"sloppy, sad-sack sid shown splayed" jesus, i shoulda been a newspaperman...in the 40's...
-
so its a forward on the chopping block then... i mean, lebda's gone too...but probably a lateral for another d-man. one that, you know...plays d. feeling inspired yet, bert? j-dub?

i'd buy someone getting benched before helmer gets sent down...unless we're maybe talking cap issues? and if its cap issues, helm being sent down is only for as long as it takes to trade/deal someone-who-will-remain-nameless-but-it-ends-with-ebda. or am i totally off-base here? i'm genuinely asking (never did get my mind around the whole of the CBA/cap thing)... oh and esteef....you read my mind about bert!

the thing i like about may signing is this....his gratitude. even in those interviews during his exhibition game, guy just looked like he was so stoked to be here, to even have a chance of playing for us. and when he was on the ice, he played like it... i mean...here's a guy who was looking at being completely out of options in the NHL, and really nothing left in AHL either, and he was given an opprotunity to try out for the wings! before he even saw the locker room, this guy understood the meaning of "to whom much is given, much is expected"...because to him, the greatest thing he could be given was a chance. so he came here, and played like he meant it. like he felt like the luckiest guy on earth. and he was... now that he's got his spot, i hope he doesn't lose sight of this...much now is expected! my own expectation is that some of our other guys take a think-think about how he got here, and maybe they'll start playing like they're the luckiest guys in the world, because they get to play for the detroit red wings!! so thats my little editorial.

there were plenty of more on....sidney's a more-on, and malkin's a more-on, and and and.... (hehehe)
-
"peppy phoenix plunders penguins - sullen, sulky sidney suffers serious suck-spasms"! i couldn't come up with a good one for the pounding the habs took, but damn if h sedin was just a tip-in shy of a hat! great games tonight, fo sho!

yesyesyes, we know....holmstrom is the epicenter of all that is evil in this world. he helps old ladies across the street, only to leave them stranded halfway across as he dashes the rest of the way giggling....he touches nuns inappropriately, and he teaches children how to swear while telling them the "truth about santa clause". he's a rotten, useless old man.... i must however ask you...if the original topic is "darren helm questionable for thursday's game", how exactly do you expect helm to be in whilst holmstrom-the-horrible goes out? did we lose touch with the intended topic of discussion just a wee bit, hmmn? you know...bet that bastard holmstrom didn't even once wish helmer a speedy recovery. probably sent dead flowers if he sent any at all! takes change from the pencil jars of blind beggars, too...

i'd forgotten that they adjusted the size, so for that oversight i must own my mistake. and in any case, i wasn't making excuses...merely adding to the "its been 2 effin' games, folks" sentiment. as for being a homer, well... the wings are my #1 team, yes. but hockey is my sport. i'll be watching both games tonight, as many games as possible tomorrow night, and on off days i'll be watching KHL (our leauge really needs "solid gold dancers" too!) since its easy to find streaming links for their games. so you can call me "wrong", or at the least "incorrect"...but "homer" is overstepping it a bit, considering you've no proper basis for such a claim.

or at least after 2 games played on NHL-sized ice...

he'd never make it out of the airport! he'd be given a "security escort" ("its for your own safety sir...follow us please"), then crated and shipped to china!! one week later, there would be baby blue "mr hockey" jerseys for sale all over ebay...."authentic" ones, lol...
-
there's plenty of fail on the internet...he just seems to've sucked up a disproportionate amount of it ATM. by the looks of it, most of the donuts, too....
-
i have to agree with most of the points everyone has made, but above all i think the secret lies in Finnishwing's answer....we need to play a solid 60 mins. we can't be the wings for the first 25-30 mins, then become the yotes for the rest of the game. an observation...the fans are urgent and intense, and the wings are playing (too) patiently. if we could flip that somehow...
-
see...but that doesn't do us any good. now if someone were to track that guy down and throw up in HIS mouth a little (actually, a lot!)...THAT would be productive. for now, i'll delude myself with the thought that he's just a bad speller, and its supposed to say "mr. hokey". a little more apt, that....

i second...all in favor?

thats gotta be disheartening when he goes home for christmas... "mom, dad? i'm home!!!" BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! poor bert...

during the first intermission i was thinking of posting that i'd just come from the future, and the final score was 7-2. looks like i was close! should've posted it!!

they play american tunes in just about every rink around the world. they love them some 80s dance tunes in the KHL... also just wanted to add my sympathies for the swede's goalie...he looks a little starstruck out there.

one more chit for mickey.... not taking anything away from pang...he's incredibly knowledgeable and better than most at keeping himself on-topic. but he looks like nosferatu. there...i said it. sorry darren...but you look like count orloff.

as i type this, i'm watching OP's fave player w/ moscow dynamo...you wanna see a goalie with no rebound control? check out hudler's heroes some day!! so, i suppose since none of our new kids scored or even had any points in this ONE game, we should trade/waive/castrate them too, eh? c'mon, leftie...you're supposed to be "mr. youth movement". i'm not saying i've got a ton of faith in howie, but fer crimminy! if you wanna get into rebound control, he only struggled with a couple in the last period! glove saves were solid for the first two periods, and like drake said...maybe its not such a bad idea to have a goalie around who forces us to be more defensively responsible, especially for the "youth movement", who should be given every reason to develop good defensive habits. not to say we should just "hang a tarp" in goal...rather to reiterate that the young guys' games are still very impressionable. i have to agree with most everyone else here...most likely we'll have someone new at the trade deadline. larsson will also be given his chance if and when howard becomes to much of a liability. we've got effin' options... and sincerely, you should check out huds and dynamo moscow if you wanna feel better about almost everything, especially goaltending. the khl style of play sort of reminds me of my lovemaking....sloppy and all over the place. is it good hockey? lets just say....its entertaining as hell!

lol, well i've stated elsewhere that we've already got that healthy ohio/michigan hatred to help tip the scales a bit, so thats chit 1 for our tally... yes, it does depend on the jackets continuing to improve and how they handle the wings in the future, but i've also said elsewhere that its less about wings hating jackets, and more about the kind of motivational hatred they must be feeling after that sweep. i liken it to the fire that colorado lit under our asses, and how we used that seething hatred to bond as a team and rise to the next level, where we've sat ever since... now, fortunately the jackets don't have to look at any assholeish violence caused to one of their teammates (not one of us will ever be as bad as claude! and don't say bert, cause at least that guy appeared remorseful...plus he wasn't a wing when he fell), but that only reinforces my opinion that they can positively channel all that disappointment and hatred into something positive for the team. other benefits to a heated rivalry would be proximity...hardcore fans of both teams aren't looking at too tremendous a road trip to see games live, which is only good for both clubs (though not necessarily for anyone caught with rabid garage-dweller-savages like you contended with!). hell, if the league saw the rivalry drawing interest, they might schedule a game on the same night as the UofM/OSU football game, or at least the same weekend...double the rivalry, double the sports, double the revenues! (haha...geddit? i said the league would do something useful to further grow a newer hockey market! okay...it was a subtle joke, but i promise it was one!) anyway, i'm rambling. mostly, i'm just glad to know that someone else out there gets a concept i've been stating since jay-dub came out of the box for serving that too many men penalty... and lets wish the jackets a wonderful season, especially against chicago (but not us)!
-
sweet! another wing-nut with a soft spot for the jackets!! i'm a former detroiter stuck in indiana, and its only a 3 hr ride to go see a jackets game, so i've kind of adopted them as my team-away-from-home. plus, i smell an intense rivalry brewing between the wings and jackets (they've gotta hate us for the sweep...we couldn't even let them win one game in their playoff debut? hells no we couldn't!), and i feel its gonna be one of the more entertaining rivalries to watch in the coming years (provided cbj keep developing and improving at the current rate)... as for jay-dub, i'm not quick to forget his first run with us, but i'm a bit quicker to believe he's improved quite a bit since then. he did look a lot better in many of the games i saw last year...like you said, not "the future" or "effing brilliant", but "better" and "good" do apply. i see where the cynics and haters are coming from, and i don't expect anyone to have an about face based on his thusfar lone preseason game. myself, lets say i'm "reluctantly optimistic" about him...i'll be unkind when he eff's up, and when he does well i'll be effusive. as for bert, well....you asked for a calgary fan's take, and i'm not one...but when have i ever held tongue? i just hope i don't have to watch him take a shot, only to have his arms literally rip out of their sockets and go flying along with the puck and his stick on goal....
-
"the sauce" would be cool...but imagine the rhyming fun of "score! tatar from 'gator!", or vice versa...
-
great....start off the season by inferring that the hockey gods are homocentric pedophiles...that'll do us good!

Ken Hitchcock wants to make the Wings "Bleed"
deetroit dario replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
i've been saying it since game 4 ended...we're their new arch-enemy. to them, we're like the avs were to us in the years leading up to our return to dominance. thing is, i just don't see a future where the jackets can take that sort of motivation and turn it into a dominant team. i'm just saying they must see us that way... personally, i like the jackets as well....but i've got a thing about underdogs, too. plus, they're close enough to where i live now that i can actually see a game now and then! as for making us bleed, well....maybe if he sits on one of our players... -
not sure if you're a music fan or not, and its got nothing to do with the wings....but when in detroit, one should at least drive by "hitsville USA", the recording studio/home base of motown records during the glory years. its a little white and blue house at 2648 West Grand Blvd. now known as the motown historical museum. again, possibly not your thing...but i swear when you're nearby, you can feel the ghosts. last time i was there, i could feel (bassist james) jamerson's insistant presence all around me (possibly because i had a flask of cheap whisky on my person). you know...its a post like this one that makes me homesick more than anything. especially when everyone has replied with positive and thoughtful suggestions as to points of interest, instead of the more common "you're going to DETROIT?!? UNARMED?!?!?" i'll second the previous suggestion that you take a little time to drive through some of the historical neighborhoods like boston-edison as well. some of the most beautiful homes you'll ever see! enjoy the d, brother! and give her my love...
