  1. The problem with Eva's point is that 'top tier' players can be argued. I think Sweden definatly produces the best players outside of Canada, but the amount of good Canadian players heavily outweighs Swedish players. Try comparing the top 5 players from each country.

    Oilers / Nylander Mess

I doesnt seem like anything was formal. Nylander didnt SIGN anything, just agreed verbally..or electronically i guess. Its a s***ty thing to do (go back and chose a different contract) but Lowe hasnt been able to do SH*T this offseason and he is looking for excuses. Time to STFU Lowe, and start making some moves. The Oilers are going to be WORSE then last year.

Post your lineup for this season.

Uhg.. Kopecky being a full time player next year scares me. IMO, he was noticeably DREADFUL in the playoff games he played.

    Wing's worst offseason in years

The more I look at it, the more i realize how much the Wings lost this offseason. People ***** about Lang being lazy, but with him gone, thats 20 goals someone else has to make up. Bertuzzi didn't get much time here, but I still feel he was an impact player - not to the extent we wanted him to be - but he filled a roster spot nicely and had the ability to create plays and set up goals. While Calder was terrible in the playoffs, I think his hand injury had alot to do with it. He played VERY well for the Wings down the stretch when he was healthy. The loss of Schneider is overshadowed by the Rafalski signing, but that still leaves three full time roster spots - Lang, Calder, and Bertuzzi, that are as of right now supposed to be filled by who? Grigorenko, Hudler, and ?? I have no question Hudler can 'play' at the NHL level, but him and Grigorenko WILL NOT fill the spots left by these three guys. Listen to the names again. Lang, Calder, and Bertuzzi. 2 of the 3 are or were all-stars at one point in there career and are capable (when healthy) to put up 50+ points. My concern right now is where are those points going to be made up? Certainly Holland doesn't think Grigs will step in with a 70pt season? I really think the Wings need to make a move for a solid 2nd line roster player.

Holland: Free Agent Shopping is Probably Done

I really dont understand the facsination with Arron Asham. He has never put up even DECENT numbers in the NHL, he will be a fourth liner for his entire career, and he is not a big body. I'm sorry, this guy is not an enforcer or a tough guy - sure he will stand up and drop the gloves from time to time, but is that worth leaving Hulder or Grigs out of the line-up. The guy had 34 points ONCE, its like someone looked up 'remaining free-agents' and chose the most obscure guy ever so that there choice for the next Wings free agent signing would be original compared to all the calls for Guerin, O'Neill, or Smyth. I say Holland ice's the team he has - if he is going to add anyone, and take ice time away from younger players, make it worth while. Sign a vet. who is strong in BOTH ends of the ice and still puts up 40+ points. If that can't be had, take your chances with the young guns.

My final two free agent requests

Defense - Brent Sopel. Forward - Comrie or Gelinas. We need to fill a couple roster spots. Comrie, while small, can put the puck in the net and is a good skater. Gelinas is a solid veteran who is said to be in the best shape of any player in the NHL (this according to CBC's Kelly Hrudey). Any word on Teemu Selanne's intentions for next season? What else is out there in terms of solid roster players?? http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=212407&hubname=

My final two free agent requests

now that Hasek is wrapped up, i truly think a guy like Gelinas will round out this team nicely. Doubt it will happen though. Looks as if Holland is set with his team and will make moves at the deadline if he thinks they are needed

Would Jeff O'Neil be a good fit?

    no.
  9. Yzerfan1999

    players off everyone's radars

My vote is going for Gelinas. He is a very solid everyday player who has a knack for big goals. I think he would fit in nicely on the wings 2nd or 3rd line.

My final two free agent requests

I really think people are grasping for straws now that i see you all want Holland to offer contracts to RFA. I really really don't think the Wings are going to pick up any RFA's, its much too costly.

    Oilers re-sign Raffi Torres

Hardly. The guy is lazy and has severe motivation problems. He could be a consistent 30 goal scorer and a real enforcer if he didn't have a bad case of Robert Lang.

    Devils land Souray

I have heard NOTHING official about this signing. Although it may be in the works, no major sports casting station has reported it....

    Slava Kozlov or Mike Comrie

Pass and Pass...although with the people flying off the market so quick, they seem like some of the only good players left.
  15. One year ago today many of us watched our hero retire after a wonderful career. Thought I would make a quick remembrance thread for our wonderful captian. miss you Steve!

WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON?

Why the ef is everyone crying like we are down 3-0 against the Ducks in the first round of the playoffs? Sure, there were alot of free agents out there, and alot of big signings, but keep in mind, we already added arguably the best D-man on the market. We will resign Hasek and that leaves us needing a 2nd line forward and MAYBE and D-man sometime before NEXT YEARS PLAYOFFS. The Wings will compete and win there division again this year - none of our division rivals have improved enough to warrant any threat. Settle down. We have a friggin good team here.

    Bertuzzi a Duck: 2-Years, $8M

Correct. Face the facts guys - Bertuzzi is a shadow of his former self. You can quote me on that at the end of next season too.

    Bertuzzi a Duck: 2-Years, $8M

Time for Holland to stop playing the oh-so-smart 'waiting game' with these free agents. Its obviously not going our way.

    Robert Lang to the Hawks

Well good luck to Lang. He scored a couple big goals for us over the years....

    Caps Sign Nylander

Weird i thought Edmonton had signed him.

Who is next to sign with Detroit?

Oh god. The only free agent rumoured to Detroit is Ruslan Fedotenko? Sweet, he had 41 points once..... Don't crucify me for saying this, but the Wings don't need any more Euro 'Stars'. The Ducks won the cup with toughness, which as they showed - typically comes from North American style players. If we are going to sign a 40-50 point guy, why not spend the money on someone who plays like Cleary or Draper. I still say Peca would be a nice addition to any team, particularly THIS team. He is the kind of guy who picks up his play in a BIG way in the playoffs too. Remember what he did for the Oilers during there '06 run? I bet he could be had for pretty cheap too...
  23. Yzerfan1999

Who is next to sign with Detroit?

The Wings will pass on Kozlov cause he is a sissy and they already have 2 glorious playmakers in Zetterberg and Datsyuk. Red Wings sign Micheal Peca to a 2 year, 4 million dollar deal. You heard it here first.

    Pens sign Sydor & Sykora

If the Pens can add one more d-man, they are going to be scary good. Look for them to win the east next year.
