    Jimmy Howard

Maybe he develops, maybe he doesn't, but damn it, when some other team has a young goalie who steps up huge and is a natural without all the incubation time, permit driving and baby sitting, it is fun to watch. Why can't we ever be like Columbus or Carolina in the young goalie department, just once.

    Forseberg with new comeback attempt?

You know, people might make fun of you for saying that, but watch some old clips people, Boyd hustled his ass off on that line, I mean, the guy played with no hesitation and 100% effort. I would have given blood for more of that kind of heart in the SCF this year. His job was to go in the corners, along the boards, in front of the net and fight for the puck and he never ever stopped. That is EXACTLY the kind of guy you need on a line like that and the current version of this line with the twins. That is what Homer cannot do and someone like Cleary could do.

    Still not over it...

I can take injuries and pain and being out of gas, but I can't take unbelievable stupidity that contributes to either losing a big game or, in the curious logic demonstrated here, takes away the chance to win it. But now Brad Stuart can hang out with Jason Williams, another proven big game moron. Champions grow up dreaming of big playoff and SCF games. Scoring that clutch goal, making the big save or play. These two must have somehow skipped that part of growing up and dreamt about taking that stupid ass penalty that took the foot off the gas...

    TOMAS HOLMSTROM APPRECIATION THREAD

Wow, so many homerisms here. Seriously, they called Chelios a "warrior", but Homer certainly fits that description.

    New Money Woes for McCarty

There is something between love and hate - recognizing a loser. Anyone who blows an amount of money that could serve him and his family for life is simply a loser. As a player, sure he was great for us so many times. As a man, father, husband - total loser.

    Hudler is a "LOSER". Literally

Yes and no. Who snitched on the hooker story - the old GF? Hmmmm, that would be a Unsportswomanlike Conduct indeed.

    Hudler is a "LOSER". Literally

Too darn funny. Good one. However, do hookers count as "scoring"? Some of you single guys are missing the obvious here. His super hot girlfriend is now available. Get to work!
  8. Overall I am not thrilled with picking up guys we had before. Williams and Bertuzzi are not my idea of a fresh new approach. Neither showed the kind of post season hustle and heart that makes guys like Cleary, Helm, Osgood and a few others so valuable. Come to think of it, both played key roles in screwing us in the playoffs.

    Patrick Kane Arrested

Come on you guys. When a young Stevie Yzerman made similar youthful indiscretions we all... oh wait, he NEVER did! Some great players are great leaders and some are just immature punks.

    Yzerman or Lidstrom

While we are at it, could someone answer me this? In terms of their impact on the world and humanity, who was the greatest monster of all time. Godzilla or Gamera?

    We're going to be fine

Exactly and that with injuries is what did us in this past year. It was ours if we wanted it and obviously we all didn't want it enough. Whatever it is, you know it when you see it. I want guys like Cleary, Flip, Hank, Helm and Osgood. Guys who show up in the playoffs like it is the end of the world and there is nothing, absolutely nothing, to be left on the ice. God, now I am getting disgusted with the whole thing all over. We blew it.

Jason Williams Offered 1 Year Contract

Oh God, say it aint so. He cost us a WCF game and possibly series. I might forgive Stuart, but never this guy.

Red Wings game on NHL Network right now

Better than that, they had a special on the 97 SCF with Philly. Now THAT brightened my summer viewing.

Grier Could Bring Some Diversity to Hockeytown

Gee, in that fantastic movie, "Four Brothers" they showed all the black kids in Detroit out on the street for a game of pick up hockey!!! God, that was simply an awful movie. Detroit wouldn't let them film it here because it was so down on Detroit, so they went to god knows where, made it look just as bad, then called it Detroit. It was just so full of cliche's and dumb stuff. Worst Detroit movie line ever, Minnie Driver in that stupid flick Grosse Pte. Blank where she tells someone her apartment was burned down on Devil's Night. Yeah right honey. Oh well, way off topic.

    Gordie Howe/Ted Lindsay Rift

I read somewhere it was from Ted making a joke or just a comment about Howe's wife. Ted thought she was being a little bossy about something and made a comment. Gordie was not happy about it. Anyone else hear/read this? It was in a book of Red wing history - darn, I gave it to a friend.

    Abdelkader

I really don't understand this. I think scoring two SCF goals shows the kid is more than ready. If not, at least he showed us something plenty of others on the roster didn't. True, less ice time in the big leagues to start, but he can use that time to earn a higher spot - maybe? This is what bothered me about the Wings last season - a little too much resting on seniority and not enough based on merit. I'd like to see things a lot more open in terms of players being assigned ice time and lines based on *performance.* I can't think of anything more motivating to kids and the old timers alike than having to play for your job. I'm sorry, but players like Maltby, Draper and Holmstrom did little to impress last year and I think were given something of a pass. Homer had no business on top lines in the playoffs - he was not performing. I can't help but think back to Hudler who of all Wings had to prove himself to Babcock over and over a few years back - it was brutal, but the right thing to do. So, is there a better way to balance all of this? Developing young players who are somewhere in the middle ground between GR and Detroit? I think there is, but if having a few years under your belt means your job is safe no matter what is the way we play, then it won't work.

    Datsyuk up for an ESPY

It has been my experience that those who are threatened or seem offended by non English speaking people in the US are low class poorly educated and low culture and/or recently descended from low class/poorly educated low culture parents and have an irrational fear of losing their jobs to hard working immigrants. So, a description of both parties actually rhymes. On one side we have immigrants, on the other ignorants.

    88 goals, 118 assists, and 206 points

How many times do we have to live through the Holland generated action that turns the world right side up? Settle down little panicky people, things will be okay. Patience. As for those 88 goals, I seem to recall we needed them and a few more due to our awful defensive play and a bloated goals against stat.
  22. Stiffy

    Jason Williams?

I think that would do it! Just go away JW, you went away once already and it was great. Playoff chokers I can live with, but ones whose mistakes cost pivotal games? Forget it. Yes Stuart, you are on this list too,.

    Claude "Turtle" Lemieux retires

Recall McCarty quoted the bible on this one - eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. Given what Turtle did to Draper start all this and his attitude afterward, I have no problem with any of this. Think of Lemeiux's hit on Draper as Pearl Harbor and Macs pounding of him as Hiroshima. Both cheap and vicious, but who started the dirty play and who ended it? One small point. McCarty said it wasn't a blindside punch, technically he "cold cocked" him. I can live with that too. Old Claude knew he should have seen this coming and said as much. All in all, if Claude wasn't such an arrogant *******, we would never have had such a fierce rivalry and some of the best hockey ever.

    Fil's Play

Flip was fantastic in the post season and finals. What I saw was this - he was demonstrating in every possible way that he could help Hossa by being on top of his game and more than capable to make plays. For whatever reason Hossa only seemed to catch on to this once in a while and when he did, they scored. I was baffled why Hossa continued his lone effort so many times when Flip was right there almost every shift. Well Hossa is gone, so what? I think it speaks to the idea that if you get Flip the right linemates, things will happen. Like Datsyuk he can make other players better. This is starting to grow and develop. And why not, he has been a student of Dats for a while now. Flip has shown up for two post seasons and two finals in a row now, last year with a significant injury he played through like a champ (Yzerman said so and he knows more about hockey that we do). What else do you need for crying out loud?

Red Wings prepare for life w/o Hossa

What teams do these Jonas brothers play for? Are they free agents this year? Could we trade Hudler for two of them? Sounds intriguing. P.S. I think Hank is really dreamy.
