I think they said during the game last night that there are a dozen or so home games where the Wings will be wearing their white jerseys.
-
One hell of a penalty kill boys.
-
Well, I think you know what that means. Hairy pits = Wings lose. Keep those things smooth.
-
Very nice, I like that Helm kid more every day Looks like we're on another power play. Scoring again would be great for the demoralization factor.
-
No worries. The Wings have been much stronger later in the game than in years past. I predict the wings tie it up in the 2nd, which should make for an exciting 3rd period.
-
They're nice, just not original. Several other teams are using a pretty similar looking jersey as their 3rd.
-
Shiiitttt....
-
Well, that makes more sense then.
-
Yeah I don't get it. I wouldn't think it'd be that hard to come up with a jersey and mascot that falls under the Civil War theme. That 3rd jersey is stupidly generic, and the mascot is ridiculous. The logo would have been better as a couple of crossed muskets, or soldier carrying a US flag - they could even put some chevrons on the arms to really drive in the military theme. The cannon looks like it came from some clip art package.
-
With their new mascot, I don't think they have any room to be making fun of anyone. Are they trying to compensate for something?

The Joe seems to have random frat-party techno / teenie bopper music night every once in a while. I had to sit through it the last time Phoenix was in town, and dear god I hope I don't have to ever again.

Even though this is a penalty and not a suspension, it still falls inline with the NHL's suspension flow chart: http://www.downgoesbrown.com/2009/11/nhl-suspensions.html

Watching old games, thoughts on hitting & where it's headed
ACallToArms replied to theman19's topic in General
It's simple really. If you don't want to get hit, just do this -
The Red Wings get more "home" games than any other team in the league!

This is sports statistics. Correlation ALWAYS implies causation!!!

I thought the Winter Classic curse has been discussed here before, but my memory tends to fail me from time to time. Another interesting fact: 2008 - Pittsburgh plays in Winter Class, wins cup next year in 2009 2009 - Chicago plays in Winter Classic, wins cup next year in 2010

I think the beef is cooked on a vertical spit, kind of like how restaurants do shawarma or gyro meat. Not sure what happens processing wise between the hoof and the restaurant, though.
-
If the roast beef sandwich is actually cheaper to make than the curly fries, I shudder to think what kind of cheap ingredients they use in the sandwich. I hate changes like this as much as the next person, but oh well, whatever. I never went in for the free curly fries either, but I love hearing Mickey yell about it. I bet he still will regardless. Maybe that's why they changed. The idea of the promo was to get people in the restaurant so they buy the whole lunch to go with their curly fries. Perhaps they think more people will go in for a free sandwich rather than just fries.

I'm also much more of a Red Wings fan than of hockey in general. However, I keep tabs with other teams in the news, and now that I get the NHL network I'll catch a non-wings game once in a while if it looks like it'll be a good one. I just don't have the time or energy to pay attention to the entire league, so I focus on the home team. Last year was the first time in a while I watched the Stanley Cup Finals w/o the Red Wings being in it. I didn't how I felt about. I wanted to watch a total Chicago meltdown, yet I would have probably puked if I saw Pronger raise the cup. Love: Red Wings Like: Lightning - I have a lot of family in the Tampa Bay area, and they were so excited when they got their hockey team they shipped my brother and I a ton of Tampa Bay stuff their first season, and took us to a couple of games down there. Canadiens and Maple Leafs - Their fan bases seem as loyal and dedicated as ours, and I think they are tied for 2nd best jerseys in the league (Wings are #1 of course) Hate: Anaheim, because of their general douchebagery. Chicago, because they won the cup and the current rival. And, their fans are fools (chanting "Detroit sucks" when they're not even playing the Wings, etc). Pittsburg - the obvious reasons Can't really hate on Colorado anymore, that rivalries been dead a long time. However, I still enjoy seeing a win against them a little more than against other teams.
-
Same here. Unless the Wings are playing against Chicago or other such rival team, I can consistently get good tickets for 1/2 price the face value at stub hub.
-
Truly pathetic. Calls like this are destroying the game. I have friends who are pretty much done with the NHL after watching last year's playoffs and the horrible calls made there. They didn't see the point of watching a game when calls are made so arbitrarily. After watching a video like that I can sympathize with them. The league needs to get the rules straight and start calling games consistently, or all credibility is going to be lost with the fans.
-
Why don't you just go and sit down in the lower bowl? Its not like they check tickets. Pretty much every game I go to a game during the regular season, I just buy the cheapest tickets I can get, and then find myself a couple of empty seats down in the lower bowl. If some suit decides to show up for 5 minutes during the 2nd period, just move over to the next empty seat.

This. The 3rd period was all about a Flames team that was ahead, yet still lost composure when the Wings put the pressure on. I can't remember exactly, but I think that stupid, blatant, bear-hug of a holding penalty happened during their 4 minute power play. How dumb is that?
