Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa

I think if Hossa tests the market that the Wings take their offer off of the table and start going after free agents to fill the holes they have. This team cannot wait any longer for Hossa. If Hossa tests the market, let him walk.

Could the Wings play at the Palace?

Steve Yzerman Arena sounds nice to me. Let's be honest, Joe Louis Arena should have been named Gordie Howe Arena.

Could the Wings play at the Palace?

It is possible to build a stadium/arena that doesn't feel like a giant commercial shopping mall. The Illitch's were successful with building a great ball field and will be successful in building an arena that is worthy of an Original 6, dynastic team like the Red Wings. The Illitch's know the traditions of hockey that exist in this area and they will not ignore them.

Could the Wings play at the Palace?

I bet the writer of this article wanted to save Tiger Stadium in its dilapidated state too. The Wings need a completely new arena, not a renovation of the Joe. The Joe has so many problems, next to no bathrooms for one, that it would probably be more economical to build a new arena. Also, this guy is an absolute moron if he thinks the Red Wings are going to move to Windsor. That's not even a plausible speculative statement, it's simply a moronic one. "And on a personal note, I don't want to see Joe Louis disappear -- it's a part of Red Wings history and tradition." It seems that a lot of people have trouble moving on from old stadiums to new ones in this city. Yes, the Joe has a lot of history, but it's a dump beyond renovation, just like Tiger Stadium was. Yes, Tiger Stadium had history, but show me a seat at Comerica Park where you are sitting behind a giant pillar. Comerica Park is a beautiful baseball field that is worthy of a historic franchise as the Tigers. The Olympia was full of history too and they tore that down no problem. I have very little doubt that the Illitch's are positioning for a short term lease on the Joe and will eventually start building a new arena once the gloomy economic cloud over Detroit and Michigan passes by. Edit: Pretty misleading title if you ask me.

the top 50 professional hockey players in the world today!

"Feel free to debate the merits (or lack thereof in your opinion of the list)" Don't act surprised at what is going on in this topic. To say nothing about this list is flawed is comical. There is absolutely no fool proof way to determine who is the best hockey player in the world and anyone who thinks otherwise needs a reality check. Again, you cannot ask for debate on this list and then act offended because we are talking bad about someones work. Somehow I doubt that these scouts care that a bunch of people on the internet are talking bad about their list. Someone needs to post a FAIL pic in this topic. Just wow.

the top 50 professional hockey players in the world today!

You ask people to debate the merits of the poll and you are now taking offense to people debating the merits of the poll. It should be absolutely no surprise to you that many people on here do not think Crosby should be number #1, etc.

You go with what works. Zetterberg was able to shut down Crosby last year in the SCF, so you obviously go with that system again. Also, Malkin of this year's SCF and Malkin of last year's SCF are two completely different players. I'm sure Babcock would have loved to have Datsyuk at 100% out there with Malkin. Babcock matched his 1st line with Pittsburgh's first line.

    Ed Belfour

People are chasing that Dallas Drake type player. That one player who is on his way out and wants to go out on top and will sacrifice anything to get there.

the top 50 professional hockey players in the world today!

If they are so in tune with player rankings, they would realize that Crosby is not even the best player on his team. It's impossible to be the best player in the world when you are not your team's best player.

    Wings to trade one defenseman

I can guarantee you that Stuart is not going to waive his NTC to go to Phoenix. I don't think any player in the league is dumb enough to do that. Take a look back at the Chicago series. Stuart was arguably the best defenseman in that series and stepped it up big time when Lidstrom went down with his injury. If you take Game #7 from the SCF out of the picture, Stuart was one of the best defenseman for the Wings during the playoffs.

    Pens re-sign Bill Guerin

A nice $2 million payday for the last season of his career, in all likelihood. Guerin can handle having the target on his back, but I don't think many of the other Pens' players can. Will they be able to fight for every victory and come back from 2-3 goal deficits to steal wins? We'll see. The Pens will need more from their compliment players because Crosby and Malkin cannot do it all once again with everyone gunning for them.

    Wings to trade one defenseman

That's why you get rid of a player like Meech. In all honesty, how much is Meech really worth? You can afford to little in return.

    Wings to trade one defenseman

I remember Stuart wanting a longer term contract so that he would have some security for his family and so that they wouldn't be moving all over the place. I doubt Stuart would wave his no trade clause and I wouldn't want him too. He was our second best defenseman in the playoffs, the best when Lids was out.

Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa

Is this what Pens fans went through last year?

Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa

This would be nice, but this can also turn into a nightmare scenario. The Wings can negotiate until 11:59 AM on Wednesday and walk out empty handed when they had the opportunity to gain by trading Hossa's rights. Also, longer negotiations hinder the Wings to make decisions on Sammy and Hudler. I'm just glad that Kenny is at the head of the table. If there is any man in the world that can get Hossa to take less than he is worth to stay with the Wings it is Kenny Holland.

Are Power Forwards a dying breed?

Who did Kopecky intimidate? I think the definition should be changed to "...is willing and able to fight..." Kopecky was willing to fight, but he got destroyed when he took on Beauchemin. Based on that definition, the Red Wings have no power forwards.

    Wings won't bring Conklin back

No real surprise on this one. The Wings' management seems to really like Jimmy and Conks is due a big raise after his play this past season. After all is said and done, Ty might come out as a starter with a nice contract. I wish Ty all the best and thank him for saving the Wings' butts when Ozzie went south during the regular season.
