Gelinas gets my vote. He would make ANY team better. I'd love to see him in the Wings Uni - but I think the Oilers should really make a push for him.
-
Penguins are my Eastern Conf. team. After them comes the Sens. Of course my #1 by far is the Wings, but after them - i like to see my hometown Oilers win, they've always been an exciting team to watch too.

Why are the NEW authentic Capitals jerseys cheaper then the old Wings ones? What sense does that make? Is it because Wings merch. sells way more so they jack up the prise? Hardly seems fair.... http://shop.nhl.com/product/index.jsp?prod...dy_bestsell_img http://shop.nhl.com/product/index.jsp?prod...kid=body_rv_txt

I like the Bauer stuff Skates are Bauer Vaper 8 (I still rock the old models) Helmet - Bauer 3500 Gloves - Louisville TPS Bionic Stick - Graf KS Stiff The rest is a mishmash of pads..mostly old CCM stuff. I only play Ball Hockey and Rec League in the winter, so I'm not too concerned with getting all the new stuff these days. I must say though, the only Skates I have ever been disapointed with are CCM's... there is just something about them that i just cant stand. I always go back to the Bauers.

Ohhh.. So 'Premier' means replica? I wonder when the authentic Caps ones come out...along with the rest of them.

Wrong. They would have been horrible together. 2 D-men who aren't particularly strong in there own end? Smith had a TERRIBLE year last year - any deal involving him leaving Edmonton was a good deal. Souray is an offensive defenseman and the Oilers PP just got a huge boost. Congrats to them for finally signing someone. P.S. Why is this a 'desperation signing'? Souray said they had been talking since July 1st. They didnt overpay for him (considering some of the contracts being handed out this offseason), and they already got Pitkanen from the Flyers. If they were looking for a desperation signing they would have gone after a forward..like Lindros or O'Neil. Thats where the Oilers are weak now, up front. Do you watch Oilers hockey much?

I'll go with the minority on this one. I'll take Quincey over Lebda. I liked his game better then Lebda's during the playoffs last year and I think his size is an asset. Lebda is a great skater and he is fast - but he just doesn't seem strong enough in our own end to be a powerful defenseman. Apparently he owns 'offensive potential' - but he hasn't really put up big defensman points at any point in his major/minor career. He has these nice offensive rushes from time to time, but they never seem to produce a whole lot...at least not yet. My impression of Quincey from the playoffs is that he is a sound positional player who can jump up if he is needed. He didn't make any glaring errors in the playoffs which is REALLY impressive seeing as he had only played 7 regular season games in the NHL prior to the playoffs. 2 or 3 years down the road i think Quincey will pop up into our top 4 d-man rotation. Lebda is more experienced right now, but I think Quincey has more potential. I'd like to see him get 60+ games this year.

Lang is a better hockey player. He has more skill and potential then Drake. Problem is - he doesnt always use it. Drake MAY be more valuable to this team - but only time will tell. As for 'who is better'? Lang by leaps and bounds.
-
Prediction: Dallas Drake is released/bought out before the all-star break.

haha! amazing!

Your taking one season of minor play as his career potential? Sweet - he averaged a point per game ONCE in the minors and averages a point about every 8 games at the NHL level. Kopecky also had 72 points and managed to play a whole season in GR. Look, im not a fan of Kopecky - my argument is that the Wings ALREADY HAVE KOPECKY UNDER CONTRACT.. Why would they offer another contract to a similar player (stats wise) when they already have a number of 13th forwards. It doesnt make sense. Offer up minor stats all you want - Kopecky's are better on almost every level. I'll admit, i really dont think Kopecky is the answer to the Wings offensive problems, but the essence of this argument was that you people were flipping out at Holland for NOT signing Brad Winchester. I still can't believe it...who is next? Why don't you guys just find the most random free agent on the market who is over six feet, and beg Holland to sign him. Holland has made more Stanley Cup winners/contenders in the last 10 years then any other GM. Look at his supporting cast in Nill and Yzerman. They all know what it takes to make a franchise successful. How can you guys ***** at him for not signing a no name 'enforcer'? Trust me, i LIVE in Edmonton, i watched this pathetic excuse for a forward 'play' 57 games this year - (largely because of Oiler injuries) and he didnt add a spark or grit to any game. He was VERY forgettable. I guarantee you that half of the board would be up in arms if Winchester was signed by the Wings, and rightfully so - there is no frickin' point. Thats half a million dollars worth of salary that could have been offered to another player, and after the Oilers/Smyth fiasco at the trade deadline, we all know how far half a mil. goes. And Lou - if you want to compare minor stats Kopecky http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?i...e=nhl-red_wings Winchester http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?i...bname=nhl-stars You can compare... i think Kopecky's numbers (while not great) are favourable. He seems to be able to adjust nicely to the league he is playing in after a couple of years. Once again, im not arguing for Kopecky's sake, they are both sub par fourth liners. I just think its silly to ***** out Holland for not signing Brad Winchester of all people. It's like KP is going to give up all hope for the Wings just cause Winchester of all people is not platooning our fourth line. Winchester is not a one of a kind player.
-
It seems no one has grasped what i am trying to say. Cleary put up BIG numbers in Jr. and scouts knew he had the potential to score - why NOT take a chance on him and invite him to training camp. And like I said earlier, even Kopecky put up good numbers in the AHL. Winchester hasn't put up big numbers any level. Why would Holland gamble on this guy? If he was going to take a chance on some low level player, he has to at least have some potential. Winchester does not bring much to the table for the Wings.
-
Nylander will be a Capital next season. The only thing the Oilers can hope for is some kind of compensation from the league. A draft pick or cash perhaps, i guess we will see. I haven't heard anything about the leagues actions towards the situation as of yet - so I wonder if they will even do anything.
-
They also went 12-5 without him in the playoffs and beat the sens in 5 games without him.
-
.....but...are you comparing Winchester to Chris Neil? The sad thing is Chris Neil had 30 pts, and Winchester isnt even HALF the player Neil is. These are two completely different players! Neil is a pest - he gets under the other teams skin. Winchester doesn't do any of that. He doesn't chirp, cheat shot, or go after other teams tough guys. Neil is a valuable player on many levels. Winchester is not even in the same league. P.S Shawn Thornton didnt even register a point in the playoffs and averaged around 3 minutes of ice time a night. These type of guys get NO ice time in the playoffs. Look, like i said before - Kopecky is signed, and Holland is going to take his chances with him. He has proven himself in the CHL, AHL as a goal scorer, and now he may get some more time in the NHL. Don't get me wrong - Im not a big fan of his either, I'm just saying why would Holland spend MORE money on another 13th forward rather then trying to sign a bigger name, or work out a trade at the deadline. It just doesn't make any sense from a financial stand point. Why don't you guys ***** out Holland for not signing Chris Simon or Matthew Barnaby. Those are Chris Neil type players who get under opponents skin, and at least they score the odd goal...
-
Last season was a good example. The Wings didnt NEED 'big' guys like Winchester. They had an amazing regular season and were beaten by, yes, a big Ducks team, but a GOOD big Ducks team. The Ducks won the cup cause they had a team with guys like Getzlaf, Penner and Pronger, who have skill to match there toughness - They didnt win cause of guys like Brad Winchester, who get in the odd scrap and score fewer then a hand full of goals a year. In fact, Parros, the Ducks 'enforcer' didnt even play in the playoffs. If the Wings are going to add toughness, Holland is going to be smart about it. And to answer your question Kp-Wings, Kopecky is already a Wing with a contract and an effect on the payroll- In fact he makes 475 000 in 07/08, the same amount as Winchester will now make in Dallas. You are right, he is useless -but unless he is traded, he takes up cap space. Maybe you think Winchester is an improvement...but in reality he is only a slight one. Why would Holland go after a player who wont REALLY help the team AND add more figures to the cap limit? He will take his chances with Kopecky who at least showed he can score in WHL and the AHL. Winchester never even put up a point per game in his minor career.

This is getting out of hand. People are getting on Holland for missing the signings on no name big guys. Listen to me. I saw Winchester play 50+ games last year. Sure he dropped the gloves from time to time, but other then that, he was completely useless. People go from bitching Holland out for not signing a scoring 2nd liner - to hating him for passing up the opportunity to sign a career 13th forward. SETTLE DOWN. There are a dozen Brad Winchesters out there - are you really hating Holland for passing on a guy who has 10 points in 80 NHL games? Why would Holland take the added salary to add ANOTHER 13th forward to the roster. Just cause Holland didn't sign Brad f*cking Winchester doesn't mean he has failed us all.
-
Edmonton didnt sign him BECAUSE HE SUCKS. Look people, Holland is not going to go out an sign anyone just because they are big. Winchester was invisible here last year. Holland obviously took the hint, if he isnt good enough to crack the Oilers line up this year, he is not going to benefit the Wings. The only thing he would do is take playing time away from better, more skilled players.
-
"Holland says that the Wings really did the Ducks on the ropes in the third round, and the injuries to Schneider and Kronwall played a large part in their loss, but the playoffs showed that their playoffs will fight through it, but they need to be able to 'give it' ". What? Either Holland was drunk when he said this or he is a dirty man.

Oilers sign RFA Vanek to 7-yr, $50M Offer Sheet
Yzerfan1999 replied to Wingsfan72's topic in General
Nice try Oilers...I like the move though, they took a chance and unfortunately for them the Sabres matched. For those of you hoping Holland offers out one of these...dream on. I really can't see Holland dishing out big cash for anyone if he's not even able to sign Bertuzzi, Markov or Schnieder. Going after RFA's is a move that desperate teams, like Edmonton make. Holland is in no position to do this. -
What is this? The pre-lockout NHL? They are paying SCOTT GOMEZ 10 MILLION DOLLARS this season? A guy who scored 13 goals last season..wow. What will Dan Cleary expect when he becomes a UFA.... Once again, the Rangers are whats wrong with the NHL. Glen Sather, you are a moron. P.S. If Gomez plays all 82 games this year, he will make $121,951.22 per game. Makes you a little sick doesn't it?

BBBBBBBBAAAAAAAAAAAAH I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE. EDIT: Sorry. saw him play a couple seasons in Edmonton. He is a 6th D-man AT BEST, and Quincey and Meech are better options at this point for the Wings, IMO.
