Oh, I like the original as well. Nothing beats a fresh margherita pizza baked in a brick oven. In order to keep on topic... how long have the European leagues been putting ads on their player's jerseys? Is it something relatively recent, or has it been that way for a while now?
-
That's friggin' hilarious. I love this team.
-
mmm tasty. That would definitely make me want to buy more of those $5 hot and ready pizza's that they're selling at the Joe for $20
-
Ok, you're probably right... I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case. Free equipment for an on-ice endorsement is pretty cheap advertising. As for Reebok and Bauer adverts on equipment, doesn't bother me as much because its related to the product. Its different than having a BP ad across your helmet.
-
Ads on the boards, jumbotron, above the trough, whatever. Those don't bother me. You kind of expect every square inch of an arena to be littered with advertising. However, messing with the jerseys is a surefire way to get people to stop supporting the NHL in droves. I know this is only a practice jersey, but those slopes tend to be slippery when the commissioner has $$$ in his eyes.

The goggles, they do nothing!!!

Giordano's is good, but it didn't wow me when I had it. It's the same as Pizzapopolis. I know I'm going to get pounced on by the Blackhawks lurkers for that comment. If I want pizza, it's Buddy's for me, or that awesome Tomatoes Apizza place in Farmington for some delicious thin crust. Nikki's is awesome too. Now I'm hungry...

I know some people use a thread cutter (or seam cutter, can't remember the exact term) to take the "jock tag" off. Just cut the stitching out on the tag side, so you don't accidentally cut the jersey. I have friends that have successfully removed the tag with this method. On a side note, I won't be buying any premier jerseys until they stop making them with the stupid tag on the front. I don't believe in buying something, and then having to modify it at risk of damaging the item to make it look right. Whoever is in charge of design over at Reebok needs to stop smokin' whatever they're smokin'.... As for the Reebok vs. CCM debate above, I'll chime in that I like CCM better. I like the CCM's with the Wings logo on the hem the best, in terms of quality. I have a few Koho's that are nice as well. However, the CCM 550's that came out right before the switch to Reebok are pretty low quality IMHO. They started making them overseas in Indonesia, as opposed to Good Old Canada, and it shows.

Is this game being broadcast in Detroit, or is it stream only? -
:nopity: I'm going to go throw up now.

Is this commercial on youtube or elsewhere online? I haven't seen it, I'd be interested though. Complete BS that the NHL went the "Poor Cindy" route rather than "Congrats Hockeytown."

The real reason the font is different: The Red Wings organization, in an effort to save money, are buying their jerseys from off-shore retailers located in China. Everyone knows they can never get the fonts right on those knock-off jerseys...

I'm trying to get my girl into hockey, but its very difficult because of all the stupid officiated, especially last year. With all the inconsistent officiating, and my ranting about it, she wonders why we all still watch the game... terrible. No Call Sam Studio either.... -

Ridiculous... I guess the terrible officiating is alive and well this season. -

Question... I know the new rules regarding hits to the head, etc. However, in this play, it looked like Leddy was getting low, either to go for the puck or to brace himself for the hit. If Owen's elbow hadn't gone out, would this still have been called? If so, it doesn't seem right, since Leddy was lowering his body before the hit. You can't help but make contact above the shoulders when that happens. -
FanaticU does Red Wings jerseys for a flat rate, I think its around $45. I think they charge a bit more for non-player names, like if you want your own last name on the jersey. Doh, I just read that you're outside the Detroit area... doh. Sorry Barrie, disregard.

I've had my jerseys done at FanaticU, they have several locations around the Detroit area. They do an excellent job, and the turnaround is pretty quick. http://fanaticu.com A lot of people like sportsk.com as well.

My brother suffered a traumatic brain injury about a year ago in a motorcycle accident. Luckily, he's expected to make close to a full recovery but even now, a year later, he's not 100%. I saw first hand how debilitating brain injuries are, even what seem like minor ones. Very happy to hear that the Probert family is giving such a generous gift. -
I just got the deal of the century on a couple of authentic Wings jerseys. I got a 1997 Nike white authentic, brand new with tags, and a used early 90's era CCM red authentic that's a little rough with some stains around the white stripe on the bottom. Picked up both for $135. I'm definitely going to get Konstantinov on the white Nike. Haven't decided who I'm going to get on the red. Since its "well worn" I'm going to try to clean it up as best I can and use it as my bar/going to the game jersey, since I won't care if beer gets spilled on it.

I guess from a business perspective he's done well. The league's making money, teams are expanding into new markets with lots of potential revenue. However, the business decisions aren't always good for hockey. Forcing hockey down the throats of the southern US market just isn't going to work. Yes, its a market that was untapped by the NHL, and there's potential to make money. But I think the Phoenix situation proves that you can't just plop a team in the middle of the desert and expect fans to support it. Many of these teams only draw a crowd if they're consistently making it far into the playoffs every year. As soon as that's not the case, they move on. I'm interested to know how big of a crowd the Duck's are drawing these days. How about the Stars? I honestly don't know how loyal their fan bases are, but I'd bet they aren't as loyal as a lot of the northern teams in the traditional hockey markets. And don't get me started on the NBC shenanigans..... oh boy.
