I don't think so either.

Hannah & Torres > Murray & Clowe?

I'm aware. He has two more years on his contract. Rangers might do something with Asham in the off-season.
-
Wings might have been able to get Gabby, but IMO Minn gave up more than I would want the Wings to give up.
-
Rangers have needed someone willing to drop the mitts more. They're back to being very gritty/tough.
-
Tootoo instead of Abby because of fighting.

Them having a chance to win the cup this season, without giving up assets, is worth it to me. You might disagree, but I think any team that makes the playoffs does have a chance to win the cup. If a second round pick (or two) and a C prospect is going to determine the future of the Wings, their future is already bad. I wouldn't mind trading Flip, by himself or in a package, if the return was right. IMO two seconds isn't worth risking the playoffs this season. Nyquist is listed as a C on some websites- does anyone know if he has every played C in GR?

For those without NHL Network in the US, SportsNet is streaming their coverage on sportsnet.ca.

Based on the trades this week, I think he could get the Wings at most two 2nds, or a 1st and a C prospect. If that would be the return, I would rather the Wings make a run for the playoffs. Regardless of the Wings' chances in the playoffs, seeing Holland and Co. make an extra draft pick or two this year is not enough for me to want the Wings to give up on the season.

Who will play second line center if Z is still injured and Flip is traded? The Wings are still in a playoff position, and trading Flip without a healthy Z would be terrible.
-
If the Wings' goal is to win the cup every year, they should worry about what might be a problem 8-9 years down the road. The moves made this year by other teams would sacrifice success in the future (picks and prospects) for little gain this year if the Wings had any of them. There are trades where the Wings could give up picks and/or prospects for a greater chance of winning this year and in the future, but none of the players who could do this have been traded yet.

An interesting point about our apparent deadline strategy

Many posters on this forum seem to think that anyone is available to be traded for, and there is a market for anyone the Wings would want to trade away. This isn't the case. When evaluating Holland not making a move, you have to look at the players moved and consider if the Wings should have made a similar offer for that player. So far, none of the trades would have elevated the Wings this season, or helped the team immensely next season. Further, White and/or Cola being expendable does not mean other teams want to give up assets for them. Most teams have enough 5th/6th/7th D in their system that can fill-in if needed, and the only defensemen traded this week were better than White and Cola (size and grit for Regehr and Murray, and skill for J Bo). What contenders have defenses that would be greatly improved by trading for White or Cola? For Flip, what do the Wings do at center if Z is injured more than a few days? -
MacDermid has already played a few NHL games. With S. Thornton on the decline, I expected Macdermid to take his place after next season. Payne is another tough player, but with a little more skill, that could be a 3rd/4th liner. They aren't great prospects, but there aren't many players that can fight, skate, and chip in offensively in the NHL.

And which of Nyquist, Tatar, Sproul, 1st round pick, etc. will the Wings be adding to the trade (and likely more)? It would take more than E to get the trade done.
-
How many of the trades made would you want the Wings to make? I like Regehr, but I don't see how he would fit with the current D. Other than that trade, I don't think any of the trades made would have been the difference for the Wings this year, next year, etc. If Clowe and/or Gabby are traded for reasonable prices, it will be different IMO. Making a move for the sake of making a move isn't what the Wings need. A move should only be made if it improves the team this year and in the coming years.

Both he and Brunner had been frustrating the past few games in shooting strength. -

Some sites list Nyquist as a center. Has he ever played center in GR? -

It'll be like that next year too. The fighters in the east are generally much bigger than Tootoo.
