Huet is not a huge improvement, IMO. We will have to wait and see how he pans out. There defense will be improved and they have a couple really good young d men maturing in Seabrook, Barker, and Duncan Keith. With Toews and Kane up front, they will be pretty good in a couple of years. I wonder tough, who they will buy out or trade to get back under the cap. As of right now, they are 2 million bucks over. Trading Brent Sopel as 2.5 a year would remedy that.

I don't think people are arguing Flip is better then Hossa, rather the concern is that we lose Flip to a huge offer sheet, and Hossa doesn't resign with us next summer. If we win the cup again next year, it would be worth it - but if we lose and Hossa goes elsewhere after one year, it will kind of suck to have lost Flip. I am confident Holland gets him done up next. 3 years at 2.75 or something similar to the last Zetterberg contract.
-
I like what Holland has done thus far. I wouldn't want him to play with the roster anymore though. Adding Hossa is always a huge postive, and I think its important to keep the majority of this winning team together now. All that I want now is a long-term extension for Zetterberg, and Flip to sign on. Then I hope Holland puts away the check book until August, when he re-signs D-Mac or Downey to a small deal.
-
Ohh okay, so if we extend Zetter, the contract has no implications on the cap until next season? And I suppose we have room for Flip under the cap still. I don't see him making more then 3. That makes this a whole lot clearer, now I can enjoy this signing with all the test of youse. Thanks.

Does this mean no Zetterberg extension till next summer? That would scare me a little...

TSN IS REPORTING HOSSA TO DETROIT FOR ONE YEAR AT 7.4 MILLION...strange...
-
QFT. I just can't see Huselius fitting in here. He takes nights off, which is completely unacceptable. Keenan hated his work ethic, and I don't think Iron Mike was being harsh.
-
Just saw this and I don't mind it at all. He did well with Pittsburgh and he will compete for the backup spot. At least this takes Ray Emery out of the picture.
-
Agreed, especially with the maturity of Sam Gagner and Andrew Cogliano. The Oilers will be significantley better then last year. Not a cup threat yet, but I bet they make the playoffs.
-
Hate Erik Cole, but he is a good player and Edmonton needed a top 6 fwd. Cole just wears his socks too low, IMO.
-
You're kidding right? Raffi Torres is a waste of cap space and a roster spot. Sure, he lays a big head hunting hit from time to time, but he actually rarely fights or stands up for his teamates, and he is lazy. Not to mention he was a notorious coke head here in Edmonton along with Jared Stoll. Whatever he had in 2005 when he scored 27 goals...he doesn't have it anymore.
-
jeez.... Tampa is crazy. They just set the bar really high for other UFAs...thinks are going to get ridiculous again.
-
QFT And I am starting to think we need to combine all the "Lets sign this piece of s*** former Leaf" threads under one heading.
-
I wouldn't take either of them.

May I direct everyone to his career stats; Kyle Wellwood He is very average offensive numbers, 63 points in 107 games in his last two seasons, but please look at his PIM. Zero. ZERO penalty minutes in his last two years in the NHL, and 14 PIMS total in his career which has only been 189 games because of constant injury problems due to him being constantly out of shape. All you people who want to Wings to get tougher should be up in arms over this suggestion.

Yuck...Not a fan of those kicks.

We all know the big names on the market which are available this year - but seeing as the Wings just won the cup and probably wont want to shake things up much, what guys do you think could benefit the team for cheap? TSN UFA LIST I have always been a fan of Martin Gelinas for some reason, and same goes for Micheal Peca - but I am not sure how much good they would be for the Red Wings. I watched Curtis Glencross here in Edmonton for the last half of the season and he really impressed me. Big, tough, and I think he could be a decent power forward - maybe a Dan Cleary like project for the Wings and he would be cheap. What guys do you like?

A couple of pics from my and my gf's trip to England earlier this month. Cornwall Trying to pry some sea creature out of its hole The Roman baths in...Bath, England. Pretty place, btw. This location needs no explanation. I have some neat ones from London I will post later. Don't want to overload this thread anymore then I already have.....oops

Very belated because of was out of the country for the last two weeks - but thanks so much Matt. LGW and the forums here are a huge part of my daily routine, and I love posting here thanks to your endless work and devotion to the site.

Yeah, didn't even think of them - but its safe to say that team would have been a lot different if McGuire had done it after the playoffs.
-
First off, I am pretty sure this was done BEFORE the playoffs started, as I saw them reveal it live almost two months ago on TSN. Secondly, guys like Valiquette are on the team because its supposed to be realistic - he is McGuire's favourite backup goalie. Also, for those calling for more Wings on it, read the text above the team; "They are hard charging. They are abrasive. They are fearless. They are equal parts perspiration and inspiration. They are the consummate team player." Sure, Zetterberg could have been on it and probably should have been - but Lidstrom didn't record a hit in the playoffs till the 3rd round. The team is about toughness and grit - thats what his monsters are. He isn't claiming they are all the best players in the league nor is that his purpose in creating the team. Its just his idea of a good, tough, gritty, yet somewhat semi-plausible lineup - hence the third and fourth lines and the backup goalie. Its an All-MONSTER team - not the All-STAR team.

This is fricking HILARIOUS. I love the rant at the end.... AHAHAHAHAH

Oh I agree completely - I hate Owen Nolan with a burning passion, I was just using him as an example. Your post makes a lot of sense, and I think you are right - there is no need for a big signing, or any signing this off season really - But it will be interesting to see if Holland takes on some depth.

Awesome, Red Wings and Red Sox - great choices dude. And holy crap, your girlfriend has one hell of a tan.
