Wtf mate? This proposal is flawed in many ways; Holland would never..ever..consider that. Why trade our franchise player for a young, relatively unproven defenseman? I realize you want to free up space for Forsberg and Smyth, and while I think Smyth is a great addition to any team - he is not worth a Datsyuk at this point. The chemistry between Pavel and Hank is unparalleled in the NHL. Why on earth would Holland consider splitting that up? The Wings seemed to be VERY close to having what it takes to win the cup this year, and I think Holland is going to keep the core of this team for kick and the Cup in 08. Retooling the whole team behind Forsberg and Smyth and dropping Datsyuk would certainly be a risk that very few, if any, GM's would think of. As for Forsberg, i'd rather have a guy who plays 82 games with 90 points (Pavel) in my lineup than an aging star who scores 30pts in the 20 games he ends up playing all year because of 'injuries'. Besides, we have plenty of great youth coming up through the system on defense. Kronwall will be a top pairing defenseman within a year or 2, and Quincey and Lebda have the potential to be 3-4 d-men.

'bout time we got an official thread for this. Im usually a big fan of new jerseys or old teams changing to tacky sweaters, but truthfully I am pissing my pants with excitement over these new ones. Its just fun to see them all. P.S. only one i am disapointed about is Boston...I'll be upset if they lose the classic 'B'.

I think Lids passed Bourque years ago on the list of best defensemen. Bourque's last 4 or 5 years were riddled with giveaways and soft play. Its not just cause he played for the Avs, but i personally think he was one of the most overrated defensemen in the last 20 years. He was good, maybe great offensively, but Lidstrom is easily better defensively and overall. Orr Harvey Coffey Lidstrom Thats my top 4.

I thought the WHOLE league was changing over to the new style jerseys? I dont think every team will change there Logo, for the most part im getting the sense that it will just be the tighter fitting jerseys with many of the same crests, as we see here in the Flames jersey. Im really curious to see what the Wings do..will they use the Vertical stripes instead of the horizontals too? Nevertheless, im buying a Zetterberg jersey at the start of next season - hope they look good.

Im not too hot on the idea...and its not cause i hate change in hockey, im a supporter of the 'new' NHL. Getting rid of 2 line passes is enough, if they eliminate offsides, we will have guys like Jagr cherry picking for 60 mins.

As much as i'd like to see another Canadian team, i think people are getting ahead of themselves here. If Mr. Blackberry buys the team, it doesnt mean he CAN move them. There would be a long process of voting among the Board of Execs. and Bettman would never stand for the team leaving Nashville for a Canadian city. I truly think Bettman's ultimate goal is to move every team out of Canada except the Leafs and the Canadians. He thinks the market in places like Edmonton and Calgary are too small. Thats why i cant stand the f*cking guy. If he had his way, the Cup would be won by the Rangers every year.

I would rather gargle with bees then watch any three of those guys in a wings uni next year. 2/3 are completely washed up, and the last one, Lupul is an unmotivated underachiever. I watched him struggle all year here in Edmonton. The only reason he is still around is because he has family in the investors group who own the Oilers.

Personally id like to see the Wings stay away from the fancy Euro wingers. We have Dats and Hank, they are skilled enough and showed they can carry the team. What the Wings need are more Dan Cleary type players. Guys who go out every night and compete hard - unfortunately ( and i hate to say it ) but Europeans tend to have motivation problems and are soft. I know it might get me in s*** but I'd really like the Wings to grab a couple of hardworking Canadian boys. Sydor or Sopel, amybe even Rivet on Defense, Peca, Smyth(though i think its a stretch to get him) up front, WHILE holding on to Bertuzzi or Calder. Im aware the Wings arent going to get all of these guys, but one out of each position would be nice. Here is what i think the roster may look like next year.. ? indicate my predicted salaries...So there are alot of ifs. Zetterberg (2.7) - Datsyuk (6.7) - Holmstrom (2.25) Samuelsson (1.2) - Hudler (0.6?) - Filpulla (0.9?) Calder (2.3?) - Franzen(0.9) - Bertuzzi (3.5?) Maltby(0.883) - Draper (2.129) - Cleary (0.675) Lidstrom (7.6) - Lilja (1.0) Sopel (2.7?) - Chelios (0.85) Kronwall (1.5) - Quincey (0.535) Lebda (0.55) Osgood (0.8) Howard (0.85) + Ericsson @ .475 McGrath @ .650 + Bootland @ .475? Meech @ .450? =43.172 leaves 1.828 under a 45 million dollar cap ( i think thats the expected cap...) Now if you subtract Bertuzzi and add Smyth on a contract for 5.3....that could be tempting. I know i obviously am missing some costs of some minor league UFAs they MAY bring back...but i figure its got to be close to this. Goaltending could be a problem but we've got to get Howard in there SOMETIME...and this being the last year we have Osgood, a GREAT backup, under contract as a back fall if Howard stumbles. While defense may LOOK weak, i think a Sopel, Sydor, Rivet could all help. Schnieder will be a big loss as will Markov, but i think we have some guys - Lilja, Lebda, and in particular Quincey who really impressed me, who can step up and its time for them to get some time. EDIT: realized i left out Griggy...he will fit in under that 1.828 if Bertuzzi signs for under 3.5 Also Kopecky. To tell you the truth, i am REALLY not big on this guy. Did not impress me one bit in the reg. season and was just plain awful when he was called in for the Playoffs. Dude...did you forget we missed the whole 2005 season trying to work out a SALARY CAP!? How they HELL are we going to afford Gomez and Drury, both of whom will command salaries of 4+mill and 5+mill?

I'm sure you all saw it. After Cheechoo's goal, someone tossed a dead shark onto the ice in the shark tank. What were your reactions? It seemed a little silly/ironic to toss a dead symbol of your team on the ice...dont ya' think? I guess they dont know the history behind the octopus. Seeing how the game turned out, i doubt we will see that one again. If anyone has any pics - post them, i'd like to see a close up of that thing.

For some reason i kind of want Peca. Him and Sydor would be nice, realistic additions.

Haha, ive got a team in my Ball Hockey league who has those jerseys in Black and they are called the Penguins. Its HILARIOUS seeing them play, all looking like they are about to attend a formal.

Watched him play all year here in Edmonton, and there is not one single player i was more frustrated with. He seemed lazy and uninterested. To me thats the LAST thing the Wings need, someone who needs to work on there determination.

Common! We are hardened Wings fans. We've been through a bunch of first round upsets, finals we SHOULD have won, and 50+ years of not winning the cup before 97. This isnt so bad in the whole scheme of things is it? They showed us alot more heart then many other Wings teams in the last 5 years. Im happy with the effort, upset with the outcome, but not totally down. No one can tease us for being Wings fans now. No longer are we 1st round chokers. We didnt have to live up to anything and we went out hard, better then 95% of the rest of the league.

He shook the hands of all the coaching staff. I think Chelios lost respect for some of the Ducks players during the series and was upset - cant blame him for that. I dont think its that big of a deal.

Aw, dont be so upset! Its not all bad. The Wings went down fighting and no one can take that away from them. They played a good series, and any hockey fan with brains knows the series could have gone either way. Dont leave us till October - there is plenty to talk about still and we can hopefully follow the Sens to a cup win over those stinkin' Ducks. As for Bertuzzi, i think the Wings will actually make a pitch to keep him - i dont think he really wants to move around much anymore either, so i think there is a chance. Calder played great when healthy and the Wings management knows that. As for Lang, i think you may be right - its time for him and the Wings to move on. Think about next year though. Filpulla looked GREAT and I was SO impressed with Quincey after the injury to Schneider. He's gonna be in the reg. lineup next year and he will be a top 4 D man for us soon. For me there are more positives coming out of this season from the many previous years. We have a good team here, and with a couple tweeks to the roster we will find ourselves back in the finals. Look at the injuries the Wings played through. This team is great - sucks to lose but we made it farther then 27 other teams, no shame in that. The Wings WILL win another cup in the next 5 years, we have too much talent, YOUNG talent to be denied that.

Fun ride this year. Not too upset with the end result. If this is our 'rebuilding year', we are in great shape. No shame in the Wings season. Lost to a very solid team in a game which ended up being exciting, thanks to the Wings for giving us something to cheer about in the third. All in all, i'm sad the run is over 'cause its been so much fun having all the activity on the boards, but we have alot to look forward to next year. So, being from Edmonton cheering for Pronger is not an option. I'd like to see the Sens win it all.
