trade Red Wings acquire Erik Cole, conditional 3rd from Stars
WorkingOvertime replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Not excited about this trade- I don't see Cole making a big difference moving forward. -
I don't think the NHL intends to crack down on that. If the Wings don't like it, they will have to respond physically and/or on the scoreboard.

Zetterberg leaves after 2nd Period; "upper body injury"
WorkingOvertime replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
That type of play seems to happen every game. The outcome here is unfortunate, but I don't think there is any/much precedent for suspension. -

How do you remove fighting? Make it a one game suspension? Will that deter players from trying to get others to fight? I doubt the Flyers would care if Rinaldo was suspended one game for getting (almost) any player for the other team off the ice for a game during the playoffs. IMO heavier penalties for dangerous hits will lead to a decrease in hitting at the NHL level. Even 'clean' hits can become dirty if the other player unexpectedly moves, and there is a margin of error with any big hit. The Wings are a good example of the decrease in 'big hits' over the past few seasons. Good hockey is still good hockey without fighting or hitting. College games are exciting, and the women's USA v. Canada games are as intense as any game with checking. Personally, I like the NHL because it is the most physical form of hockey (at least good hockey) with the best players in the world. I wouldn't stop watching or following the NHL if hitting and fighting were eliminated, but I would watch less NHL and more college, minor, etc. -

The wheels were off the bus...how is someone expected to react when the wheels are off the bus?

Two Hearted is one of my favorites, but I've been having it less lately since Bells 6-packs are going for $10+ here. Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Hoppy Lager- a collaboration with Ballast Point- is an excellent limited edition beer that tastes as you would expect given the name. Sculpin IPA from Ballast Point is very good as well.

Pittsburgh/Philly might be the best rivalry in the game now
WorkingOvertime replied to frankgrimes's topic in General
I've been watching fewer non-Wings games the past few seasons due to the deterioration of rivalries. The competition level is very high, but the hatred level is low. -
Should Weber have let Cooke spear or cross-check him in the face a second time? The Wild play the Predators on Feb 26, let me know if Cooke does that to Weber again.

How do you define a staged fight? Was S. Thornton v. Cooke staged? Was Getzlaf v. J. Thornton in game 6 of the WCQF staged? IMO there needs to be more team toughness in the NHL and fewer enforcers. It happened yesterday.
