I don't think face off ability should really be a reason for us to sign someone. Its honestly one of the last things we need with Draper, Helm has shown he's quite good and the rest of the wings centerman. I just wish our 4th line could bring a physical presence or some kind of presence at all unlike last year.

Why wait til the deadline to make the trade. Prices are high at the deadline and holland has said he's going to make a deal for a defenceman after camp. Trade for a decent scoring forward then if you really want it but i dont think the wings need more goalscorers anyways

Moen isnt a fighter that can't skate, he plays 12-14 minutes, hell I wouldnt even call him a fighter I would call him a gritty, great on the penalty killing forward who is willing to fight but isnt some meat head that goes looking for it all the time. He's exactly what this team needs, PK help and toughness help while playing a regular shift I don't see why people wouldnt wanna sign him

Their offence isnt quite as anemic as you would think. Blake said the cancer didnt affect his play but i think it did he could come back with a strong season. Hagman can put up 25 goals, Kulemin is going to be a top 6 forward in the nhl, they signed Bozak and Hnason who might help, Stempniak and tlusti are no slouches. I'm not saying their offence is amazing but theyre not in that bad of shape. If the monster and the d really do some damage they wont need to score a whole lot anyways. I've been hearing rumours of kaberle for Sharpe? Sharpe would really help as well but theres noone to get the puck to the forwards besides stralman if that happens

A guy like moen is young and brings something the wings dont have alot of outside of helm... energy. With alot less scoring possibly this year getting the 3rd or 4th line out there and having someone responsible defensively on the line so we wont need to be worried about getting scored on sounds good to me. Especially if this player can chuck knuckles like moen

I dont think anyone is saying moen is going to score that much, it seems like everyone thinks he'll help defensively(meaning the other team scores less) i think its safe to say moen wont replace hossas scoring.

we already have a top 6 forward on this team with no finish eventhough he is finnish in filpulla, we dont need another soft player skating around in the red and white especially one that doesnt score.

if moen is off the table then why not? it couldnt hurt at the worst he provides a little grit and doesnt contribute any points. At least he would provide some grit which is more then maltby or draper do at this point.

Sundin seems like another hossa type player. He's a cancer in the playoffs, the leafs made it to the conference finals in 02 against carolina i beleive with Sundin injured, as soon as he came back they lost. I don't like the idea of another end of their career, veteran, used to be good player on detroits roster. We already ahve enough of those for my liking

Good Post. I agree the top 6 are as good as any in the league but its the grinders who seemed to kind of let us down this past season and playoffs. Drapes and Maltby did nothing in the playoffs, it would be nice to get some fresh faces on the bottom 2 lines this season and i think thats what Kenny has planned.

A person like Lang is useless on the bottom lines. He's lazy and the bottom lines are supposed to come out and provide some energy for the team. He's a goal scorer and the top lines have enough guys like that.. we should be signing someone who can go out and add a dimension this team doesnt have. Someone whose good on the PK, can chip in offensively, will lay huge hits, fight half decent and is defensively responsible. Sounds an awful lot like Travis Moen

I'm not saying Mark Bell is our saviour or anything like that. He obviously won't replace the goal scoring we lost with hudler if he goes but it would be nice to have a guy like that. And who knows on the wings he could turn into a force and surprise some people.

Really? I think Bell has the ability to fight better then Drake. He's much bigger at 6'4" and isnt scared to go with some of the smaller heavies. I'll agree he is no Downey when it comes to throwing down though.

Bell was picked up off waivers by new york this year, his career is in teh gutter right now.. if we really wanted to add some bottom line guys with an edge i'm guessing we could sign bell to a very low contract possibly league minimum, he would probably be happy with just getting a chance. With a low cap hit on bell we might still have the space to sign moen..... moen helm and bell would be a hell of a 3rd line, responsible defencively, chip in the odd goal and hammer the opposition

seems like a player who doesnt fight very often but when he does he can handle himself pretty well.... against middleweights anyways

I think having leino should be a good replacement for huds... replace huds with leino add some sandpaper with moen and our team isnt looking too shabby at all

What about ethan moreau? If Lidstrom does retire when his contract is up we could maybe use some leadership and moreau is a great leader. Also he can play and be abrasive like so many people here including myself would love on this team

Hi everyone I'm new to the forum but I've been a reader here for quite a while now and finally decided I would join. Newbury is a really feisty player but he's a better skater then he is a fighter even though he is willing. I saw alot of him back in his sarnia sting days when I had season tickets so I thought I could chime in about him a little bit. Piche is not a scrapper by any means, he got into one at the mem cup this year against another non fighter from Windsor but thats about all for him. He's a solid puck moving defenceman not a fighter.
