I put my car flag up on game days ONLY. I used to have a lucky Yzerman coca cola coin that I held in my hand during games back in 2002 when Canada won Gold and the Wings won the Cup, but Detroit won in 08 without me having it so I don't bother with it anymore. Honestly though, the more the years pass the more I realize that my superstitions have nothing to do with the Wings winning or losing. Haha. As for the playoff beard, I only shave after a loss. Reminded me.... After each game the Wings have WON in the playoffs for the last two years I put a picture of my player of the game as my facebook profile pic. The picture was always taken from yahoo.ca sports and it was always of the player during that game. No old pics.

To be honest, I don't hear much of what the guy says since I live in Canada and I only read the occasional article. Two guys that come to mind who ALWAYS give the Red Wings respect are TSN's Bob McKenzie and Ray Ferraro. McKenzie is always saying the Wings will be in the finals ( i know, not hard to guess), even at the beginning of this season, when things didn't look good for Detroit, he still knew they would come around. Ray Ferraro also seems to have a lot of respect for the Wings, when many other guys seems to hate them because of their continued success. To me, these two guys always seem to get it right when they are assessing the Wings. Respect for the players and the system because of what they have done over the last 15-20 years.

THIS. Draper's contract coming to an end, and Lidstrom most likely only resigning for 1 year beyond this one, the Wings will have some cap space to work with Howard. My guess is he gets a 4-5 year contract averaging 3-3.5 per season.

I think Myers will get it. There has been so much media hype for the guy all year, that it would be weird for him NOT to win. Not saying he isnt a great player, but at the same time I dont think Howard is getting much credit. Mason's win last year had a lot to do with his SO, IMO and I think thats the one blemish on Howards record. My guess for Calder voting is 1. Myers 2. Howard 3. Duchene

Special teams have been really really good. I think the Wings PK especially has been amazing, they are really on a role and I think Lilja has something to do with that...

I like the 8 game suspension - I DONT like the lack of consistency. I cant believe that Gonchar hit when unpunished, and someone mentioned the Torres hit on Helm in buffalo the other night that went unpunished as well. Torres' game revolves around head hunting - I can't believe nobody put up a stink over that.

Check this out - Downie puts some kind of leg hold on our hero Sidney Crosby. Strange play, everyone put aside your Crosby rage for a second and judge the play by Downie. Looks like intent to injure, and based on Downie's past actions, I have no doubt he was trying to take the guy out. Ouch

In all fairness guys, watch the last replay - his knee is bent the other way. We all probably would have had a similar reaction.

Yah, I don't think he meant to fall on top of his knee there, but there was definitely some attempt to slew foot Crosby with that leg-behind-the-knee move. Either way, the kid has done some strange and dirty things in his young NHL career...add this to the list.

I think safety is a huge part of it, but its also part of the integrity of the game. The goal is to propel the puck into the net using your hockey stick. Sure deflections and weird bounces off part of the body count (see Miller's goal tonight), but propelling the puck into the net with your foot defeats that purpose. Its the same reason why you can't throw the puck in the net. Its hockey, not soccer or baseball.

Valid points, but I still think Parise would have made it. That kid is lights out. He's been one of the leagues top 10 best players for the last 3 years. Brown does have guys like Morrow and Doan who are very similar players, he is just younger, but overall you're probably right.

Fair enough, that being said - you were the one who turned this thread into something it was not. Facts are, not many American team members would have made Team Canada. Parise, Miller, maybe Brown or Ryan. In light of that, its impressive they got to the Gold medal game against Canada, with a better record and took them to OT.

You act like our confidence was ruined for the first time. Look, we lost the WJHC, we got Silver at the last World Championships, and 7th in the last Olympics. Canadians expect Team Canada to win, yes - and we WISH they would dominate, but we all know they wont. We have been dealt enough confidence blowing defeats over the last couple decades to realize that its crazy to expect Canada to roll over everyone, the tight 1972 Summit Series was the start of that, and that was 30 years ago. You just sound like someone who is bitter and trying to make up for it anyway you can by saying Canadians are being bullies now. Relax, its over. Congrats on the silver medal - it was more than anyone expected, so props.

I know my sig. quote - this thread was simply asking how many of the American players would have made Team Canada. If anything, it should boost your confidence because they beat them once and took them to overtime in the gold medal game, yet 3/4's of them wouldn't have made Team Canada. You just took it the wrong way because your still bitter over the loss. Don't blame you for that, but your making more out of the post than the OP intended.

? Thats like claiming because the Hawks beat the Wings during the regular season series, yet the Wings beat them in the playoffs, they are equal. Sure that 5-2 win by the States during the round robin was huge for you guys, it was a meaningless in the big picture. In fact that extra game was exactly what Canada needed. Then Canada won when it counted.
