My favorite quote was in the SCF in 2002, Datsyuk's rookie year. I remember that season and even though he got knocked off the puck a lot, you would watch his moves, turns, passes and say, "Where the hell did they find this kid!!!." During the triple OT, first OT, Datsyuk deked the living crap out of 3 Canes only to just fail getting the puck high enough to beat the goalie. The announcers called it "Gretsky-esque moves." It was unbelievable and had he scored... Any way, the announcers commented that Aaron Ward (then a Cane) said earlier in some interview that of all the Wings, and this includes Federov, Larinov, Yzerman, Shannahan, Hull and Lidstrom, that of all the Wings the absolute last one he would ever want to face one on one was Pavel Datsyuk. I think that says a lot. This rookie was scrambling the D's mind from day one. The announcers went on to talk about how Datsyuk would probably become a great player.

Think about it, that kid probably has a stain on his record and is being watched like a hawk at school. Just dumb dumb dumb. Not a thing to joke about and NOT free speech.

Absolutely agree and noticed the same. Seems like any other sport or game not having your best player would be called out repeatedly. Babs is right - could you imagine the commentators and papers if Malkin or Crosby were out? Well, now they are at least getting the story. Chalk it up to simple Penn young star obsession. It is all that is focused on. Let's hope the Dats angle is beyond obvious in game 6!!!!

Yes, it is so true. Players who lose it in a loss lose it overall. This is the third time we have seen this - Ducks, Hawks and now Penns. Coaches who whine to the press instead of concentrating on their team end up on summer vacation. That is about all the Penns have going for them now in the class area - a non whiney coach. You would think people would get all this, but getting it is a bigger deal than we often imagine. Kudos to the Wings for having an entire organization that takes pride in every aspect of the team.

Of all the things in this game that line was awesome. Serious, serious offensive pressure, great and smart play in our end. They just have it all. Staying with this line is an absolute 100% no brainier and anything else to start game 6 is foolish. Sorry Homer, but the twins, in this series, need a third line mate with hands, grit, a shot, can skate.. Cleary is the man for the job. Sorry Hossa, no Dats for you. Besides, you have a Dats junior with Flip and can't you figure it yet out that he will make you a star? P.S. Can you imagine being Cleary and having Babs tell you that you are playing with Hank and Pavel. Man, that is some serious respect and trust. Cleary came through - game winning goal!

Bysy totally punted when a reporter asked him about the emotional meltdown at 3-0. Reporter basically says, "Is there anything you can do..." I would have said it blunter. "Do you have any control over these kids or do their paychecks overrule you on the bench?" What Malkin and Crosby need is an ass reaming (not the ones they give each other on the road every night all season), but nobody probably has the guts.
