Interesting...I thought I was being nice when I guessed it would be 35-40 games. I think Simon's own actions - leaving the Islanders and seeking help - affected the outcome of this to his own advantage.
-
I am usually pretty open to change, but this...this is just dumb.
-
Don't know how many of you have seen the clip yet - Chris Simon stomped on Ruutu's skate and received a match penalty for intent to injure. I will post the video as soon as its up on youtube. 'With the Islanders pressing for the tying goal, forward Chris Simon took a match penalty for trying to stomp on Jarkko Ruutu's foot with just under six minutes left...."It was a bad time for a penalty," Nolan said. "To tell you the truth, I didn't have the time to look at it and see the severity of it. We'll look at it and probably make a comment on it (Sunday)."' No more details yet. For those who HAVE seen it, considering Simon's history, how many games does he get? 20? 30? Thats what HNIC is calling for.
-
Yeah, I know - I've been keeping up with his plus minus in my pool, and you are right its a negative factor. He just seems to be in on a lot of big goals for Anaheim thus far. If he improves his +/-, he has a shot. P.S. Why don't we ever talk about any guys coming out of the East? Is the West just that much better defensively?
-
No way they give it to Niedermeyer. Its going to be Lidstrom or Pronger, I think.
-
Hahah. Well, in all fairness with EU expansion and the Shengen Agreement, Europe practically is a country. EDIT - as for the thread question - I think it could work given time. It would suck to see all of the great European players NOT come over to the NHL, but like they were saying on HNIC on Saturday night, the NHL wouldn't mind expanding globally anyways. Maybe the two leagues will eventually merge ala NHL/WHA?
-
I'd give him 35-40 games.
-
You mean: Imagine if the Detroit Red Wings were the Edmonton Oilers.
-
Intent of Simon's action is what the league will be looking at - not how much damage he did to Ruutu. Hollweg is a no-talent prick too, and wasn't seriously injured either, and Simon was still suspended the rest of the season and playoffs.
-
I don't see this happening too much. Forsberg did it, now Niedermayer did it. I think for them its more of the fact they were just losing interest in the game, wanted a break, or were 'injured'. Guys like Ovechkin and Crosby love playing way too much to do something like that. I wouldn't be worried. I do agree with the guy though. This playing a half-season bulls*** is...bulls***.

I feel bad for him to a degree, but from everything I have seen and heard, this kid's stock is falling dramatically. He just is NOT progressing like his draft mates of last year, and has not adapted his game at all in the last two years. I just think he isn't going to turn into the player everyone thought he was going to be 2 years ago. I fear another Alexander Daigle...
-
Yeah, in our head-to-head we have; G, A, +/-, PIM, PPP, SHP, GWG for skaters. For goalies its; GP, W, GA, GAA, SV%, S, SO. So thats what makes so many stats. I looked for my ranking, but I can't seem to find it - I followed your instructions and everything. I am probably not too high anyways. It has a leaderboard of the top 50 teams, which I am not on. Other then that, I don't know.

Doug Weight traded to Anaheim for Andy McDonald
Yzerfan1999 replied to blues_demitra38's topic in General
No link yet - but TSN just confirmed it on 'Thats Hockey'.' Burke is retarded - but it might not be just to make room for Neidermeyer. Selanne too? Nevermind - McDonald makes 3.88, Weight makes 3.5. What a strange deal, that doesn't even clear the room for Neidermayer - he needed $ 880,000. -

This seems like a REALLY odd move. Link anyone? I tend to be the guy who doesn't believe in these things till TSN reports it. edit - is this Strickland guy credible? -
I thought this was interesting; 'The Mitchell report detailed an e-mail from Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein to scout Mark Delpiano on Nov. 1, 2006, which said, "Have you done any digging on Gagne? I know the Dodgers think he was a steroid guy. Maybe so. What do you hear on his medical?" Delpiano's response in Mitchell's report reads as follows: "Some digging on Gagne and steroids is the issue. He had a checkered medical past throughout his career including Minor Leagues. [He] lacks the poise and commitment to stay healthy, maintain body and re-invent self. What made him a tenacious closer was the max effort-plus stuff. ... Mentality without the weapons and without steroid help probably creates a large risk in bounce-back durability and the ability to throw average while allowing the changeup to play as it once did. ... Personally, durability (or lack of) will follow Gagne." ' direct link http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/news/article....sp&c_id=bos Sure explains Gagne's fall from dominance after 2004...

I am 79-48-13 with a .611% and 171 pts. I have been tops in my Head-to-Head League since day one, but I think I may slip to second this week - I am just holding on. Here is my roster. Matthew Lombardi (Cgy - C) Eric Staal (Car - C) Mats Sundin (Tor - C) Daniel Sedin (Van - LW) Martin Erat (Nsh - LW,RW) DTD Henrik Zetterberg (Det - LW) Jamie Langenbrunner (NJ - RW) Jiri Hudler (Det - C,RW) Shane Doan (Pho - RW) Jason Spezza (Ott - C) Stephen Weiss (Fla - C) Jaromir Jagr (NYR - RW) Brian Rafalski (Det - D) Roman Hamrlik (Mon - D) Mark Streit (Mon - D) Scott Niedermayer (Anh - D) Ryan Suter (Nsh - D) Dustin Byfuglien (Chi - D) Antoine Vermette (Ott - C,LW) Zach Parise (NJ - C,LW) Goaltending Niklas Backstrom (Min - G) Josh Harding (Min - G) Martin Gerber (Ott - G) Ray Emery (Ott - G) I see we were both the lucky dogs to get Neidermeyer before anyone else!

I always liked CuJo's too, and Andy Moog's when he was playing. Tim Thomas' is kind of like it, just not as sweet. I love looking at these kinds of things.

Dont know how many of you acctually care...
Yzerfan1999 replied to #19=Legend's topic in Other Sports
Some of the names are dissapointing, but like most of these guys are saying - Look, we all knew about it. Its time to move on and start getting some better testing programs from outside agencies. I don't think this is going to cripple baseball, I know I'll be watching in a couple months. -
That sucks. You know what else sucks? The fact that the Wings gave up Matthais for Bertuzzi. This kid looks like he could be something big. http://www.ontariohockeyleague.com/stats/player.php?id=4029
-
Because McCabe sucks, and makes 7 million dollars.

If Colorado is out of the playoff race..for some reason, maybe the Wings should go after Andrew Brunette. One year left on a 1.6 mil contract and he has put up 50+ points each of the last three years (80 last year). Saying that, I don't think Colorado will be out of the playoffs...

I'm glad other people here are getting just as fed up with the bitching and whining about Crosby. You complain about how much attention he gets - yet there are 4 or 5 threads about the same thing going on at once. Get over it, and lets talk about the Red Wings.
-
Sucks for Umburger....they usually give at least one guy on the other team a pity star - and if they were going to choose, it would be Crosby with 2 apples. Great player. P.S. getting sick of all the Crosby hating on the boards this year...settle down - just cause he is young, famous, great at hockey, and ridiculously good looking, doesnt mean you guys have to have serious envy of the kid. Granted Umberger deserved a Star tonight - but no need to pile on to the Crosby trashing bus here. Its not like HE picked the stars guys.
