if they let the lafayette building go, don't expect the joe to survive. gods willing, they will find a compromise that keeps the lines of sight while still expanding the seating (and you know they'll be taking the boards from the joe!!). it can still be done, whilst improving the outer-arena amenities. i've had many a memorable night at the joe, and will be sad to see it put to other use/demolished. and like doc said, jla is not in the best location for making it a night on the town...truth is, the space would be better used for expanding cobo/cobo parking (not to be callous, just realistic). sure, i'd love to see it turned into some kind of NHL museum (heh, like gary would ever allow that!), but the realities of detroit just won't allow that. again, all we can hope for is that the architects involved are respectful of the many virtues of JLA. AMWAY Arena is a gross sounding name, but if my wings win in the building, and i can see okay from the cheaps, i don't care if they call it Claude Lemieux!! now, if they expletive it up, and its just another NHL razzle dazzle stinkhole...then i'll get bitter. but still nothing a few more stanley cup banners wouldn't fix. the JLA history will be missed, but there is still history to be made...

so, i don't even know why, but when i read the retirement article on mlive, i started to cry. not a sad cry, not a happy cry...just a few tears and when i'd finished reading, a slight salute. i didn't even do that when stevie retired. i've only cried about this sport one time...when vladdie was in the accident. still not sure what prompted it, or why i've felt the need to post about it after a long self imposed exile from lgw. all i know is, the man deserved our respect and never got it, he deserved every win (and a few of the losses!), and he now deserves a proper sendoff. thank you, ozzie, for everything. you may not be on the ice, but both my wife and myself will wear your jersey with pride!!

its my birthday, so i'm predicting.... a wings win. a few comments about the iniquities of hudler. a few insulting comments about people who like hudler. a loss prediction from mindfly. a prognostication regarding the wings iniquities due to having hudler by mindfly. and beyond that, more mindfly insipidity. don't let me down, blackhawk!!

true story... back in those days ('98-'01) i worked at the mobil station in milford, across from the shell station. guy pulls into the lot with colorado plates. we get to chatting, he tells me he's just moved here. i ask if he'll be switching sides and rooting wings now. he says he'll stick with his avs. my exact words were "then you can get your ass and your things and get the f*** out...you go to shell for gas and coffee now." he comes in the next day to complain to my boss (who is a die hard wings fan), who says to him (exact words once again) "so why are you here? he did tell you to get the f*** out and don't come back, didn't he? god, avs fans are so ******* dumb!!!" miss those days. and kathy, you were the bestest boss ever!!

(don't tell me you haven't seen those comments!) the facts are, we're not getting anyone new for the top 6. we're getting captain and holmer, hudler and a couple returnees. we might get a bottom 6 forward, we might not. any action this team sees as far as roster shakeups happens at the trade deadline. all of you know it, too... would i like kovalchuk to wear a winged wheel? sure! will it happen? i'll sum it up for you sweetly...kenny is GM, and we're in a cap era....so good luck! i only have one question for our CM's (couch managers) here...i'm seeing a lot of rosters @ 20 players. after this past season of insulting injury...is anyone really comfortable having only a 20-man roster? i'm seeing a lot of ideas i like, players i'd take...but not too many full rosters to get it done with. either that, or its 6 d-men with no cap space left. what happens should (gods forbid) just one of those 6 d-men gets injured? its little things like this that keep me from junking out on capgeek...everytime i think i've got a good one, i notice the little cracks.

you make a valid point, sir! while i'm one of those who will continue to watch regardless, i should throw in the addendum that it'll be much easier to pull myself away from a game or two for a nice long night ride. i don't ride enduro (always wanted to learn), but it doesn't matter what you ride...so long as you're riding!! that being said, i still believe we'll rise from this funk and keep it going for another deep run. so my night rides will have to be on non-wing nights.

still gonna watch the rest of the series/playoffs, still gonna watch next season (and every season after) with enthusiasm (i always hear deniro as capone when i use that word!). wings are my team, but i am a fan of the sport. the league is in my doghouse today, but show me a better sport out there!

i think a lot of the frustration coming from the TEAM's fans has less to do with "bandwagonism", and more to do with feeling disenchanted with the league itself. i can admit that the TEAM made mistakes last night. the officiating alone is not to blame. faceoffs lost, frustrations surfaced, and the long and short is, the TEAM that i love wound up losing. that is fact. last night, i was not only embarassed for my TEAM, i was embarassed for the league. honestly, i've seen better officiating in the KHL. that, also, is fact. i still and always will support my red wings, but i think last night was a black eye for the league in which they play. now, am i a bandwagoner?

we're still going to win the series. its what we do...we find adversity, we face it, we face-wash it! pavelski isn't "the only shark doing anything", though. plenty of them are diving like the ice isn't frozen!! that being said, we do need to sort out this faceoff issue, and address a few other minor inconsistencies. but we're coming home to the joe for the next two, and we can sure as hell steal one (at least) in the tank. i'm burying my officiating concerns, simply because i refuse to believe that the putridity (too much vs.) of tonight could be equalled or made worse. ever... so yeah, might be another 7 gamer, but we still take the series. we're the wings...its what we do!
