Voted Perry. After a terrible go last time maybe he'll go looking for redemption. Doesn't seem like Perry is liked by too many red wings.

ABout time we had some good news around here This almost makes up for Newbury getting sent down

Okay if this was true it would be amazing and I doubt Abs will ever be the fighter Mac was but he will definitly be able to match him in the goal scoring department. While watching the game today the commentator made a comment that Babcock was telling Abdelkader to fight more, this combined with May giving him some lessons had me thinking. Does anyone think Abdelakder has what it takes to maybe be a solid fighter and point produer in the future or is he not that good with the fists?

Rick Rypien is a great comparison I tihk the way that Callahan takes on anyone of all sizes is alot like Rick. If Callahan is close to being the fighter Rypien(Mitch is having loads of practice) then I will be ecstatic.

If I were a Chicago fan I know I would want someone to get Kronwall, its hockey you hurt a player with a hit, a beating could be coming your way. Doan has had his fair share of brush ups I'm sure he would be game and might even expect someone to introduce themselves next game against the yotes.

I'm sure you got called that at least once or twice this summer when you talked about tough hockey. Not necassarily enforcers but just tougher players.
-
There are tonnes of soft euro lovers on this site who call people like mewho are advocates of hard nosed, tough hockey knuckle draggers, grit slappies or tell posters like me to go cheer for Philly. This season noone has really said much since we're dressing an enforcer and all the people who were saying that ealrier have all kind of disappeared. Funny how that happened. To say that people weren't ridiculing guys like me for wanting a tougher line up is just ridiculous. This past summer if you brought up the topic of enforcer or even a tougher player you didn't hear the end of it.

We already have a surplus in the system as it is. I would go for a pure goal scorer because outside of Tatar that seems to be what the pipe line lacks. Maybe a rugged forward that can score goals like Kassian last year if available around our pick. A stay at home defenseman wouldn't be bad but I wouldn't say first round. I think the one thing for sure we don't need is a goaltender.

Yeah but May has had way more games and as the games went on for Newbury he looked more in place. And southern wings fan I'm assuming you think I'm an enforcer slappy so I'll answer for "our kind ". Newbury isn't that big and rarely fights but the fact is that he is capable. He also does have a bit of a nose for the net. He has earned a call up more then Ritola thats the problem, he does hit and he can fight and will score occasionally. Thats more then Ritola will do. Its a part of hockey and this season it seems like you soft euro lovers have been around less talking about how useless enforcers are now that we're dressing a fairly tough line up. You're in the minority.

I think everyone liked how Newbury was playing because he was throwing some big hits and played with some fire. He'll also stick up for teammates whichthis team lacks outside of May. Newbury is fun to watch out there and has the ability to score with his grit. Ritola is a softer player that hasn't been scoring as much as Newbury. Thats why I like him at least.

Obviously everyone offers their own unique skill set but to not compare people to other wings or other players is silly. Players all have roles and style of play and players can share this, kind of like how I thought Ab coould be a Mccarty type but now that I hear it I think the Drake comparison is alot closer to what I was looking for. With a bit more scoring then Drake.

Newbury has the speed of a solid NHLer. If he doesn't get another shot or called up during playoffs I'll be upset. At this point he'll be better then Maltby I honestly think and could have a shot at the roster next year.
-
Yeah the true fan police are out because hitting is just as much a part of hockey as goal scoring and that was a thing of beauty. If you don't want that in the game then watch something else, don't complain about a clean hit (not saying you are but I mean people in general)
-
Seems to me like he has all the tools to be a 10 fight a year guy if he can't hack it as a goal scorer. Big body, strong, plays physical. Either way I thik he should listen to Babcocka nd start fighting more
-
Yeah I get frustrated how in games liek that guys who have shown they can fight like Abdelkader get a perfect excuse to tee off on a division rival's star player's head and our team just sits there and acts like nothing happened. Plays like that can really set the tone for playoffs and so on, the wings have capable scrappers, May is just the only one doing it.
-
He must be really disappointed about teh injury this season. Would have had a shot at playing for the wings this year with all the injuries.
-
Yeah I'm really liking this draft pick. This kid is such a gamer, he's under 6 feet but will fight anyone. He doesn't pick spots and fight just people his size. I'm sure you like this pick to eh uk you seem to be one of the few that get it around here. The goal scoring improvement could be an indication that his skating has improved but thats just a guess.

The commentator said something about Babs teling him to fight more and that Babs told him he's allowed to punish guys in fights now in the NHL. And eva yeah he has potential to score more then Mac I see him as maybe a 50 point season type guy, I just meant next Mccarty in the sense that he can produce and still fight when called on. From what I've read he had a few fights with the Griffs last year and beat a couple guys up pretty good. Lately he's seemed more apt to the rough stuff after whistles and stuff

We might as well goon it up with Janik Newbury May Abs and Bert in the line up. If we're gonna lose might as well send a message that we're gonna take it to you if you wanna beat us. Make teams think twice about crashing the net, think twice about hitting one of our stars etc. If you can't beat them might as well try to intimidate.
-
Today with May, Newbury,Janik, Bert and Abdelkader all in the line up you think that we could manage to goon a little bit. I saw Newbury trying to fight twice once on Fraser at center ice and he gave Kopecky a hot after that hit on the icing. This team lacks fire.
-
Time for Newbury to show what he's made of. I'm thinking Newbury and Fraser in a middleweight bout tonight. Don't really see May going unless he has to after last night's awesome tilt.

Happy birthday Stajan, your present from Boychuk..... A lesson on keeping your head up through the neutral zone. Beautiful hit people saying this is dirty aren't true fans of the classic game of hockey with big hits and skill.

In a hockey dressing room theres always one guy in the room who is looked up to as the toughest guy and the protector. If that guy fights off a face off and gets beat down by another teams tough guy that can crush another team. I know in my hockey thats sure how it works and if your tough guy gets beat up you lose a sense of security out there.
