Yeah, I suggest jumping on the people mover at the Joe, and taking that to whatever destination you want. Greektown is good, as said above. Pegasus and Parthenon both offer good Greek food. Nikki's is right there if you want pizza, they have a delicious pie. Loco's, right across from Nikki's, has Tex-Mex food. Detroit Beer Company has some decent food, and good microbrew to boot. Of course, there's always Cheli's Chili and Hockeytown cafe by Comerica Park. Hockeytown Cafe is on the other side of downtown from the Joe, but just take the people mover over to the broadway or grand circus park stations, and walk north and woodward.

While the Pens piss me off, and Crybaby Crosby makes me cringe, I still hate the Ducks more. 2009 was bad, but the Wings had two chances to put it away. The Ducks are a goon squad extraordinaire, and I love watching the Wings kick their ass. That being said, the Avs will always be my #1 hated team.

Yay for nepotism! Not saying that the kid isn't good, and there may not have even been anything fishy going on behind the scenes, but the whole thing just looks bad, like daddy got him on the time. He also has an unfortunate last name. Not very good for the jersey sales

It's called fate, or something like that... Eventually, everyone falls into whatever activity they're good at.

Blame Dr. Spock, and his books that everyone followed like it was the holy bible of child rearing. When I played baseball when I was little, my parents would actually watch the games, see what I was doing right and wrong, and then we'd go in the backyard and work on skills. Now everyone thinks their kid is the greatest at everything, and if coach benches a kid the parents yell at coach instead of working on whatever skills their kid needs to improve in order to play. In junior high, I tried out for the basketball team. Quite frankly, I sucked, and didn't get picked. I didn't cry, my parents didn't sue. They always taught me to try hard at everything in life; sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. I eventually found a sport I was good at, cross-country and track & field, and I worked hard to get good. The hard work paid off and I got a great sense of satisfaction from it. I can't imagine I'd get the same feeling if I got something without trying. I hate this false sense of entitlement a lot of people younger than me have (and some the same age as me). Its like some parents are so worried about trashing a kid's self esteem that they put them on this false pedestal, and they pay for it later in life because they're not ready for the real world. Very sad.

Perhaps this rule change is a response to the general outrage hardcore hockey fans have towards shootouts. With this rules change, shootout wins are diluted a little bit, and perhaps given enough time the NHL will get rid of them all together. I've never understood the justification for having a shootout. Its like deciding a tied baseball game by having a home run derby: entertaining to watch, but no way to decide the game. I've sat at baseball games that have gone plenty of extra innings to decide a regular season game. I don't think most hockey fans would object to seeing an occasional extra period or two to decide a regular season game. Think of it as getting more value for your ticket dollar. That gets me thinking... the reason Bettman wanted to implement the shootout is because he thought the fans wanted to see a skills contest between individual players. Why not have some kind of shootout event during the all star game, similar to the home run derby the MLB runs during their all star game?

Yeah, I received an emailed newsletter too. I'm assuming its going to be packed, and you'll need to devote most of the day to it. Hockeytown is only about 3 miles form my house, but I'd have to take the day off work in order to get a wristband, and vacation days are precious. At least the Kocur/D-Mac signing is on a Saturday

They're bad, but if its a choice between those seats and not going to a hot ticket game at all, I'll choose the cave. They're still not as bad as the obstructed view seats at old tiger stadium. With some of those you were better off watching it on TV.

I have digital starter with HD which didn't include it in the lineup (as of last year). I barely watch TV, and really only watch hockey and college football. When I talked to Comcast last year, they said you only get channel 901 with the Sports Entertainment Package, which costs extra $$$ per month. If this has changed recently, I'm not aware of it. I guess I'll have to check it out when I get home

I started really following the Wings around 94, but there was always Wings talk amongst my friends for as long as I can remember. I was in junior high in 95 and 96, and those playoffs were definitely painful, especially 95. Game 7 of the 2009 finals was ugly, but at least it went to a game 7. Watching the Wings get swept in 95 sucked.
