    Any grinders left?

I would love any of these guys. I really think the wings could turn Bell around and get his head on straight. Andre Roy? Sure why not as the 13th forward its not like Mlatby really brings anything special anymore, at least Roy brings one think he can do well. Hinote is a good hitter and fights sometimes so thats not a bad option either. I hope its not Mcgrath, I want Oulahen way more. He kind of hits and is a great PK/character player.

    Goon

I wouldnt expect someone like you to understand other aspects of hockey like grinding and fighting. You clearly have never strapped on the skates and played a game yourself. You're just some guy from California who sits on his couch all winter, orders NHL center ice, watches a couple games and thinks he understands what its like out there on the ice. Its too bad because you're really missing out on an important aspect of the game that you notice while on the ice much more then in the stands ( on the couch in your case). And as for the Mcguire incident the linesman had ahold of Probie right from the get go because they knew the damage he could do. I guarantee you Mcguire didn't mess around with any RedWings after that point when Probert got loose on him. You never see people who have played the game say that they want fighting out of hockey like you do. Once again this is because you've never played a game in your life. Guys like Mickey Redmond and even that kid who almost died last year in a fight say that fighting is in hockey to stay. I know I'm repeating myself but I'll say this once more so everyone gets it loud and clear... If you haven't played the game, you wouldn't understand so don't bother trying too. (unless you played in Europe of course)

    13th Forward Options

Okay we either sign one more player or fill the 13th forward spot by someone from within the organization. The more likely candidates are. Ryan Oulahen - seems the most likely player to get a shot depending on how camp goes. Strong defensively and a pretty big body. Evan Mcgrath - I don't really see what he brings in the 13th role. Incosistent but maybe someone who knows more about him can weigh in? Kris Newbury - Little ball of hate out there. Brings some sandpaper which we need. Fast skater that scores well in AHL and will drop the mitts occasionally. Jeremy Williams - Can score with is wicked shot. Doesn't skate well and in the 13th role do we really need a scorer? I think the most likely players are Oulahen and Newbury. Maybe someone who knows a little more on the subject could help fill me in on what they bring, especially Oulahen. He's big and defensively sound but can he throw the body around at all? Is he that much better then Newbury?

    Goon

Holland din't think those guys could contribute scoring or anything. He brought them in as fighters plain and simple. And I wasn't saying that Downey is as useful as Hossa but by your logic what I said is true. So if you don't agree with what I said then your logic is flawed. Thanks for proving my point though. Holland didn't have cap space last year to sign a goon but the year before he played Downey and had Drake on the roster. Drake is no goon but he's a hard nosed player which you don't even seem to want. According to you it seems if they don't wear a too too and carry a purse you don't want them on the team.

Who will score more points next year?

I Cleary is playing on the top line like I tihnk he deserves and plays like this years playoffs then he's a shoe in IMO. If he's getting 3rd line minutes then its much harder to say.
  7. newfy

    Goon

Your logic is stuipd. Obviously Kenny brought them in to play as a goon. Downey played over 50 games and almost the whole end of the season once we lost Ellis. Hossa left at the end of this season, does that mean he gets rid of 40 goal scorers too? By what you are saying it does.

    The FINAL ROSTER is SET...lines?

Mark Bell could be that guy if the wings go out on a limb and sign him out of camp maybe. IMO he would look good in a winged wheel and brings alot of what this team likes and needs.
  9. newfy

    what about ferraro ?

Yeah I see him as a 2nd line goal scorer with wheels that finishes hits. But if he's willing you can expect he'll get in fights. As a hopefully top 2 line player and a bit of a physical side he'll be targeted by other teams for sure. I just don't see him laying down and taking it like most wings do nowadays. He's a brightspot on teh wings future for sure I think in the grit department along with Abs. And Williams as listed as only having one fight ever on hockeyfights but maybe they missed some in Jr or something?

    13th Forward Options

I woudl think the way the wings season their prospects in the minors for a year or 2 at least he won't be considered to highly unless he has a monster camp.

    Lidstrom VS Broduer

OK honestly people. If you don't think Brodeur is a top 5 goalie of all time lay off the crack pipe a bit. People are putting Cujo and Eddy the Eagle above him, thats just plain retarded. Just because he's beating our beloved Lidstrom in some stupid poll doesn't mean you have to tear his career apart. The he's a product of the system, if you're in New Jersey you're bound to win cups is stupid. The exact same thing about Lidstrom could be said. Lidstrom played with alot of greats here in Detroit so stop trying to downplay what Brodeur did for New Jersey. I think Brodeur was more important in their cup wins the Lidstrom was here. Marty never really played with outstanding talent like Nick has here in Detroit. They're both great players and I'm not on here ripping Lidtrom by any means but seriously people shut up, you sound retarded. (especially whoever put Cujo and Eddy above Marty)
  12. newfy

    what about ferraro ?

Actually not Williams. He's only had one fight his entire career including major junior. And it was against Arron Asham, horrible choice for your one and only scrap.

    Does Ericsson make Lilja expendable?

Lilja is our only true stay at home defenseman. He kind of provides alot of intangibles this team lacks without him. He blocks shots, is aggressive on the body and will fight ( maybe not well but he's at least willing) Would love a big rig + Lilja pairing but the chances seem slim at this point.

Ken Holland about next years roster and williams

I second that. The way he said cheer for another team you would think the guy was talking about wanting a fighter or something. Geeze
  15. newfy

    what about ferraro ?

He's basically a Helm with scoring. I really hope this kid makes the World Junior team this year. And whoever said he probably won't fight in the NHL, this kid is feisty. He fought Kyle Beach who I'm pretty sure oyu all know but I'll say anyways is a big kid and one of the better fighters in the dub.

    The FINAL ROSTER is SET...lines?

All this talk about a 13th forward and some grit has me thinking. Since Williams(Jeremy) is a scorer they probably won't want him as their 13th forward. Why not bring some speed and an edge with the 13th forward with Kris Newbury. He's really fast, gets in on the forecheck and will scrap occasionally. He scores alot in the AHL so who knows maybe he and Oulahen duke it out in camp for that final spot?

IF we sign prospal...whats his role?

With toughess comes hitting. I'm not talking about like Kopecky leading the team in hits but never knocking a guy over hitting here. Someone that hits to hurt. We have Kronwall and Stuart but noone upfront to do that. The types of guys upfront that hit to hurt like that usually tend to fight. I'm not sure why you're so opposed to this type of player and its official you haven't denied it so I'm thinking you have never played hockey so I wouldn't expect you to understand this side of a game.

Wings sign Patrick Eaves to 1-year/$500k deal

I was expecting him to sign somewhere around 1 million or so.

IF we sign prospal...whats his role?

By the sounds of some of the things you say I wouldn't be surprised if you mixed up offsides and icing really. Forget about fighting, we don't even have anyone who really hits on the bottom 2 lines except Helm. I'm going to go ahead and assume you've never played a game of hockey in your life because that physical side of the game is often almost as important as goal scoring. Momentum is a real thing and physical play changes that quite easily, noone says Boogard is going to scare guys off the ice but you don't think some of his fights or big hits have ever swung the momentum in a game or made his team want to up the tempo? I'm not saying we need a heavyweight fighter but someone who can swing some momentum everynow and then wouldn't hurt. Basically someone whose play isn't based on points but the number of guys they can hit on a night or sticking up for teammates when they need to.

IF we sign prospal...whats his role?

The problem with your point of view is that you think a team has to be all skilled players top to bottom. A team should have a thing called balance. None of us "fight" fans ever complain our top lines have Dats, Z, Mule and other skilled goal scoring Euros on them. Its the bottom lines that don't score anyways that we would like some toughness on. I don't get where you see the problem with having people on the 4th line or 3rd that can hit and fight instead of score goals? You must not have played too much hockey in your life down in California or you would know teams need these types of guys.

IF we sign prospal...whats his role?

Might as well get Lapointe while you're at it, unless the cap hit is too high

    next move?

That leaves us with a third line consisting of 2 rookies and one underachieving 25 year old with something to prove? nothx The man love for Grier comes from the fact that he brings something this team desn't really have right now. A gritty third line player that can PK and play it rough. I can see Bertuzzi putting up just as many points as Prospal in the right situation while bring that physical side. And just to point this out Prospal and Grier are the same age.

Wings sign Patrick Eaves to 1-year/$500k deal

No thats a huge plus if you have 60 point scorers on your third line but in the cap world its not likely. Energy is what you look for first from the third line and solid defensive play. Any scoring on top of that is great.
