This is still unquestionably the worst no-goal call in recent memory. The call doesn't make any sense.

I am not gonna go through 20 pages of posts, but anyone else think Kronwall had an off game tonight? He had 2 BAD giveaways in the first, and didn't seem sharp all game. Then again, nobody really did.

Kyle Quincey traded to Detroit in 3 team trade (TBL & COL)
Yzerfan1999 replied to Tim.D's topic in General
I actually like this move. Quincey knows the Wings' system, he is young, and he has some offense in him. I like him on the blueline over Commodore. I remember being impressed with him when he stepped into the lineup during the 07 playoffs. The Wings would have traded that 1st round pick at the draft for 2 3rd rounders anyways. Hahah. Yzerman also looks like a genius basically trading Downie for a 1st rounder. Not bad. -
Stuart for sure because we got the results we wanted with him. But, the Schneider deal was great IMO. Even though we never won a cup with him, he played really well for us. If it wasn't for the broken wrist against the Ducks in 07, the Wings would have won the Cup IMO.

The SuperSkills competition is an embarrassment
Yzerfan1999 replied to wingsdiehard13's topic in General
The skills comp. is actually the only thing I watch on all-star weekend. I think its fun to see these guys show off a bit and have fun. Saying that, anyone else a little skeptical about Alfie and, to a lesser degree, Spezza's slapshot speeds? I know the NHL doesn't mes around like the KHL by doctoring the record speeds, but I find it really hard to believe Alfredsson can shoot the puck 5MPH more than Phaneauf....If he can, all the power to him, but I never expected the guy to get over 100MPH, especially considering his age and the tiny stick he uses. Crazy... -
Just have the guys throw their sticks in the middle like shinny. I also like the earlier mentioned suggestion of having two lucky fans draft the teams and make up the lines.
-
boring...I bet guys are gonna be jumping at the opportunity for a weekend in Columbus.. Time to change it up again - this whole draft thing is played out. I don't even watch the all-star game, the only thing worth tuning in to is the skills challenge.

Lot of bitching about a lack of response to the Howard scuffle at the end there. Overall I think this game was a perfect example of why the Wings DON'T need another tough guy. They matched the Blues toughness PERFECTLY - the only difference was the Blues took stupid penalties and the Wings didn't. The final scuffle was fine by me. I don't mind seeing Howard stand up for himself - everyone else was tied up anyways. Anyways, it was a really fun game to watch. I was impressed with the effort tonight.

Wow - these scenarios make ZERO sense to me. The Edmonton trade suggests we get rid of one of our top 4 d-men cause he is a pending Free Agent, for a struggling, injury plagued second liner who will also be a Free Agent at the end of the year. The second deal proposes we get rid of a WHOLE LINE of our bottom 6 forwards, for 1 bottom six forward and an overrated defenseman - both of whom will be Free Agents at the end of the year. No way Holland is giving up on Emmerton, who has played really well this season, or Drew Miller, who has been one of our best bottom 6 scorers thus far, nor will he shake up this team that drastically. In the past, Holland has had a really hard time giving up even one roster player to make room for someone else at the deadline. I think any deal involving the Wings will be for prospects, draft picks, and maybe 1 lower-level roster player.
-
Lets actually sit back and think about how ridiculous this is for a minute. Zetterberg is in the 3rd year of his 12 year deal - Holland made it clear that they want Zetterberg in Detroit for the rest of his career when he was signed. People are getting poopy because it seems like Zetterberg has lost a step over the last couple of seasons, yet the guy is still on pace for 60+ regular season points, not to mention his worth is measured mostly in his ability to perform in the playoffs. The guys postseason numbers are great when it matters most, and the Red Wings have always regarded playoff performances as being more valuable than regular season stats. Trading for Iginla of all people is arguably not an improvement in the short term, and leaves them stranded next year, once he becomes a free agent. Zetterberg's cap hit of just over 6 mill is an absolute STEAL in today's game, and I am sure the Wings are more than happy having Zetter on their books for the long haul. Besides, when has Ken Holland EVER traded a major roster player before the deadline? Never. Zetterberg won't be traded. The Wings are on pace for another great year, and Holland will attempt to get a second line scorer closer to the deadline. Keep in mind Iginla has stated publicly that he does not want to leave Calgary. I am not convinced they are willing to part with him, either. It makes no sense on so many levels. Edit - I addressed the Iginla rumour here..but the Weiss crap is even more ludicrous

Hey guys, anyone from Windsor around? I am coming down next Friday to go to the Wings/Oilers game. Last time I stayed in Detroit, this time I think we are gonna try staying in Windsor. I heard there is a Tunnel Bus that takes you to games/events/etc. Is that true? Any tips for taking it, or other ways to get to the game? Cheers.

I suppose all i need is my passport and my tickets to show them I am actually going to the game? I didn't have too much trouble crossing a month ago went I went to the game vs. the Sense. The guy just quizzed me a bit on who the Wings were playing, what time, and where I was staying. I guess they just wanted to make sure I was really going to the game.

Hi hi, So next month I will be making my first trip to Detroit to see the Wings play their home opener against Ottawa. I've lived in Edmonton for the last 20 years and recently moved to Toronto for school, making the trip a lot more realistic. Do you guys have any suggestions for Wings'-related places to visit before and after the game? I'll be going with a friend from Edmonton who is converting from an Oilers fan for the night (hopefully his experience will turn him for good). Also, if anyone has done the Detroit - Toronto drive and has any tips, lemme know! THANKS!

Thanks guys, this has been very helpful so far.

Terrible news. I saw Belak here in Toronto on Monday afternoon on my way to the Blue Jays game. From all accounts he was a great guy. I feel awful for his wife and children.
-
Campoli UFA Do the Wings make a pitch for him, or are they set for next year already?
-
Get rid of Filppula? No way - that guy was the reason the Wings won game 6. Granted, i'd like to see his point totals closer to 50 per season, but what he does defensively and on the PP makes him worth 3.5 mil, especially in this league. I don't know what to do about Salei. I wasn't impressed during the regular season, but I REALLY liked his game during the playoffs. Solid solid player, and he ate up a lot of valuable ice time. Then again, it might be time to let Kindl or even Brenden Smith step up. I've always liked Ericsson but I don't know if its worth bringing him back for more than 1.5 mil. I'd hate to see him go to another team. I bet the Wings keep him. What do you guys think about a guy like James Wisniewski? He makes the D a lot meaner, and he is only 27. Not sure what kind of money he would command, but he has decent numbers, a mean streak, and he's young (by Red Wing standards). Anyways, it should be an interesting offseason. Looks like that was it for guys like Draper, Holmstrom, Modano, and Osgood.
-
I doubt this goes down. Firstly, I would think the Caps would keep him for a Cup run. Secondly, the Wings would NOT give up Hudler, Ericsson and Larsson plus a draft pick for a rental who most likely wont re-sign for a discount and will likely wind up somewhere like New York or LA. Finally, giving up two roster players for one doesn't fit Hollands track record. The guy is all about depth. Hudler and Ericsson have been in deep playoff runs. I think the Wings offense is pretty darn good. Holland's targets should be another D man and possibly a backup goalie is Osgood isnt ready.

This, coming from the King. Everyone who posts a story about Crosby KNOWS it will be turn into a gang bang thread.

Not so fast you idiots. My link Seriously, someone go start www.letshatecrosby.com The attention this kid gets on our boards has seriously detracted from the quality of these boards over the past 2 years.

I don't think the OP got the idea of the article right at all. McKenzie (not MacKenzie) is parodying himself and the rest of the media because they always feel like they are right, or know more - but in reality, they are just like the fans - they THINK they know better than the league executives, but really they don't. McKenzie is a great analyst, probably the most respected by league executives and players alike. Not to mention - he has a hard on for the Wings, and ALWAYS picks them to either make the finals or win the Cup. He seems like the only one on TSN to ever give the Wings their proper due, and I respect him for that, among other things.

Should we risk our future for an elite defenseman?
Yzerfan1999 replied to dropkickshanahans's topic in General
Lids can't be replaced. It will have to be done by committee. I like Stuart, Kronwall, Ericsson, and Raffi in the meantime - but the Wings will have to sign a #2-3 defenseman to keep up. Brent Seabrook is an RFA after this season, and so is Jack Johnson. -
Game changer for the wings was a NON call in the third right after the Nucks went up 5-4. Kronwall came into the Van zone and was blatantly tripped at the blue line with no call - he took the puck over the line and some Van player used his stick to tie up his trailing foot. That ends up a turn over and Bertuzzi takes the roughing call on Kesler. HNIC feed said NOTHING, how about the Detroit feed? Anyone else see that???

If the current Ducks jersey f*cked the current Flames jersey, this is what it's child would look like. Its horrid. Vertical stripes = bad idea.
