I'm not very smart on the cap but I dont think the wings can do that. Bert's cap is still a hit unless he is on LTIR and I dont think we have the room to call up Abs as long as Berts number si still a hit. Maybe someone that knows more about teh cap should chime in though.

I really didn't think Huet was the reason we won like the commentators were saying. Flips goal was a nice breakaway goal, Dats on a breakaway, the one Rafalski got was kinda weak and Lidstroms he had to try to see around Bert which isn't easy. I tihnk the wings just had a great second period not so much Huet played bad.
-
Bert was having a hell of a game today too, it sucks that he's out. He had a few good backchecks and set up Flip for an easy goal. Hopefully its just a minor charlie horse, you never know with a charlie it could be a while til he's back or it could be next game.
-
Lilja had a strong game today. It sure sucks that he isn't as physical anymore, today when he had Byfuglien in his face all I could think of was how last year he probably would've dropped him

You picked a good sport to follow and yes chicago is one of detroit's only rivals. I would say Chicago and the Ducks are the only rivals detroit has

Maybe this belongs in the prospects so mods feel free to move it if it does. This was our big deal this deadline and now I would like to know what people think about this guy. He's 23 right now so I tinhk its fair to call him a prospect and he sounds like he has a shott o make it as a 4th line player. He has 12 goals and 37 points this year in the AHL but this isn't how he's gonig to make it. From what I've read he's got blazing speed, good defensively, can hit extremely hard and will fight when need be. Sonuds like he's got everything he needs already to be a 4th liner, maybe he won't put up points but it sounds like he could make it as an energy player in the NHL someday, he's got the speed for the game. Just wondering what everyone thinks about him and his chances about making the big club someday. I tinhk this deal has a lot of upside, I like Newbury but he's a fringe NHLer thats 28. We got a 23 year old that could really develop into a nice 4th liner in the NHL and add some toughness and a PK ability.

Watching the game last night he had 3 noticeably BIG hits. He also looked really fast and was in the middle of every scrum out there standing up for his teammates. He looks like he has the tools to make the NHL to me.
-
Yeah and he had another fight 2 nights ago that was the second fight while Tardif was fighting Desbien. SO really he has 6 since he's been down. He did a good job against Nathan Mciver who is a pretty legit fighter in the NHL when he's up. Abs has what it takes to be a good middleweight in the NHL if he keeps it up. He looks way too good for the AHL when I've watched the last few games, he'll be a force come playoffs with the big team.

Orr vs Carkner I'm assuming?
-
Yeah I like the sounds of that line. The way Abdelkader has been fighting now, him and Owens could be a decent one two punch and with Helm flying around the ice hitting everything that line would be awful to play against. Sounds good to me UK youre right I have nothing else to do at all haha

I see alot of people that are talking trash about Canada so I'm startng this thread for the Canadians on here and other people who can respect a good hockey team. We can appreciate things like Getzlaf laying out Volchenkov after that cheap hit by Staal or how Nash is an absolute beast. Richards played a hell of a game last night too. Thoughts?
-
So does this guy project to be an NHLer or career minor leaguer? Anybody know if we have a decent prospect on our hands all of a sudden?
-
I'm as big of a fight fan here as anyone but I'm not sad to see this trade made at all. I think Newbury was an expperiemnt to see if we could get his game to work in the NHL and give us a feisty pest outt here. It didnt happen so Holland traded him for another scrappy guy who has the same amount of fights this year, and is 5 years younger. By the sounds o it this guy could make it to the NHL and I'm sure his fighting ablity will get better, by the look sof his card he's only started fighting recently.

Don't expect much from the Wings during Trade Deadline
newfy replied to ShanahanMan's topic in General
No kidding, witht the cap making good moves is tough in NHL 10. But I tihnk Holland could've made a shake up this year. Yeah we got Mule back and blah blah blah and we can't just trade away player x for y cause we want something exciting. But this year the team isnt like its expected to be, our team is good on paper but underperforming. This means a shake up could be perfect. -
With Canada sealing the deal on the hockey game they set a record for most golds at a single Olympics. What a fitting way to set the record, proving hockey belongs to Canada with Gold in both men's and women's. A great day to be Canadian. And before anyone brings up the USA medal count, yeah we get it you guys were the 1st loser and the second loser more then us but we have the most gold which is what really matters!
-
SO you wouldn't say the USA own basketball? Without a doubt I would say they do
-
Until 2014 we undoubtedly own the sport. Before today you could bring up arguments about why we dont, but right now we're the olympic champs. And have the most players in the league, and pretty much every team in the last decade that has won a cup has heavy canadian influence.
-
I tihnk its because he already had both feet off the ice.
-
Miller played great. Reminded me of Giggy almost stealing a cup in 03
-
Perry just got laid out 5 seconds after the buzzer. The refs call no penalties on the original hit or the little retliation that did no damage. No need to complain.
-
Because everyother country talkas like its their game. Thre was a thread the other day about how come 2014 the stateas wll be the best hockey country in the world. We like to defend whats ours.
-
Oh you mean the play where he got laid out 5 seconds after the buzzer? Yeah that should've been a call on the States but I'm not complaining we still won.
-
Even if the refs were bad which they weren't, if the states were that great of a team tehy cuoldve overcame a little adversity. This officiating is nothing compared to teh ladys gold in salt lake reffed by an American where Canada still won. Anyone complainging about these refs go take a look at that game. Canada killed over a period in penalties.

Well GMR youre pretty much my favourite poster on here, but once you set the record for summer golds then come talk haha. We have the record for most golds in one of the Olympics. USA doesnt have either.
