Are the Rangers not concerned with there defense at all? Beyond PROSPECT Staal, it looks pathetic.
-
Anyone thought of Buffalo? They have some cap space to fill now that both Drury AND Briere did not re-sign. Could they be in the running?
-
Agreed. He is going to get bored...fast. He isn't even 34 yet. How much golf can a man play? Okay well then next summer he will unretire.
-
I bet Smyth stays with the Islanders or the Avalanche. Leafs are out after signing Blake. Detroit is out after Rafalski. New York is out after signing everyone. Calgary is out after resigning Iginla to a multiyear deal. Edmonton was never in the running but are dumbasses because they could have resigned him last year at 5.5 mill, and I guarantee he gets close to 7 now.

Oilers nicely dumped two players who played like garbage last season. Smith was hardly the physical defensman of prior years and consistently coughed up the puck. Lupul looked like an amateur on most nights. Don't ask my how he got 28 goals in Anaheim two years ago. Pitkanen is the big puck moving defensman the Oilers were looking for. They need another scoring forward and they should have a much better season.

Hardly. Defense wins championships.. Besides, how is this even possible? Didnt they spend all there money on Gomez?

What do the Wings do with the money they have left?
Yzerfan1999 replied to Bert44Wingsfan's topic in General
I say Hasek, Bert, and Ouellet - will be cheaper and younger then Kozlov. then done. -
Seconday response. Im cool with it. He may be smaller then Schneider, but he is the same if not better on the PP and seems like a pretty smart player. IMO - he is an upgrade. Not worth 6 mill, but it seems like overpaying guys is the trend this free agent season. I will be REALLY happy if we lock up Bertuzzi and sign a guy like Michel Ouellet. Them along with Hasek will round out a pretty solid team.
-
My initial response. Too much money - too much time. All of us who wanted Smyth or Drury can kiss that thought goodbye.

I agree completely. As long as Holland gets Hasek and Bert signed, I think this team has a great chance next year. Another solid D-man and a scoring 2nd line forward would be nice, but I'm not jumping ship if we don't get a big name player this week.

Poor guy... How did he never learn to read?
-
I dont get it... Was it some kind of blue balls joke? I don't care either way if he posts in pirate talk or not - i just said its funny at times, but I've started to skip them over because it takes to long for me to understand what the dude is trying to say. I would HOPE that by the time next season starts he is back to talking normally so I can read his posts without having to sound out every word...at least in the GD. But by all means if you enjoy it and so do some others, keep talking that way.
-
Yeah, I was surprised with his numbers. He is still pretty young and his numbers have been going up over the last two seasons. The more I think about it, I think he would be a nice fit on the second line in Detroit.
-
Any takers or ideas where the guy will end up. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=211936&hubname=nhl Decent numbers and still pretty young. I think he may be someone the Oilers end up looking at. -might also fit nicely on a second line here in Detroit.
-
I enjoyed the pirate thing for a while. Its fun to joke around in the Water Cooler with that stuff. But seriously, when I see your posts here, I tend to skip them since it takes too long for me to make sense of some of the things you are writing. Which is a shame cause you tend to have nice ideas/topics. The pirate talk is too hard on my brain!

Well according to some 'rumors' the Wings are very interested in Smyth - but I think you are right, we would never win a bidding war with another team over the guy. I am more content with the Wings trying to keep Bert.
-
His numbers were probably inflated because of who he was playing with - but don't forget that just proves he can complement other good players...such as Zetterberg and Datsyuk. He might be a good fit on a line with one of those guys. He only made 500k last year, so there are two scenarios. He doesn't give a crap WHO he plays for - he will take the highest bid. OR - he wants to win - and comes to the Wings for a reasonable price. Either way - I wont be heartbroken either way. I just think he would complement the team.
-
The problem is O'Neill was NEVER a superstar - he has never even scored 70pts. Bertuzzi was only 1 year removed from superstar status. Holland is not stupid enough to offer O'Neill a 2 MILLION dollar deal. He wont even pay Chelios a Million, what makes you think he will take 2 million dollar chance on Jeff O'Neill? He was a healthy scratch on several occasions in TORONTO - a non-playoff team.
-
Toss Datsyuk in the mix and it would be a great deal.
-
I've had my say on Torres in another thread. He is lazy and not worth 3 first rounders. As for a trade - I don't think the Wings are willing to give up anything that the Oilers WANT in return for him.
-
Agreed. I bet he resigns at the end of the season for a one year deal, then retires. Or maybe even hangs em up after this year? It would be nice to get a deal done with Zetterberg BEFORE he hits the end of his current contract. The Wings HAVE to hold on to him - he is more important then Datsyuk IMO...I hope the Wings realize that.
