Wings, he has still played fewer season with Detroit in the past 15 years then Yzerman, and even during the years he did play with Yzerman - they were 1a and 1b forwards. The fact that Yzerman was around and contributing to the team for 2 more seasons places him above Feds IMO. Plus a little something called devotion helps his cause.

No player plays his best hockey every night - you're right, but its hard to argue that guys like Yzerman didn't put their best effort out there every game - sure, you can be off from time to time, but I don't think its too much to ask a player making millions to give 100% every night. Yzerman is a better Wing in the last 15 years because A) he played more seasons with them and was more devoted to the team, and B) He didn't have to be told when to step it up. There is no doubt that Yzerman is a better all-time hockey player then Sergei Fedorov, so why is there even an argument that Feds was a better Wing? There is a difference between having the potential to be the best player on the ice, and actually going out every night, no matter the night, and busting your ass to the best of your ability. edit: sp

Thats exactly what I am talking about, he had the skill and ability to be the #1 player on the Wings every night, and he just wasn't. Yzerman was the plow-horse, doing it every night leaving it all on the line. Thats why he is more valuable to this team over the last 15 seasons then Fedorov.

Just imagine the Dallas Stars jersey with SENS written across it instead. Black with gold and red trim. Sounds awful. They should get Jersey's like the Ottawa 67s and just have red white and black stripes with the 'O' in the middle.
