    Washing my Jerseys

I wouldn't put it in the dryer at all. Its unnecessary, and you run the risk of having the crest shrink. All I do is turn my jerseys inside out, wash it in the gentle cycle with a bit of detergent, and then hang dry. You can get wrinkles out by covering the jersey with a blank white t-shirt, and ironing over it.

    First trip to Detroit/JLA

Hockeytown Cafe is cool for the Wings memorabilia and atmosphere, but I don't think their food is that great. If its your first time, drop in for a beer or 3, check the place out, but eat elsewhere. Its just generic bar food, which is a shame since I think they could do a lot more with the menu. There are a lot of restaurants in the area that have better food for less money. Also, I'm not 100% sure that parking is free at the Greektown structure. It used to be, but I started parking at the church when people told me they were charging for the structure. Perhaps some people who have been there recently can let you know for sure.

    First trip to Detroit/JLA

Greektown and Foxtown (across from Comerica Park) are the big entertainment areas downtown. I suggest most people try Greektown for their first Detroit trip, there are lots of bars and restaurants in a small walkable area. Personally, when going to a game, I park at the Greek Orthodox church here: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=707+E+Lafayette+Blvd+Detroit,+MI+48226-2990&hl=en&sll=42.335788,-83.038667&sspn=0.001568,0.002411&vpsrc=0&t=m&z=17 It's right off of 375, and only $5-$10 to park, depending on whats going on downtown. Then, its just a short walk to Greektown, many of the bars offer free shuttles to the game. My favorite is The Old Shillelagh. You can always grab a bar shuttle, or take the people mover, after the game to get back to Greektown.

Winnipeg Jets' new jerseys for 2011-2012?

Even though these are fake, I actually really like the logo.

    Red Wings Sponsor?

Sick. Makes me want to vomit. I too hate seeing this much corporate branding tarnishing my beloved team, but the fact that its Amway makes it that much worse. Pyramid Scheme Center?

    Operation Bobblehead

Perhaps you should bring this idea to the attention of Red Wings management

    Operation Bobblehead

I would pay good money for a Murph bobble!!!! Of course, Zetterberg has the lead in votes. Since there's a gazillion Z bobbles out on the market right now, why not vote for the guys you can't get at a retail store, like Helm and Abby?

What are you reading right now?

You'll have to let me know how you like the Ice and Fire series. I picked up the first book randomly years ago in a Borders (while waiting for my female companion to finish shopping elsewhere in the mall ) I read through the entire series in a weekend; only the first 3 books were out at the time. I'm not exactly an avid reader, so I've never blown through books that fast in my life!! I'm about half way through Dance With Dragons... loving it so far.

    beers!

Did a large lower Michigan brewery tour over the 4th of July weekend. Couple of standouts: Michigan Brewing Company - Webberville, MI MBC Maibock: A delicious bock-style lager, so delicious I bought a growler! Being used to maltier bocks, this one was quite different with its hop bitterness. The hops were not so much as to make it similar to a pale ale, but enough to distinguish it from traditional bocks. Nice amber color, small thin head. Easy drinking, so it can get dangerous as its 6.5% ABV. Founders Brewing Company - Grand Rapids, MI Founders is now sporting a renovated tap room, which is HUGE. Very long and roomy, with a stage setup on one end with the brewing facility in the background. Long bar with plenty of seats. Unfotunately, they were out of quite a few selections. I ended up getting the oatmeal stout, and I'm glad I did. If they had some of the other ales I was looking forward to, such as Blushing Monk, I probably would have passed it up. Most oatmeal stouts I've had have been on the sweeter side of the malt spectrum. This oatmeal stout was very roasty, almost bitter coffee like. It was a very nice surprise. On top of that, they have it on nitrogen, so the glass had a thick, creamy, delicious head of foam. Definitely a winner here. Hop Cat Brewery - Grand Rapids, MI Hop Cat is unique in that they have their own house-brewed selections, but they also stock 100's of bottles, and taps, from microbreweries around the world. I had a few samples (ok, more than a few!), but a memorable one was one of Hop Cats house beers, a pale ale brewed with sage and honey. It was delicious, the honey and sage flavors were subtle and just right. The beer poured golden with a moderate off-white head that left decent lacing on the glass. Bell's - Kalamazoo, MI Bell's has also renovated their tap room, and its a cross between modern elements and a lodge-type atmosphere. Had their version of a belgian tripel, which was good but didn't really stand out compared to others I've had. Also tried their Golden Rye at the suggestion of the bartender. It was a very good, pale ale brewed with rye malt. Had a decent amount of hop bitterness, flavor, aroma, as a pale ale should. It wasn't anything I'd go out of my way to have, but if they offered it in bottles (its tap room only right now), it would probably earn a permanent place in my fridge. Had a few other little samplers of their other tap room only beers. If I had one criticism of Bell's, its that they play it safe. I can understand sticking to the tried and true recipes for their bottled beer, but I was expecting a little more creativity in their tap room selections. Still worth the trip, their bar and outdoor area are very nice, wish I had more time to hang out more there.

    Jersey question

I'd have to disagree, I've seen fake Nike Red Wings jerseys on ebay. They were more prevalent before the Reebok jerseys came out, but they still do pop up occassionally. I've been around the block in terms of collecting jerseys, so if anyone has a question regarding jersey authenticity, just send me a PM with a link to the auction. The fight strap is usually a big give away, the fakes look awful. Its also very difficult for them to fake the arched lettering. If you're buying a replica no worries, I don't thinkt hey fake replicas. If you're going to buy a Reebok Edge, I'd wait a little bit. The current Edge jerseys they sell at retail are the 1.0 with Reeboks new material. This stuff is so crappy that it will get ruined with pulls and snags the first time you wear it out somewhere. The Wings currently play with the Edge 2.0's, which use good old fashioned air-knit. I've heard rumors that Reebok are going to start phasing out the 1.0's and swich to 2.0 for retail. Sportsk is an awesome company, I've met the owner a couple of times and he's really cool and very customer oriented.

    Morons at large

Truly pathetic. And people talk about what a crap town Detroit is? At least we don't burn what's left of the place down when our sports teams win, or lose... I remember on game 7 in 2009, after the Wings lost everyone just finished up their drinks, paid their bills, and walked home. None of this burning car crap. I hope Vancouver never touches the cup.

What are you reading right now?

Re-reading the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin. The new book, A Dance With Dragons, comes out next month. Its been a while since I read the series so I wanted to freshen up before it comes out. For non-fiction, I'm reading "Sacred and Herbal Healing Beers." I want to brew some beers using ancient techniques and ingredients, so this book is kind of a primer for that.

    Kid Rock and Wings

Don't really care for his music, but I will admit that he's a great entertainer. I've been to one of his live shows at Comerica, and it was a good time. Seems like he'd be fun to hang out with, I would think he's pretty down to earth.

Worst Alternate Jerseys in Hockey History

Interns must have written this article. First, the international jerseys aren't thirds, they always have the ads, which do look horrible, but they aren't third jerseys. The AHL jerseys are meant to be bad. They're not really true thirds, they wear them on one-off special nights in order to generate publicity. And then the author pretty much lists every third jersey out there in the NHL. Article fail. Bottom line: third jerseys suck, please stop making them. Are you listening NHL???

    beers!

Blasphemy! I actually enjoy Blue Moon, its pretty decent for a commercial beer. Any fruit beer from Sam Adams, now that's cough syrup! (Sorry Hockeytown!!!!)

    Atlanta Thrashers move to Winnipeg

This is what I was thinking. I don't know how much of a factor it is, but the league must be paying attention to how certain stadiums fill up all of a sudden when the Wings are in town (I'm looking at you, Phoenix).

    (1) Vancouver Canucks vs. (2) San Jose Sharks

<extreme sarcasm> Because boobs are bad, don't you know? </extreme sarcasm> I know you're probably joking, but I'm kinda sick of hearing this I used to work with a bunch of Europeans in my grad school lab, and they would say things like this all the time. There are plenty of beautiful women here in NA, and I'm sure you guys have your fair share of the uglies over in the EU

    Winter Classic jersey

Buy this jersey: http://www.sportsk.com/viredwi19.html Add this patch: http://www.sportsk.com/20wiclpa.html Good to go! Sportsk sends their jerseys to the same people who sew the Wings on-ice jerseys, so its 100% authentic.

    Winter Classic jersey

I don't think you can buy the Winter Classic jerseys at retail anymore, Reebok stopped making them. Some of the sporting goods stores around Detroit like Dick's and Dunham's had them for a while, but they may be sold out now too.
