Yeah because Bertuzzi went out there planning on breaking the guys neck. The guy took a headshot at his captain who at the time was a 50 goal scorer and put him out. Then Moore was chirping and whacking guys all game the next game. Bert wanted him to go, Moore kept chirping and running at guys. Bertuzzi stuck up for his captain and unfortunately the guys neck got broken but I tihnk it was the pile up after that did it. I'm not saying we should break guys necks but having a guy who has proven he'll stick up for his team goes a long way I think. Its too bad what happened but if Moore wasn't acting like such alittle ***** it wouldn't have happened.

This is exactly what I was thinking

With free agent season slowing down and training camp getting closer who do you guys think we may see here on a tryout type basis. I would love to see Mark Bell. The place for him to turn it around is Detroit, brings size, skill and toughness. Could probably be signed cheap and would make our 4th line tougher to play against. I would love to see him here and think its a realistic possibility since Kenny said he wants a gritty presence. Any others you would like to see and could be a realistic possibility?

People over exaggerate the amount of dumb penalties Bertuzzi takes. Obviously he takes a bit more then your average player but when you play the style of game Bertuzzi plays you're going to take more penalties then most. He crashes the net hard, runs guys, will fight and doesn't take s*** from people. I would rather have a guy like that on our team and have a few more penalties to kill then ice our current roster.

Yeah but Malts is gone after this year so why not bring in a young guy who essentially is going to play a 4th line role and could develop into more like Stauby? Unless the wings are hoping to fill this role with someone like Oulahen or Tardiff. Can anyone here comment on whether Tardiff has the speed to keep up with an NHL game or if he throws his weight around much? I've heard plenty about Oulahen but haven't heard much of Tardiff. Someone who actually has a decent grasp on this guys talent comment please

Why not? He would offer less so he wouldn't give up as many draft picks and its not like theres any huge superstar RFA's to save an offer sheet for. I doubt he would do it but not because he doesn't want to waste an offer sheet on a solid 3rdliner.
-
He said in an article closer to the start of summer that he wanted to sign a veteran gritty player. With most of the vets off the board at this point I think a signing like Bell who has some experience could be possible. I beleive the article was on Mlive when Holland said it.

Oh thats right I forgot this is LGW afterall. How could I forget that. Ya its too bad some of these guys here didn't open their eyes to what guys that play this style of game on teh bottom lines could do for a team eh? Oh well what can you do.
-
He's not an enforcer and he's only 24. He could be a decent 3rd liner that brings punishment with some developing time. He obvioulsy wouldn't make the team this year but one or two down the road he could.
-
That was right on the button. The thing about TK is he can PK, chip in some goals and play a regular shift. Even if he doesn't win fights I give him props for showing up as much as he does. Is he still a free agent? Wouldn't mind seeing him invited to camp

Lilja isn't the type that goes out looking for fights though. He defends himself which I am completely fine with but with an enforcer in the lineup he wouldn't have been the one out there doing that to Weber instead of Lilja trying to get something going because they were losing. People will fight without an enforcer in the lineup yes. With an enforcer in the lineup you have someone who can actually fight well and do the dirty work when youre losing big time instead of Lilja. And do you remember 2008 when Mclaren smacked Z in the face with his stick? or maybe he got ran into the glass, I forget because 2 things happened around that time. Downey went out there, kicked Mclarens ass and we didn't hear anythingm from him the rest of the season.
-
They aren't going to help win games in the playoffs but they can be a help through the playoffs during the regular season. They keep the flies off the stars and keep the other goons that would be out there running people in the box for 5 minutes or out there trying to get them instead of running hank or pav. And that Lilja thing was definitely him saying we're down by alot I'm going to do something dirty. You wouldn't have seen him do that in a 2-1 game. That wasn't a hit that was a face grab and rip backwards. Weber did what he should've done when that happens to him. I just think its too bad that the wings don't have someone who could do what Weber did when s*** lke that happens to them.
-
I agree with this right here. In a perfect world when the score gets like that either a) your 6th defenseman who plays a hard nosed game should be able to stick up fr himself half decent. Not really the case with Lilja or b) you actually have a legit tough guy (notice I didn't say goon) who says I'll do the dirty work so Andreas who sucks at fighting doesn't have to.

I didn't put words in your mouth. I said I don't understand what the fascination here about the wings being classy. You might not have meant it as the on ice product and just the front office, but I said the people on thos board. UNDERSTAND MY POINT PLEASE. I'm not saying it would make the regular season more fun, I think it can help them when playoffs roll around. Sure the guy won't be playing in playoffs if we have an enforcer but he'll help with less wear and tear on our stars through the season. Once the playoffs get here put the guy in the press box and play abby but until then yu might as well play him.
-
I don't see what the fascination is that people have on this board about the wings being classy. I love how they have a classy front office sure and that entices players to come here. But come on people this is hockey its supopsed to be a rough, violent sport, not a classy one. They aren't out there having tea with the queen or something, they are playing one of the toughest sports on earth. And my remark about the regular season I wasn't saying it would improve their point totals. I meant it could keep the flies off a bit from other players and bring some more energy to games, I don't think it will hurt or increase their chances at the president's trophy.

02 was a long time ago and with Ozzy as your starter the backup gets a pretty big amount of responsibility because Ozzy is getting older. Oh and he needs his rest to make conn smythe worthy cup runs.
-
Theres this 82 game thing they have before cup runs called the regular season. You must've heard of it, yeah it won't hurt a team if they have someone who can deliver ice justice. Its not needed in the playoffs since the team steps it up in all facets of the game but the season is where it could help.
-
Its pretty obvious unless some grit makes the team out of camp
-
Not to start an toughness argument here or anything but to say hockey isn't a violent sport is dumb. Hockey is one of the most violent sports going and to say that those guys playing through injuries are tougher then your average goon would be a lie as well. But anyways that was a good read, I liked the rangers one the most.

You talk about me needing to address points instead of act macho but where exactly are all these fool hardy arguments you're placing before me from your debate class? Now you're talking about how Drake played but before when I've said we need a tough guy like Drake and it will help this team you argue we need to score goals not have a hard hitting, capable of playing grinder who can also stick up for himself and others. You need to piick which side you're on. You clearly don't want a goon but when I talk about how having a Drake type wouldn't hurt you ramble on about religion and how we need to score goals. Then you try to say Drake could score. No, he was there for energy, hitting and his mean streak. He wasn't relied on for scoring at all. So when I say I want a Drake type you tal about how they're useless and then you go on to say it later. I'll say it again I don't care if we have a huge goon that gets 30 fights a year but a guy like Drake who can handle himself, hitsd and has a mean streak is what I want. Get your story straight.
-
If you consider that post a personal attack then I see why you hate goons, you're clearly as soft as microwaved butter. Once again I'm not slobbering all over goons, let me know when you can find some posts to substantiate that I actually have suggested some big goon and not just some hard nosed grinders that can defend themselves. Now you'll make up some crap about a personal attack or some religious fighting belief because you yourself don't respond to posts without personal attack. Fighting isn't just supposed to be a deterrent, it buids a sense of team and can swing momentum as well. These are also things you wouldn't realize because you've never played a hockey game in your life. Hopefully that post wasn't too full of personal attacks for your sensitive self to handle and I'm ready for your next post and all the religious comments and complaints of personal attacks.
-
All you do is ridicule people who want toughness on this team. I've never said I want some 6'5 guy that can only fight. Yiou like to talk about how people don't read your posts before they respond but maybe you should give it a try sometime. I've said I want a tough grinder on this team, you call me out for wanting a goon. I say I want someone like Drake, you talk about how he was never a fighter and try to contradict my posts like that as well. You're not happy if I say I want a goon and you're not happy when I say I want a toguh grinder who can stick up for himself. I'm not a goon lover, I'm someone who sees the toughnses department an area Detroit could improve on. You're never perfect. Oh and your religious bulls*** you ramble on about everyother post, its a two way street. Your soft hockey loving, europen hockey fanatic, never touched the ice in my life but think I know something about how it is on the ice self sonuds pretty religious in how you worship any hockey that isn't tough.
-
I really don't think that has much of anything to do with it. Toronto fans are some of the most die hard fans I know. I think it has more to do with immigration as a whole but don't worry by 2nd generation we'll have them all watching hockey just about .
-
No you post away I really don't care. You seem to know that hockey isn't just a game of goal scoring. Shoreline on the other hand just can't grasp the fact that a tough grinder is a plus for a team. You seem to know what you're talking about. I wasn't saying noone who hasn't played hockey would understand, I meant it in teh case of Shoreline that must be the reason. Sorry about that.
