want to see whining? go over to calgarypuck.com . According to them, every wings player who throws a check is intending to injure and should get 20 games. Its ludicrous over there. I would have given McLennan a couple games, and i would have given Langkow a single game. Iginla got his punishment in the form of PIM's and embarrassment, no suspension needed, not even close. Thats how i see it.

Ive been listening to Cherry for the last 16 years and ive always thought he was a moron. Nobody up here in Canada wants to admit it, but the guy knows dick all about hockey, and like someone said up there, he is borderline racist.
-
I wouldnt call it idiotic. It makes sense, i think it has to do with playing styles. Both Edmonton and Calgary play this simple game, more of a dump and chase in the offensive zone, and a defensive tactic of keeping everything to the outside. In that sense its a style match up that works in the flames, or oilers like last year, favor. While the wings try and dipsy doodle around everyone, the flames hit hard, win little battles, and dont sit back. The wings were playing a similar style the first two games, but seem to have fallen back into this puck possession play now. They can obviously play better, and i think they will.

i agree, get Holmstrom off the first line. He is good in front of the net, but other then that, he lacks the skill to play with those two.
-
I would put the blame on Lids too, but he has saved so many games for us it doesnt even matter. I dont hold it against him, you cant be on EVERY night. Plus the wings had 10 minutes to tie and they didnt muster much.

The Flames played alot better at home tonight, but if this is the best they have - the wings have them in 5. They barely squeeked out a win on home ice. Dom was not as sharp as he could have been, the Wings seemed to sit back a bit, and I NEVER blame a loss on the refs, but they certainly helped out the Flames tonight on a couple of VERY weak interference calls. I don't care who you are, if you know anything about hockey, Calder's Goaltenter Interference call was PATHETIC. Positives out of the game: Wings looked to be at about 70% Flames had the game of their ******* lives. We have one more home game then they do, and all of this talk about the flames being the best Home team in the NHL is a little jaded, seeing as the wings had 1 fewer home win then the flames, AND the wings can actually WIN ON THE ROAD, something the Flames cant seem to accomplish. "HAH. Flames not so easy to beat at home are they" You sound like a child. YEAH.... WELL, YOU CANT BEAT THE WINGS AT HOME EITHER !!! NANA At least the wings have a CHANCE at pulling off the split in Calgary tomorrow. P.S. I wonder how Dion is feeling this morning, the guy looked terrible getting up after that hit. He didnt even know were he was. Cleary, that was a DOUBLE DION! in the words of Pierre McGuire.

Last year at this time eveyone HATED me for cheering for the wings. Now, since everyone here in Edmonton hates the Flames even more - i get comments on my Wings jersey all the time. I just think its funny how last year Edmontonians hated the Wings and this year, everyone is rooting for them. It was probably the same way in Calgary last year.
-
Yeah i was going to mention that the only opposition i get is from Bandwagoner Oiler fans who jump on the Flames bus. But i just shut them down because they are pathetic. I dont see how you can violently hate a team during the regular season, and then all of a sudden start cheering for them because they have somehow transformed into "Alberta's Team". Give me a friggin' break. Show some devotion to your team.

I say he gives it to one of the following three. Zetterberg - Cause he has never won a cup Datsyuk - Cause he will have to be GREAT for the wings to win or Babcock - Cause he will be the real reason the wings win the cup. Yzerman has raised it three times already, he wont WANT Lidstrom to give it to him first. And we have already been through the Vladdy scene (as nice as it is) before. Maybe even Chelios or Hasek. Just cause they are old.

Naw, it wasnt a sucker punch, but it was a gutless punch. Clowe was clearly going after Hartnell, and Tootoo got two cheap shots on him before Clowe even looked at him. Obviously it was a mistake and just made Clowe even angrier - cuase he beat Tootoo down.
-
i am impressed.

Did Trotz throw Hartnell into a pool of sharks?

Tootoo DID get his ass beat down last night, and boy - did he deserve it. The kid has no respect AND no skill. He shouldnt even be in the NHL. He started punching Clowe in the face to initiate that fight last night, and Clowe was trying to fight Hartnell, he wasnt even paying attention to Tootoo. It was nice to Clowe beat him down despite getting a couple sucker punches at the beginning. GO SHARKS. -
Non-Michigan fans: How did you become a Wings fan?
Yzerfan1999 replied to Chaldean's topic in General
i lived in Boston Mass. till i was six. Then i moved up here to Edmonton and got my first hockey stick - it was a Louisville Yzerman Pro-Glo (Straight Blade i may add). I asked my dad who this Yzerman guy was, and he told me how he was the captian of the Red Wings and that he was pretty darn good. That was in 1991 and ive been die hard ever since. Even went to Game 6 here in edmonton last year and saw Yzermans last game, and then he retired on my 21st birthday July 3, 2007. Pretty crazy huh? Weird how stuff like that works out. Just for the record i WAS born in Edmonton, but lived in Boston from the time i was 3 months till i was 6 - my dad went to school there. So being canadian and having my dad as a hockey fan helped, but he was an Oilers/Habs fan. I must add ive been through alot as a wings fan. The 1st round defeat in 94 to San Jose.. I remember sitting in the bathtub when i was 10 after detroit had lost game 3 to New Jersey in the finals and crying my face off... then the loss to the avs, followed by the 2 cups etc. I was known all through my school years as the kid who was in LOVE with the Wings. My teachers would bug me when the Oilers stole a game from the Wings from time to time.. In high school people would try to scare me in the mornings by trying to convince me the Red Wings plane had crashed haha, never bought into that stuff, and all of my friends are reminded of me when they see the Wings on TV, or hear something new about Steve Yzerman. I was even in the Edmonton Journal last year (in large part thanks to Matt) for being a Wings fan in Edmonton during the playoffs. I could scrounge up the article link if anyone wants to see... Anyways...thats my story. -
If your going with the leafs, ill go with the Oilers. But seriously, i'll go for Detroit or Anaheim out of the West and Buffalo or Ottawa from the east.

Anyone up for a online beard growing competition? We can post pictures!

Oh, i dont doubt he would have made 7-8 million in free agency this summer. I am pissed about the length of the contract. My point is he will STILL be making too much in 7 years. I dont understand WHY holland would give a guy a seven year contract, who has 3 goals in 43 playoff games. the guy is absolutely invisible in the playoffs. The money could be spent on MUCH better free agents this summer, and down the road. PREDICTION: by the 2010-12 season Datsyuk will be getting point totally similar to Robert Lang. sweet.
-
MISTAKE. I would not have signed him for that long, and i am REALLY suprised Holland would do this. Now we are stuck with a guy who cant score a playoff goal for seven years. I would have given him 3 years for 15mill, no more. Uhg, i am actually so disapointed right now, just think - If Datsyuks production tails off, which it probably will in 2-3 years, we are stuck with him and NO ONE will pick a 6+ million dollar per year contract. I am sorry i just dont see the long term benefit if this move. Datsyuk is good, not great and 7 years is TOO LONG!
-
I would take Savard over Dats anyday. Who cares if he hasnt played any games in the playoffs, Dats has and hasnt done ANYTHING, he cant take the pressure or the physical play that comes with the playoffs. If he doesnt play well this spring, i say cut him loose - he would fit well in Wash. with Ovechkin, then he would never have to worry about the playoffs anyways.

Props to Babcock for calling Dom out. Calgary is a stingy defensive team, and Hasek's dumbass dive ended up costing the Wings the game. Hasek is veteran and should know better, firstly it is a ******* embarrassment to the team when a player dives like that. Secondly, it was not even close to being a penalty. I watched the game on Tuesday and Hasek's play disgusted me. Babcock is a great coach and he is just what the wings need, someone who wont stand for bulls*** no matter how many cups and trophies you have on your resume. Whether or not Hasek helps the wings to a cup this year, i pray that disease is gone next year. Time to bring in someone else.

How in the HELL can you put Makarov, Fetisov, and Stastny in that list and exclude players like Messier, Coffey and Hull???
-
I like the comparison, but Malkin will get it. they wont shut great pens rookies out two years in a row will they??
-
I remember this from when i was 12 watching the wings win there second cup. This song epitomized the playoffs for me, and i looked forward to CBC playing it every spring. I dont know why they stopped. Anyways, enjoy - i sure did.

Any kid can stand there for hours and practice his ballet moves with a stick in his hand, over and over...it doesnt mean it will transfer into a good hockey player - i wouldnt be conviced until i saw him pull that stuff in a game, which he wouldnt be able to do.

the link works, but i dont know were on the page to d/l it from??
