I could not agree more. Hossa seems to have no interest in making his line work and instead is trying to be a single handed scoring machine who is failing miserably. I can't count how many times he took some low percentage shot while Datsyuk was relatively open. I can't count how many times he took the puck in and held on to it while Datsyuk was there as well, and then had it poke checked away. Meanwhile Homer is a joke these days. He can't even take the puck in- and you might ask why the hell is he even trying? He is doing nothing and even Babcock said in the press the other day that on other teams most guys playing like he did wouldn't even be on the bench. Given that comment why the hell did we seem him playing so much with Datsyuk yesterday? That we can win a 7 game series with this ill advised lines is amazing. Probably part of the problem in really recognizing and adjusting. As for Dats, he continues to try and make plays to these guys. Yesterday he was almost like the shy timid pass pass pass Pavel of old. That needs to go away. Instead of passing so often or fail with his amazing wrister (I love that shot of his) I'd like to see him just go balls out into the net a few times. Even if there are two guys there he can make things happen like nobody else.

I'm sorry, but people gotta open their ears. The NBC announcers have been praising the Wings like it was Colorado in 1999. If you had a drinking game based on some comment about the Wings dominance, expertise, skill, depth, coaching, speed... you could have a frat boy on pledge night be your designated driver.

Absolutely! Many times it is hilarious. I suppose it takes a little thought to figure it out.

To the OP I think there should be no DH in any line until they get out of their respective funks. I also think they won't get out of their slumps together. However, I want no more Hossa punk hogging if he is playing with Franzen. It seems a waste of a good mule.

Read a terrifying line in the paper today (AP feed in many papers today I think). Scotty Bowman will be advising Quenneville and the Hawks on the Red Wings players. He knows many of them. I just posted on this thought somewhere else, but this is scary and kind of neat in raising the tension a bit, so I thought it would be okay to make a thread out of it. Bowman is the greatest hockey mind of all time and he probably knows the Wings better than anyone second to Babcock. You can bet your a$$ he has kept up on every aspect of the game since he retired (he is known for studying every game, team, player in the league). Does he have knowledge that could make our lives miserable? If he does, will Quenneville listen to him or half listen to him? Will Babcock be able to respond or outthink and outmaneuver any Bowman induced strategies? I think the answer is we can prevail, even pitted against the greatest coach of all time back seat driving the Hawks. If someone thinks Bowman will not be a factor, I would respectfully disagree. As to what level he will be a factor I do not know. Whatdaythink?

This guy is a great writer and I enjoyed all his articles through the series. When have we in Detroit seen such a lack of homerism like this? Hopefully no need to in the near future. :-) Seriously, he is funny and contemporary, but in many ways an old school sports writer.

This is good news for both Homer and Datsyuk and Hossa. The latter two need a new line mate - duh. Speed, aggression and anything to take some attention and focus off them to open things up. Homer has not been that guy. I still admire him as a fan, but this should have happened many games ago.

Aw come on guys. This makes for a great drama, intrigue, suspense... "Bowman the secret architect of strategy to dismantle Wings. The man who created the Wings puck possession style of play that has so dominated the league is now feeding info on the Achilles Heel of the Wings dynasty..." You know, he also advised Babcock a bit. To his credit, Bowman knows his place and probably is not a significant factor, but holy cow, if I was a coach and had his ear, you can bet I would jump on any pearls of wisdom he is sure to drop here and there.

I sure would like to see Leino play, but too many people say he is weak on D. Honestly, I don't know. He seemed to busy scoring on every line to even have a chance to play any D. The broader answer is we will NEVER have our lines locked up and if we act like we do we are doomed. Just who will be whispering in Quenneville's ear every night? Scotty Fricking Bowman, that's who!!! It was in the news today, he is helping them understand our players (he knows most of them). This is a wakeup call. Babcock will have to continue to outmaneuver the Hawks with our roster and adjust our strategy not just every game, but within games and periods. He has more to work with than the Hawks and that is our advantage. He hesitated with this kind of thinking (eg coaching vs. hoping things will change) with the Ducks and it took us to the brink. Against the mind of Scotty he can't afford to act this way. However, the only plus side is Quenneville might strut a little independence and not take all Bowman's advice. He would be a fool to do so, but it could happen. Kane and Towes may be the face of this team, but I see a large transparent head floating over the ice watching it all and that head belongs to the greatest coach of all time. Still, I think Babs and the Wings are up to this, I really do. But they have to be smart.

Holy Cow, I had no idea this sort of Middle Ages thinking was so prevalent. I think too many people have a terribly misguided idea on their status of themselves or their actions in the daily outcomes of the universe. Why not take it further? Just who was it who stepped on all those sidewalk cracks causing the crisis with the auto companies? Or was it a few workers on the GM line trash talking Toyota that caused this? Who walked under a few ladders causing the banking crisis? Silly, just silly. However, out of respect for the primitive minded majority I herby renounce this thread. All my psychic energy is now focused on the Hawks. I will burn red incense (if I can find any), recite the retired numbers of Wings greats 100 times, wear my Wings jersey to bed every night, buy a new puppy and name it Pavel, create an alter on my porch...

I'm sorry, but I am going to be a little arrogant here to start. Will it come back to bite me? I'll take that chance. I mean, if you are a fan of the most winning team in any sport, why not strut it a little? After we beat Chicago in 5 (6 tops) we face a Cup finals with a former Cup Finals foe - a former defeated foe. Of course it is less recent with the Canes and they have won a Cup since (probably because we weren't around to spoil it for them). Of the two the Penns have me nervous. They are going to be balls the wall out to win and they have a truck load of lessons learned. Nobody will match their hunger in the finals. We better come close. Anyone remember that first regular season rematch with the 7-6 come from behind game? It was probably the most intense amazing game of the regular season (and we lost it). The players will of course focus on the Hawks right now, but looking ahead, it is heavy odds on that we will have a rematch with the Penns. That is going to be amazing. When has this ever happened before? I can't remember, and I can't wait (obviously). :-)

The think about a true rivalry is if you have to talk about it, then it probably isn't one. There was simply no doubt that once Claude took out Draper with that boarding, then smarted off to the press while celebrating his conference final win that was it. These things don't come around very often and they simply cannot be manufactured in the press. The Wings-AVs rivalry was the most intense of our era because it came from the players and the teams. To think, if he had just said, "I'm sorry, I hope he is okay" we might have missed out on 50% of the intensity. Another thing. When you play your true rival, you have fear. You don't know you are going to win. You have doubts and it is a nail biting experience, but it is the absolute best when you do win. That is what I felt when we played the Avs - "Man is this going to be awesome, but holy crap, we could lose because these guys are dangerous!" Give all this, the Ducks are the closest thing we have to a rival, but comparing them to the Avs rival is like saying both G.W. Bush and Abraham Lincoln were Republicans. It's not even close.

Ducks GM Bob Murray accused of cross-checking fan
Stiffy replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Yes, the VS guys put up the text of the rule as well and it made a lot of sense. All these comments from players and fans are really quite ignorant and off base. This wasn't a bad call. So, to be swinging around a chair and hitting woman bystanders is even more inexcusable and despicable. Honestly, could you ever in your like imagine a story like this regarding Holland, let alone Yzerman or Devellano? It is unthinkable. Like dysfunctional families, this kid of thing starts at home with the parents. -

The risk is they keep this up or the risk is they lay off and the Ducks get away with murder. They established nothing but inconsistency in what to expect. If this game comes down to a bad call or non call, it just isn't right for either team, the players, the fans or the game. I wonder if they get to watch some TV during the break? They should. They can see just how bad of a job they did.- 1,913 replies

I want it to be noted Datsyuk gave a perfect feed to Sammy despite being leveled into the boards. That HAD to give him confidence and us. It did me.- 1,913 replies

I think the refs are confused and think "Game 7" means there needs to be only 7 players on the ice.- 1,913 replies
