Haha. Hossa skating around at that age.... uglier than Chelios.

I once suggested a 20 year contract and have the Wings buyout the last 10 years of the contract but I did some research and found the the league can void a contract they feel is put in place to circumvent cap rules. A 20 year contract to almost anyone (let along someone who is 30 years old) would most certainly incur the wrath of the league.

Remember the rule where each years salary can only be 50% less than the previous.
-
I hope the Leafs can nab Brayden Schenn. Would really give the Leafs some identity again.
-
Facts are that large markets create tons of rumours and GMs either learn to use rumours to their advantage or they overpay for players.
-
So all the money the league makes should go to administration types 'cause the players aren't very important.

Hudler will want more money than you have allocated to his name.

Tampa is trying to Pittsburgh the league by stockpiling these sweet draft picks.
-
I don't want to be one more Hockey team sharing an arena with a basketball team. Hockey's history is disappearing.

Burke has said since day one he wont be trading draft picks for anything besides higher draft picks. I don't think he will be trading a Blue chipper and his shot at Zack Kassian or Brayden Schenn for someone that is supposedly in purgatory with coaching staff day in and day out. Kaberle will be traded either today or after July 1st. Once Boston fails to bring in a great dman before all the FAs are gobbled up they will be willing to pay a lot more for someone of Kaberle caliber.

Ottawa Sun: Wings have made lucrative long term offer to Hossa
BlakKy replied to 40#1Fan's topic in General
I'm guessing that if his cap hit is 4 million dollars the contract will be structured in a way that once he turns 36 he will be making just over a million dollars each season so the wings can buy the contract out if they so desire. -
Sophie's choice... except, you know, hockey.

Sorry for the DP... What are the rules regarding the length of contracts? Just for the sake of creating an example: Could Hossa theoretically be signed to a twenty year deal worth 60 mil in order to take a cap hit of only 3 mil? Front end load it much like Zetterberg's deal and then provided the Wings are in good financial shape they could buy the rest of his contract once his useful days are behind him. After say the first 9 years in Hossa's deal he could earn league minimum in order to make the buy out less painful. I know this isn't realistic but could this in theory be practiced?

Contracts can be bought out. And if they retire the salary comes off the books.

Don't do it! I love our boards! *sproing*

My choice is the 97 Wings. The 02 Wings were more impressive on paper then on the ice. The players were older, but it didn't stop the Western conference all-stars from winning with pure talent. The 92 Pens were great, and a 7 game series between them and the 97 Wings would probably be one of the best ever, but I'd still bet on the Wings if I had too.

Well is it not apparent that Z is being groomed for captaincy? I mean when Lids retires (may God have mercy on our souls) Zetterberg is the ideal next captain. Great presence with his team, a model player, communicates well (specifically in English as well as Swedish), and he has a nice big contract with the Wings. I'd say if any Zata haters exist they are gonna be sad for years to come when he is sporting the C all over the place.

Not quite sure where this topic belongs but... I was just wondering if anyone knows if any of the Wings use twitter. I know its getting really popular with athletes.

Checked out Havlat's. It's definitely real and pretty insightful. There are some pics of him and his dog and some pics from Prague. It's neat to see him being honest and admit that the Wings messed him up. He had to have a bunch of teeth repaired as well take some tme away from bright lights to help out his head. lol.

Yep. Usually for dealing with problems associated with injury.

Excellent research.

The Osgood response was hilarious. =)

If the league was willing to change the schedule to accommodate HDiC on New Years, make one of the Canadian games an outdoor game and then also play an American outdoor game would that be cool? We could stop referring to a specific game as 'The Winter Classic', we could just start calling the entire days worth of events the winter classic.
