In this case, I'm glad we didn't bite on Vinny ... Philly's mismanagement of things is too scary ... BRING ON THE YOUTH!!!

Report: Red Wings out on Lecavalier - signs with Philly 5@4.5 per

Stephen Weiss ... don't know anything about him ... sounds like when we signed Ray Whitney to replace Sergei ... and yes ... I realize Flip is NOT comparable to Sergei ... And what about the wing??? Bobby Ryan after next year??? Holland better do something ... WHY IN THE WORLD would you sign Datsyuk but not give him someone stable on the Wing to play with. Yeah, I understand we have players who can play on the wing who play a different natural position, but this is getting tiresome ...

2013 Stanley Cup Finals - Boston Bruins vs. Chicago Blackhawks

Someone for CBS Chicago just called Chicago Hockeytown USA ... (sigh)
  6. I never really cared for The Joe ... not very accessible ... wheelchair seating sucks ... it needs to be like Nationwide Arena where I can see the entire ice surface from above, not one side or the other ... I would love Gordie Howe Arena, but today's world makes that pretty much impossible ...

Maybe unrealistic ... maybe not ... if not Hossa, any chance Ilya Kovalchuk gets bought out? What about him?

hypothetically what would we have to trade to get the 2nd and 3rd over

Just trade Franzen, Flip's rights, and Colaiacovo for the top pick. Yep. Done deal. BAM!

    Franzen Buyout?

If Holland is talking about having Bert and Sammy back (as mentioned in other places here) I highly doubt Franzen will be bought out. I have a weird feeling that a combination of loyalty, saving face, and not having a ready replacement will prevent this. I don't know what we will do about the cap hit if he retires. I feel that Z will play his entire contract, but not Franzen ...
  11. Hey all, I know that this topic has probably been rehashed over and over, but what speculation has there been on potential amnesty buyouts from around the league? I realize that this topic may come across as simply somewhat of a pipe dream, but I am curious as to what potential opportunities the Wings have in bringing in other people. Is this viable? Was our playoff push/infusion of youth good enough to attract people to come to Detroit? Are we simply building from within through the next 2-3 years? I certainly believe that we can compete for the cup next year (and a few more if Dats stays longer or if we somehow fill the hole his potential departure creates). Thoughts?

WCSF Game 7 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Blackhawks 2 OT (CHI wins series, 4-3)

So the game starts at 8 EST? I want to make sure I don't have a moment of confusion ... I think NBCSN is trying to confuse me ...
  14. They had it in the palm of their hands and gave it away ... youth is hard to swallow ... I still think we can win, though ... so depressing ...

    97.1 The Ticket: Hocketown "Dead"?

I listen to the stream as well, being "out of town" ... I think their estimation that "Hockeytown is Dead" is based more on the problem that they have when they bring up topics surrounding the Red Wings ... if no one calls in, then there is no point in hammering the same topic ... like it or not, their job is to entertain their listeners and talk about topics that will interest their fan base ... if they bring up Titus Young or anything else and the topic catches fire, that can fill a four hour show ... they will push what works.

    Pasha's Legacy

While the speculation is fun, does not the decision come down to the owner's discretion? It would be hilariously sad if Mr. I said, "aw, hell with it," and just "un-retired" all numbers...

Not to be negative...but maybe Parise's best offer came from Detroit...and he just doesn't want to come...because it's "Detroit" and he can't stomach the town...I hope not.

Ilitches won’t renew lease with Joe Louis Arena

Man, the topic of this thread was getting me all excited. Here I thought that this meant that The Joe was a goner and that we would see a new arena within a relatively short period of time. Trying to get a new lease agreement simply tells me that we will probably still be using it for another five to 10 years. UGH! The one positive that I am taking from this story is that AT LEAST we will not be in the Joe for another 20 years. I don't care what type of retrofitting or renovations they would be willing to make every structure has its limitations. In order to "fix" the arena's shortcomings that I see, (inaccessible bathrooms, not entirely disability friendly seating, etc.) it will cost some money and take an extended period of time. Considering the fact that the majority of disabled people are certainly not making money hand over fist (giving them the opportunity to become "regular customers") I can see why there is a hesitancy to renovate some things for this purpose. Even though in my opinion such an attitude is wrong, and regardless of the fact that it is against the law to not accommodate people with disabilities as a result of the ADA (a law that has its problems as well), it is human nature, and especially in today's world, everything is centered around cost. It is very sad to me. The fact is, I wouldn't be the least bit excited until I hear that our owner is 100% committed to a new building. Still, (and I know this sounds mean) I would not be surprised if we do not get a new arena until he dies or ownership changes in a significant way. This sounds ludicrous, for sure, but I just don't see a new arena happening anytime soon.

    Future of The Joe uncertain...

When I look at a topic like this, I simply have to approach it from an accessibility standpoint for wheelchair users, being one myself. I understand the history that The Joe carries, its boards, the atmosphere, and all that. Still, for me, in front of all those good things, no matter how good they may be, accessibility is my number one issue. I have been to The Joe a handful of times for hockey games since 1999. The restroom facilities for anyone in a wheelchair (especially the bigger, motorized wheelchairs) are a joke, having little space, and urine/water on the floor that goes onto my wheels. The seating arrangement availability is not much better in my estimation, as wheelchair users are only able to sit at one end of the rink or the other. There is no place where a person in a wheelchair can see the entire ice surface without any problems. Now, if I had it my way, I would make sure that a new arena would be built in a similar fashion to Nationwide Arena. That place is awesome!!!! I can see the entire ice surface and watch the game as intensely as I do on my television. I don't care what type of deal Mr. I. gets, he has enough money to do the right thing. I cannot see them extending lease for that building for so many years. If they do eventually build a new arena, I can only hope that they would be able to give it a nice name. I know that in today's world, being driven by money and big business, that is an impossibility. Still, The Production Line Arena sounds nice to me.

Do you trade Flip in order to sign Hossa?

I really don't understand some people's thinking in regards to trading Flip in order to keep Hossa. Flip it is still very young and I think he will be much more important to us in the coming years, reaching the prime of his career. This is not to say that I would enjoy Hossa staying in a Red Wings uniform (for $3.75-4.25 M Cap Hit). Obviously, I know that something has to give, but don't feel like regurgitating any ideas that have not already been talked about on these boards. Who can replace Flip if we trade him? I'm sorry, but this team was one win away from another championship. I know that the likelihood of something like this occurring again may be slim, but every piece to the puzzle counts for something, with the last piece being the Stanley Cup. If you take one piece and replace it with another, that final piece might just not fit. I know that there are tons of ways to look at this, with everybody pulling their hair out, just looking for something to talk about until July 1, but I just don't see Holland doing anything like this in order to sign a person like Hossa, not if it means causing detriment to a team's make up in the near future or threatening future Cup runs in the long term. If this possibly means we lose Hossa, so be it. Furthermore, what if Zetterberg and Franzen to have every intention of playing until their new deals are completely over? (I know that the likelihood of this is highly unlikely but...) Do we really want to lock up Hossa for ten years and have three (possibly four) 39-40 year old forwards that take up that much cap space? This is why I can't wait for July 1 to come here and be gone already so that everybody can move on and wait for next season.
