The Wings D is so soft! Every opposing team forechecks the s*** out of them cause as long as you put a bit of a hit on one of them, they cough the puck up. Yikes.
-
Lol hire Edmonton's coach for special teams and expect them to do well? Hahahah. Tom Renney brought his culture of losing to Detroit. This is really sad to watch. At this rate, the Wings should let Fil walk next year. I'd rather have Hudler at this point.
-
You're right. I am overreacting, but I just don't get people who think they can act like morons in public. I should lighten up - he's the fat idiot who killed whatever coaching career he was working towards.
-
So what - because its not the NHL, he can act like a f***in idiot? He is representing his team in public and he looks like a moron. I wonder if anyone else would ever hire this idiot.
-
Yeah I think it was a response to people getting pissed at his last celebration, as he skated away from his teammates. Lol - If every player got punched everytime he told someone to F off, the refs would be pretty busy. Something must have been up with Morris - maybe it was building all game, or maybe Whitney said something really bad. Who cares though, Morris comes off looking like a psychopath
-
What a complete ignoramus. Hope he gets fined huge. His team must be embarrassed. By the way, why the hell was he wearing a tux?

Your response didn't address or refute anything i said in my post. Tying the game with 5 seconds left is not considered a key goal? And no, Datsyuk as an individual doesn't bore me, I said if everyone in the league acted like that, it would be boring. The NHL needs guys like Ovechkin, Selanne, and Yak. Variety is good, and people are getting poopy about this for no legit. reason. As for Don Cherry's response to the goal. Its Don Cherry for gods sake. Here is Theo Fleury's tweet after he heard what Grapes said. Theo Fleury @TheoFleury14 I do remember Don shaking my hand after scoring that goal in Edm and him congratulating me. Did an interview with Ron right after the goal.

Loved it. The 18 yo kid is playing in a market that is starved for excitement, he scored a big goal vs. the Stanley Cup champs after the refs f*cked them all game. Nothing wrong with it at all. The fans went NUTS when they saw it. It was raw emotion, it wasn't a preconceived dolphin dive or a toss of the glove in the air while shooting it ala Selanne. If everyone acted like Datsyuk (he is 35 btw) after scoring a goal, this would be the most boring league in the world. Silly comparison.

Yzerman put together that Olympic gold medal team in 2010, remember? It was a joke, but you are right - Nill will take over before Yzerman. Ah that crap is overrated. Cleary had a bad attitude as well. He turned out ok once he got to the Wings. I think most would agree, a little time in Detroit tends to fix these attitude problems.
-
I agree - Subban would be a huge boost for the Wings. It would show the rest of the league the Wings aren't going to roll over, and if MTL isn't willing to give him a longer-term contract, why not try it? I swear Holland just doesn't want to piss anyone off because he thinks if he plays nice, people will do him favors down the road. At this point, what has he got to lose? Enough long-term cap room to make it work... Either that or everyones dream comes true this year - the Wings tank, Holland gets fired and the great Yzerman returns to lead to team once again!!!!

The depressing thing is that after the snub from Suter and Parise this summer, I have lost faith in Detroit's ability to lure UFA's. The Wings have gotten progressively worse each season since 2009. If the Wings don't take a step forward this season (looks bad right now), i'd like to see Illitch announce a new arena project and to throw the bank at a big name this coming summer. At least get some of the young guys up and playing - give people something to look forward to. Next season they've got nearly 20 million to play with and some interesting UFA's to throw money at. They have Brunner, Flip, and Howard to resign. . As for this season, the Wings are handcuffed. The rest of the league knows they are desperate for a D-man ( i cant believe Colaiacavo makes 2.5 million for the next 2 years, ugh), and the Wings have nothing to offer in return. I still think the Wings can turn out a respectable season and make the playoffs, but they are going to have to do it with the roster they already have.

I would love to see more of Nyquist, Tatar, or even Sheahan. How do they compare to Mursak?

I am not panicking yet, but I can share some of my concerns about last night's game. 1. It looked like an AHL team vs. an NHL team last night - it was that bad. I don't think I've seen the Wings play a worse 60 minutes of hockey in recent memory. It wasn't like we got unlucky or couldn't cash in on chances - the Wings had no legitimate scoring chances. 2. I didn't see a single useful pass from our D to the forwards. Quincey in particular looked bad. 3. Franzen - who I am usually a big fan of - was non-existent. He looked like he was skating through mud. Same goes for Sammy. 4. Special teams = scary bad. Is Tom Renney running them? I've lost all faith in Renney's abilities after watching the debacle in Edmonton over the last few years. They've got to fix that. BUT, that was only game 1, and it was against a clearly amped-up St. Louis team. I have no doubt it will get better, I just hope it happens quickly. Also, I liked the way Brunner looked, and I liked Tootoo's speed and energy (I wish he made contact with Tarasenko on that hit attempt). Tootoo, Helm, and Miller would be a fast line. BTW, thoughts on Howard? I actually didn't think he deserved to get pulled - I assume it was more of a mercy move by Babcock.

Uh...the guys was out for almost 2 years with a concussion. What more do you want?

Oh. Sweet. Ah well, at least it wasn't to the Sharks

With cap space to clear, do Flyers become a Wings trade partner?
Yzerfan1999 posted a topic in General
If the Preds don't match, you've gotta think that the Flyers are going to need to shed some salary and a defenseman. No doubt they would love to get rid of Prongers 7 million dollar contract, but I doubt the Wings would swallow that salary without getting another good roster player to make up for it. Who do you think the Wings would target if they wanted to make a deal? Grossman? Coburn? Meszaros? Timonen?...Pronger? -
Good analysis, and hard to argue - though I am not 100% convinced it is all based on Bowman. I think after the 2009 SCF loss the whole image of the Wings organization changed from a dynasty-like team to that of a team in serious decline, and that image has grown over the past 2 years. The team is stagnant, really. Zetterberg and Datsyuk are still great players, but no one has stepped up to give the league any inkling that another superstar is on the horizon. Sure, guys like Helm and Abdelkader have developed nicely, but they are really just good bottom six guys. The Wings haven't signed anyone significant since Hossa, and the past two offseasons have proven that Detroit really isn't on young players list of desirable locations. Gone are the days when Holland can lowball Free Agents based on the fact that they have a great chance of winning a cup with the Wings. Suter and Parise chosing the Wild over the Wings exemplifies that. If Holland wants to compete in the FA market, I think he actually has to start overpaying like many of the small market teams are doing. Unfortunately, the FA ship has sailed this offseason, and now the Wings are pretty much stuck with what they have, barring some kind of miracle trade. Realistically though, who do the Wings have to offer to teams like Anaheim (Ryan), Columbus (Nash), or Calgary (Bouwmeester)? Even the trade angle doesn't look good - all these GMs would rather trade these guys to the Eastern Conference. I don't know - I just worry that Holland and the rest of the Wings management relies way too much on this 'winning tradition' angle, which doesn't seem to be working at all. All these young guys would much rather play in up and coming markets like Pittsburgh, Phili, LA, and even Edmonton than jump on what appears to be the Wings sinking ship. I guess all I am saying is that its all about image, and the Wings image right now is not good - Lidstrom is gone, they have fallen in the standings over the last couple of years, and the old saying 'never count out the Wings' veteran leadership or experience' is starting to wear pretty thin. Maybe all that is left is really left is to hope that guys like Nyquist, Tatar, and Smith make HUGE strides this season in order to convince the league that the Wings aren't entering a dark age. That being said, adding one star player like Nash or even Semin or Bouwmeester may go a long way. We will see!
-
I wouldn't mind a trade for Bouwmeester. His value has depreciated in Calgary, but I still think he can be effective, especially in the Wings system. He plays a similar style to Lidstrom (though not nearly as good), but I've also seen a bit of a mean streak in him. Those line combo's posted earlier make it apparent to me that if the Wings sign another foward, there are enough assets up front to use in a deal. The tough thing is that Calgary traded Phaneuf to the Leafs because they were set on JBouw being their guy. He hasn't really panned out, but the Flames would have to have balls to trade him at this point. With the emergence of Giordano though, they may bite at the right offer.

Is the Stanley Cup really the hardest trophy in all of pro sport?
Yzerfan1999 replied to RedWingsRox's topic in General
I think its FOR SURE the most grueling and toughest physically trophy to win, but then again a trophy like the World Cup that is only available every 4 years is pretty difficult to win too - especially considering the parity of the top 5-10 soccer nations, and the amount of games you need to play to even qualify. -
favorite wing never to win the cup in Detroit
Yzerfan1999 replied to Grind_Lines_#1_Fan's topic in General
Haha i was about to ask everyone where they were in 2008 when the Wings won a cup with Drake, and then I looked at the date of the posts. This is an oldy. I could have voted for Dino or Coffey, but I went 'other' because I really liked Curtis Joseph before he came to Detroit and would have loved for him to win a Cup with the Wings. He is one of the few players in the last 20-25 years that I think the Wings treated kind of poorly. Maybe that can be blamed on Hasek, but I never felt good about the way things went down with CuJo. -
Zetterberg with the C. 3 rotating A's - Datsyuk, Kronwall, Helm In Lids presser he listed a couple potential C's off the top of his head. Zetter, Kronwall, Fil. no Dats off the top of his head. Could mean nothing, but interesting.

As much as it sucks that Lidstrom is retiring, I am getting the feeling that it might be what the Red Wings actually need. Maybe it is time to pass the torch, ala Yzerman and Shanahan leaving after 2006. After they left, the accountability of the team rested on a new generation, and I think those guys really stepped it up in '07, '08, and '09. Maybe the same thing will happen over the next few years...the fear of dropping out of Cup contention/dominance of the past may motivate this group to pick up their play. I dunno, just trying to look on the bright side.

The Wings feed of the presser isnt working for me. URG

Rooting for New Jersey, Nashville, and Washington to lose
Yzerfan1999 replied to Diluvian04's topic in General
I am just cheering for the Kings to win. A Philly/LA final would be a neat storyline. Richards and Carter vs. the team that thought they could win without them. -
As much as I want both Parise and Suter, I have a sick feeling they might both go to Carolina. Wings TOP priority should be Suter though, then maybe go after Semin, who could be had for a bit cheaper IMO. If Lids retires, the Wings should go after both Suter and Wideman.
