I was guessing a couple so this doesnt bother me. Shanny got it right

Sorry but I just dont see it as bad personally. There is not a single person in the NHL that is from any of those countries and the countries that actually have the NHL teams in them have never came as close to anything like that. Its still also not nearly as bad as what black people had happen to them. I never said it doesnt mean anything, but its a USA/Canada thing pretty much exclusively that finds the term ****** as derogatory. I'm not saying it should be thrown around but it really racks my brain that anyone would think those terms are even in the same ball park as far as offensiveness goes
-
Am I the only one that thinks the Simmonds incident isnt really compareable? Calling someone a ****** does have sexual overtones but isnt really exclusively used to put down gays. If I had to guess I would say Barch called him a n*****. A word that was used while blacks were enslaved, raped, killed etc. That hasnt happened to gays, and therefore in my eyes isn't nearly as bad. If he did call him the n word though, I expect a decent suspension. It is funny that guys often throw dirty hits all the time, dont get suspended but someone calls someone a mean name and theyre going to get the book thrown at them

Jurcos biggest knock was consistency, now hes finding it. He could turn out to be a stud. Its hard to get excited for big numbers when hes playing in the q however
-
He played a really good game against the Blues tonight and was VERY physical I thought. I dont really see a difference between what he provides and what Kindl does to be honest. I also found it weird how we have all been harping on guys like Ericcson and Abdelkader to toughen up out there, tonight they were all mixing it up and playing tough. Commodore had a run taken at him, and ABdelkader went and gave Crombeen a shot and next thing you know gloves were on the ice ( refs jumped in). It just seemed like this team was playing a bit tougher when this guy is out there, I know its a small sample size but when stepping up against a team like the Blues who I hate happens, I cant help but notice. I didnt catch the calgary game but read that he played solid as well and asked Jackman to drop the gloves a couple times as well. There was another time when Ericcson was giving someone a shot infront of Howard when he had it covered, and Commie cam right over and got in there. This team never swarms guys like that but Commie has the right mentality.Commodore in the lineup happened right after Jimmy was complaining about getting hit, I dont think its a secret why hes in there and it seems like having him will most likely lead to a more team tough mentality. Once he gets into a couple more games itll be better to judge but he has looked good so far, glad to see hes taking his opportunity and going with it
-
What the hell game were you watching? I guess you see what you want to see because Commie in his limited ice time was throwing the body a lot. Datsyuk pops Jackman once under the chin and all of a sudden hes the cog of the physical play? He does well for himself physically, but if Datsyuk is this teams cog to being physical than something isnt right. Kindl being more physical is a joke though, get your eyes checked
-
What has Kindl done this year really? He plays sheltered minutes and only even strength. DO you honestly think he would look better than Ericcson if he was eating up E's PK time? I sure dont As for Commodore, he didnt get beat once tonight and is probably just starting to get back in game shape really after a solid preseason. I think theres no real difference between Kindl and Commodore just that Commodore is tougher to play against he had 3 or 4 pretty big hits tonights

From Mlive Howard has scrapped several times this season with players who have made contact with him. "Z never pushed him. I watched the replay," Howard said. "Hansen leans into him, he loses his footing, just steamrolls me. "I’m just sick and tired of getting run over. It’s every single game." I've always thought that its cool to have Howard who wont back down from anyone and has a couple scrappy moments to his name with the wings, but this is starting to get ridiculous. The goalie on a hockey team should not be the one always defending himself and his teammates. The fact that Howard is the one that has went after the most guys for hitting him on the team is pathetic really. A guy nails him last night, gets up and has the guts to hit Lidstrom and Howard is the only one that will do something about it. Its clearly bugging Howard if he went to the press about it. Its time this team started sticking up for its goalie. In hockey that is your number 1 priority, you are taught that from day 1. Even if the players thought Z pushed hansen in last night, as soon as Howard went after the guy, the whole team should've been in there to show their goalie theyve got his back and that we'll defend you just worry about stopping pucks. Last year it happened with the San Jose guys snowing him, he was the only one who did anything to Crosby, this year he already went after Perron and Hansen. Its embarrassing really

Hard to play that style of game when any other team will be looking for fights after, and you have noone to back you up. Abdelkader in Grand Rapids just happened to be playing on one of the toughest teams in the league, I dont think its a coincidence that some of it rubbed off on him. It was just like when May was here, guys like Cleary and Meech were scrapping than as soon as he was sent down there was none of that. Its a team mentality thing -

I wouldnt want Colton Orr. Give me Mike Brown or Jay Rosehill from the leafs, Orr just isnt a guy that could work with the wings system I dont think. Brown and Rosehill can be every day lineup players who are good on the forecheck and also fight. And yea I do remember that rumour and they did sign May, when a wings rumour gets started on that site it usually has some truth to it because the only time people will talk about the wings otherwise is to chirp them. I would think though that Holland is shopping for a Colton Orr type but looking to add a Mike Brown type to the bottom 6. There was a guy on here saying that he heard from a source that Eaves wasnt playing much because the bottom 6 guys were being showcased. Millers game right now could probably add a tough 4th liner who can play a bit. He may be looking more at a guy like Moen since Motreal is garbage and he can actually play hockey. Or maybe trading Kindl, and bringing up Smith could help address this problem. Move Kindl for Moen or someone like that and put Smith in his place and all of a sudden the team is much tougher. Speaking of which, do you have video of smiths last fight with Rouseel UK? -

Yeah I tried to make that clear in my first post, an enforcer is definitely not the solution to this problem but a couple guys who are willing to actually scrap or go after someone would definitely help. This would make the other guys on the team feel a bit tougher knowing someone has their back. Abdelkader is a good complimentary tough player and scrappy guy, but shouldnt be the toughest forward on the team. All it would take is one guy to mug someone after a play like this, and the whole team would follow suit, it just seems like noone on the wings is willing to be the first guy in because they arent sure if theyll have any backup at all Hes the type of player that could help. Scrappy and can play decent minutes but not an enforcer. Just a guy who knows when to stick up for his teammates. With our 4th line center spot being a void I would love to see him in there somehow -

Thats the problem. The refs dont call it so something needs to be done, I dont even think an enforcer is necessary to fix this problem just bring in some rougher style of players that can deal with this kind of stuff when they need to. The PP is our enforcer crap didnt enforce anything last night, Howard is the only one that tries to enforce anything on this team. I bet Howard really feels like the team around him has his back now too This to me almost seems like Howard, our Vezina calibre goalie, is calling out his team really -
http://thehockeywriters.com/phoenix-coyotes-sign-kyle-turris-trade-speculation-can-begin/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter Hockey writers seem to think that Detroit is actually the front runner for Turris now that he is signed. His cap hit is only 1.4 million. The price they suggest would be a second round pick and mid level prospect like Ferraro. I think it would be dumb of kenny to not pull the trigger on that trade, the kid still has a tonne of skill. Detroit is known for reviving guys like this. I could see him becoming a second line center, 60 point guy. He is only 22, most wings prospects dont even make the NHL by that age. Getting a young talent who has potential would be great, he could still even hit the potential he was thought to once have and become an 80 point guy. At 1.4 million a year it wouldnt really even affect offseason plans either, like adding Suter or Parise. The writers are a better source than someone like Eklund as well
-
Drake you see alot of griffins games, whats your opinion of Ferraro?
-
Ferraro has always got ragged on because everyone thought he was going to be a 30+ goal scorers in the NHL, and after his draft year hes got injured and hasnt done much. A lot of people questioned why the wings gave him a contract so early, but watching him play I can see why. He has absolutely blazing speed, maybe not quite as fast as Helm but hes on a Mursak level for sure. He is physical (probably more consistently physical than Helm) and he can PK really good too because of his speed. He may not be that big scoring winger everyone thought he should be, but for a second round pick and seeing this kid play a lot this season, I think another Darren Helm is waiting in the wings. Hes finding his stride in Grand Rapids and has 8 points in his last 9 games, pretty good off the fourth line. He already has more goals and points than Mursak did in his Grand Rapids rookie year, and is on pace for just about what Helm had in his. I remember one goal he blew around the defenseman and absolutely shelfed the puck, still seems to have that natural finish Helm never has had Hes also not scared to fight a bit, hes not the best fighter but could probably help handle the pests at the NHL level He'll do things like this http://www.hockeyfights.com/fights/107200 , stepping up and protecting the teams best dman. Overall I think we're looking at another Helm type player, maybe a bit more offensive and not quite as amazing on the PK but a guy who will become a fan favourite. He's really impressed me so far with that offensive punch he has given the griffins fourth line. 2nd round pick not wasted
-
Yeah and one was him putting someone on his ass infront of Howard, that makes one defenseman willing to do that. Ericcson hasnt been worth his money this season, but he has been solid and definitely not terrible like some people want to make him out to be. Hudler is playing well right now too, this team is firing on all cylinders really
-
Ive never understood this mentality. Why is this the case, a 24 year old dman is nice to have cause hes young and he has a bit of potential, but its quite obvious hes no Lidstrom replacement.. He only plays at even strength. Especially with Smith coming up next season, it really makes Kindl expendable. I also think we all love Helm but I dont tihnk hes untouchable. If Calgary offered Iginla for Helm straight up at the deadline I think the wings do it, but not for those other guys they wouldnt
-
With more physical, no I wouldnt say that. As wings fans we know what Franzen is like. I would say, being effectively physical is equated with size however. Hudler has been actually throwing his weight around a bit this year, same with Connor but when those guys are setting up the cycle (which this article is considering physical), those 2 get manhandled in the corner and the cycle is broken up. When Bertuzzi and Abdelkader decide to protect the puck down low, he doesnt get knocked off of it, cant say the same about Hudler, Connor or a few others. Its a nice thought to think that its all about the size of the fight in the dog, but in pro sports its often the bigger dog who wins those battles
-
I agree with the theyre winning part and even mentioned in my post, but with physicality playing a big role in hockey, it shouldnt be something that a coach has to praise. It should be second nature that they guys are going to play physical on the other team. This team doesnt really have anything to go to when the skill doesnt work, which in a playoff series you might as well for one game if youre getting blown out put the fear of god into the other team and wear them down a bit. As long as theyre winning I'm happy, but once they stop winning because the skill isnt working I'll be on my usual rant once again
-
No history of success in the NHL isnt saying much when the kid was playing at an age where most wings prospects are just starting the AHL. And theres no basis in fact for anything when predicting the future but from watching him play, hes a speedy center with solid hands and a solid shot. Playing in a system like Detriots with better players I think he could be a 50 point guy. You saying he is a bust also has no basis in fact
-
Link? It wasnt Dreger. Dreger reported a few teams that he thought had interest and said Calgary is out of the running but I didnt see anything about Detroit being out of it. He also reported that talks are heating up thanks to twitter which has me thinking there are quite a few teams inquiring about him
-
0 points in 6 games when he had no training camp or anything and is playing fourth line minutes for a coach that obviously doesnt like him and a team he doesnt want to be on. You guys are really picking a fair time to judge him. Anyways I heard on TSN maloney is asking a solid young player similar to Turris in age and potential (Kindl?)or a guy who can play now and a pick. So Kindl straight up might actually be enough, than slide Smith into his spot because hes good enough for the NHL now. Or Emmerton, Miller or Eaves plus a 3rd rounder maybe? Those seem like fair value for what his value has been put as. I think playing sheltered minutes with the wings and maybe getting a bit of PP time would see him develop properly and at the least he becomes a solid 50 point 2 way center. He could also hit his stride in Detroit where the system fits his style better and all of a sudden the top line of the future with Nyquist and Turris is secured
-
Babcock gets it. It seems when this team is losing (which isnt often now but in the past) they continually try to keep skilling their way around the rink even when it isnt working. WHich is very frustrating to watch. I still think if this team had a bit tougher bottom 6 and replaced guys like Emmerton or Miller who try to do the skill thing and cant play physical very well at all (especially Emmerton)the wings would be better off. Its not impossible to find guys who can play hockey and be tough to play against. Its not about finding a Milan Lucic, but there are guys out there that could play as much as Miller and Emmerton and be just as effective while providing the ability to set a physical tone. Kenny should be looking at Gaustad, Moen and Prust this offseason. There are other options and as much as people hate Tootoo, he has been playing great hockey and could be that physical spark Detroit needs. Daniel Winnik or Cody Mcleod could be good as well. I will say that the D is probably one of the more physical in the league actually and is pretty good in that regard now but the forwards need something. Any those guys above on the fourth line could help, or putting Shane Doan in the top 6 could as well. I know I'm gonna take heat for suggesting Tootoo because I know how everyone feels about him but hes already got 13 points and plays a very physical game. He also hasnt done anything cheap this year. He hit Miller but he was driving to the net hard. EDIT: -2 already LGW doesnt take long to disappoint. I'm assuming this is about what I said regarding Tootoo. Do any of you take the time to realize hes actually only 6 points off of what Abdelkader and Miller produced all of last season. The guy seemed to really turn the corner as a player instead of just a goon out there but oh well, you guys think what you want haha

Ive read what it means to be a wing and the good bad the ugly and Yzermans biography and all would be good gifts. I also read blood feud and thought it was probably the most interesting of the bunch. Cant go wrong with any

2008 third line of Cleary Draper Drake for the playoffs was by far the closest I would say
