JEFF O'NEILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????? What is this place coming to? I can't take these threads begging the Wings to sign/trade for guys like Marty Lapointe, Jeremy Roenick, and now...Jeff O'Neill? Whose next? Eric Lindros? The Wings are trying to get BETTER..not take chances on guys who have not produced in 3 years. Detroit will make a push for Smyth if they can't get Bertuzzi signed. I also think they will look for a top 4 D-man to support the loss of (at least) Schneider. After that, they will be pushing the Cap. We made it deep into the conference finals last years, i really dont think its the time to downgrade to older washed up players. Just plug one or two solid guys in the lineup and I think the Wings will compete again next year.

I cringe at the thought of the Wings signing Roenick. The guy had some great years, but he has proved in the last two seasons that he isnt the player he used to be. Like his charisma all you want - i think the Wings have enough role players and personalities in the lineup. Besides, it is the wrong time to keep signing more old players. We've got Chelios and Hasek already, but they have proved they can still play well - time to keep with the trend and get younger. I respect Roenick and think he can make some team better, but not the Wings. Please, not the Wings. Roenick will sign with the Maple Leafs, they love signing the old guys.

For some reason ive always been attracted to the idea of Peca playing for the Wings. If he can be signed for in or around 1 million, i say go for him. In my eyes he is just as good defensively as Draper, with added scoring potential. Plus he is three years younger. Problem is...is there a need for him AND Draper on the Wings?

Sillinger has been traded 8 times since the 96 season. But still, i'll pass on 'Dancin' Anson'.

Whats with these old American players loving St. Louis so much. Weight has been back an forth for the last how many years? Tkachuk...Guerin....maybe we could throw Schneider into the mix?
-
I dont doubt that fans in Chicago and St. Louis still hate the Red Wings, but the intense hatred has to go both ways for it to be a true rivarly...and the other team has to have something to brag about. The Wings have mopped the floor with both the Blues and the 'Hawks pretty consistently for the last decade. Teams like Calgary and the Ducks seem to have just as much hate for us and we have for them at this point...

Not that I have anything against the french...but why is it a link the RDS website? I like Preissing. He'd be a welcome addition to the Wings... for the right Preiss... .....

Edmonton Edmonton Edmonton Edmonton Edmonton Kevin Lowe and the Investors Group who own the Oilers seem to have to hair brained idea that one lucky Cup final year will keep the fans captivated for 3 or 4 piss poor seasons. The problem is that the Oilers continue to make money, even if they SUCK - because fans here will also go to the games. The Investors Group has the money to sign players, but refuse to dish out the cash. Not to mention there seems to be a huge stigma against playing for the Oilers. It was rated one of the worst places to play in THN survey. But hey..i guess you could make an argument that it IS a well run franchise. They are financially successful at least....

Im curious to see how the wings incorporate the NHL logo in the V of there necks...hope it doesnt throw them off too much.

I see his ability as a 60-70 point guy. Im all for keeping him. I want to believe you! I just find it kind of bizzare that he would call up his old Vancouverite neighbour to tell you this. Were you guys pretty tight or what?

I think it would be hard to consider the Leafs a rival. They played for the first time in how many years on CBC this past year and it was pretty much the most tame and boring game I saw all year. They would fit more into the traditional Wings rivals like Colorado, Chicago, and St. Louis. I think Calgary is getting up there in terms of a rivalry. Two chippy playoff series in the last couple of years. Same goes for Anaheim.

I don't understand why people take the time to respond to the poster, saying he is idiotic, and not to the general post. If you don't like the post, spare us all and just skip the response. Since when did we all become the authority on what hockey questions people should ask here? If something is idiotic and I feel its not worth a response, I don't even bother opening it. Why waste the time?

I saw Torres play every night here in Edmonton last season. The guy was a bust. His '07 season was riddled by dumb penalties and generally poor play. If there is one guy on the Oilers who I cant stand, its Torres. I can't wait till the Oilers ship him out of town. Some poor team is going to get fooled by his 27 goal season last year, I just hope its not the Wings. Hudler is a completely different player. While he lacks the physicality that Torres brings to the game, he put up similar numbers as Torres did this year (same # of goals, 9 fewer assists), with limited ice time and 8 fewer games. While Torres's play earned him several stints on the 4th line here in Edmonton, the majority of his time was on the second and third lines. Hulder is also 2 years younger and 3 NHL season's behind Raffi. I think from an offensive stand point they are fairly even. But you are correct about the potential physical presence of Torres - although this year he really failed to assert himself (save from that huge hit Jason Williams early this season). The fans really got on him in Rexall for his uninspired play. think we are all tired of players with questionable work ethic and motivation. I also hope this fascination with signing Kozlov goes away. Soon. He was nowhere in the playoffs last year, did not even register a point and he is 10 years removed from his average playoff years as a Wing.
-
Interesting. Personally i'd rather put Bertuzzi in there for Kozlov. I bet we could sign Todd for somewhere around 3 mill. I think Kozlov will get a deal closer to 4, and Ryan Smyth will command 6 on the FA market. Someone will dish out big cash for this guy. But hey, its always a possibility right? D looks pretty solid.

Settle down. Its a decent 'What if?' question. No need need to get nasty about it. If you don't like the idea, just let him know, don't just insult him. Now, my answer to the question. No. I don't think Lapointe would benefit this team. Sammy seems to have found a role within the Wings system. IMO.

all drunk.. wettin' a line..and reeling in a log... i thought it was funny.... me and my dadio in the netherlands...sorry its dark. This is what me and my roommates do in our spare time... p.s. thats the start of my playoff beard in April... theres the beard a little more progressed..you will also notice we are doing our secret handshake...or something. ...i have no shame. fun huh? there is one more in my profile, but i m half naked in it, so i didnt want to post all over the net... you know how it is.. spare the gents.

Its also been really overplayed how 'weak' this draft year is. http://www.canada.com/edmontonjournal/news...48-21b436a3c8a4 There is no Crosby Malkin or Ovechkin, but there is plenty of talent still. Everything is up in the air.
-
Correct. Except i dont think its a shame he cant spend it. Makes everything a little more even and exciting..doncha think? We've had 2 years of post lockout hockey and they've been pretty darn exciting if you ask me. But yeah, the Wings have a number of guys they need to resign, and i think alot of what Detroit does on the Free Agent market this summer depends on how much they sign Hasek for. Im afraid he might command a bit more cash - he proved last year he can still play and that he wants the cup again. It will be interesting to see what he signs for.

wings should go after iginla next off season

I was kidding. Hate or love him, he plays his heart out for his team - as we saw in the playoffs. He would be a welcome addition to any team. Even the Wings. Reality of it happining? eh..I bet he stays in Calgary. -
As incoherent as kindlwillbegreat is, he is right. There is no way the 'Hawks would give up Aucoin and the FIRST OVERALL PICK for Alex Tanguay. Tangauy is good. But defenatly not worth the Hawks captain and there first #1 pick in how many years? I think we are all forgetting how rare the opportunity to pick first overall is. PLUS, the Flames are short on offense already. I cant see them giving up a key ingredient to the only scoring line they have. I dont know, it just doesnt make sense to me. I think they will just like Hamerik and Staurt walk onto the market on the 1st. That will save them some cap space.
-
Whats the friggin point in trying to sign Guerin. The Wings are old enough...Holland HAS GOT to start going after the younger free agents. But - Darryl Sydor would be nice in a Wings uni... Ive always been a fan. Jason Blake wont repeat a 40 goal season, especially not in the bigger, tougher Western Conf. Smyth - out of our price range.

goon hate him. -
I would consider the Wings as one of the few teams with multiple 'franchise players'. While i personally think Zetterberg is more valuable to the team, Datsyuk's numbers dont lie. The euro twins plus Lidstrom gives the Wings 3 All-Stars who could easily be franchise players on other teams. I think when most people think of the Red Wings, those are the big three that they think of as the players carrying this team. Holland has shown that he is committed to building the team around these guys, especially Datsyuk (hence the 7 year contract) and i really don't think he has the slightest inkling to trade any of these guys. Now I'm sure if Crosby was on the market that may change, but Holland is not going to trade the all-star plus the chemistry of Datsyuk for a young defensmen who is still a wild card, and the CHANCE at signing Forsberg (LONGSHOT), and Smyth, who I think is a longshot too. He is a great player, but does not really fit into the Wings system. The guy is a crash and banger, and while we all love to see our guys do that - Zetterberg and Datsyuk are more puck carrying players. The plain and simple of it is that it is hard to imagine Holland totally overhauling a system which he seems to have been developing for the last 4 or 5 years. Thats just how I see it. Why break up a good thing?

Big deal...the guy stunk out the place last year in Chicago. Why do the Flames continue to get more and more defensive?
