11/23 GDT: Flames 3 at Red Wings 5

Haha my brother, myself and some buddies were at the joe and there ended up being some other rowdy (who were probably even more drunk than we were) mid 20 year old people right behind us. After Bert had that snipe on the breakaway against Ottawa we got the Todd Bertuzzi chant going, it was one of my prouder moments in life for sure

    Turris speculation

Hes playing decent in the NHL at an age where wings prospects would see no ice time, and hes been on a brutal team. He's also a 2 way, speedy center who would fit muh better into the wings system. He could definitely find his stride in Detroit much better than he would in Phoenix

Score lots of goals Dont let them score goals Someone tear Tom Kostopolous a new ******* for his hit on Stuart (Smith, time to shine in your other areas of expertise)

    Turris speculation

Yeah Maloney said he wasnt going to trade him unless he can sign him to a deal because he didnt want him going somewhere and signing dirt cheap, him signing actually means he will be traded now. Whether they could agree to a contract before the decemeber deadline where he wuoldnt be able to play at all this year was gonig to decide his fate. He obviously wants to play hockey, but its not going to be with the yotes

    Turris speculation

Yeah hes not going to command a whole lot and the yotes just want to get rid of him. Its a really low risk situation, why not go for it and hope he hits some of his point per game potential he once had. Who knows he still could hit it and become an 80 point 2 way centerman. Emmerton and a second round pick maybe would work too. The wings get a young player with potential. Yotes get a second round pick, and a young, solid defensive centerman that has room to grow into a pretty good third line center I think. They also get rid of a big headache for them and save a bit of cap.

    Brendan Smith watch thread

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2011/11/brendan_smith_excited_for_nhl.html Will be making his debut tonight officially. Playing with Kronwall I believe, keep your head up Thornton. Starting on the PP with lIdstrom too ! Hopefully he does well out there

    Turris speculation

Hes 22, he just needs to find his stride not get rejuvinated. If Detroit had a guy come up at 21 and put up over 30 points and 15 or so goals (what is what he was on pace for last year), everyone would eb absolutely praising the kid. Detroits puck possesion and better offense would only make him look even better too. Hes also a 2 way player, not just an offensive guy.

    Turris speculation

I think theyre talking about young prospects, I'm sure this writer thinks Datsyuk is good but hes 33 now(?). I would love to swap out Turris for Hudler in our lineup, basically give the young guyt Hudlers role and let him grow. A bit of PP time, third line minutes and some offensive ice time as well. I think Detroit would be a team given his skillset that could get the most out of Turris. He was third overall not long ago, JVR is just now hitting his stride from that draft. I would be willing to give up a bit more than that for him as well, but thats the ball park range needed I guess. I'm sure a few teams are scared off because he seems to have attitude problems so there will be less people bidding on him

A Lot to Consider for Zach Parise

With Parises age and ability I cant believe people wouldnt want to go for him at the deadline. This team would be a very, very serious contender if they got him. Yeah deals like Kovalchuk and Hossa seemed high at the time but thats the point. WHen you trade prospect theres never a sure thing. Tatar, Kindl and a first rounder would probably be close to what it takes to make that deal. Theres a chance Tatar becomes a producer, but they still arent that high. Most of the wings prospects wont come to the NHL until around 23. At that age Parise had 2 30 goal seasons, and on the verge of almost hitting 50. Hes one season removed from 40 goals and 80 points and still has probably 8 HIGHLY productive years left in him. Not all these prospects are going to pan out, should trade some while they have value for a proven commodity, than just hope that they arent the one that pans out

    Sheahan

Seems like its only Konnan, Aussie wing and myself ever in the prospects section so Ill post this here because its definitely worth people knowing. After being called a bust he put up around a ppg at the end of last season and dominated the world junior camp In 10 games this y ear he has 12 points and 4 goals. Last year he had 5 goals total and only 22 points. At this rate, he should be going to the AHL this upcoming season. He has unreal defense and the offense has finally turned a corner. With no size or toughness in the top lines with Tardif gone in grand rapids, Sheahan should be able to see ice time there, especially with Nyquist and Tatar probably leaving for the NHL after this season. Hes starting to really solidify himself as a top prospect since last christmas. Personally I like him more than Pulkkinen now actually. Anyways, its good to see a kid who a lot of people were already writing off as a third or 4th liner absolutely killing it this year offensively

Your writing is usually pretty solid and I dont disagree much with your rankings BUT there are a tonne of writers who are clueless on that website. Joke wasnt the right word to use at all but thats my point, a lot of it isnt first hand information which it sometimes seems like that site tries to come off as. And to add, I've never seen it done on this site but I would be curious to see if this site had a vote who would be the top ranked prospects

South Park Themed GDT on HFBoards

wow guys is that for serial? Perfect depiction of the Canadians I must say, haha when they play the penguins I wonder if they use man bear pig for tyler kennedy?

    Sheahan

Yeah its easy to forget how good defensively Franzen was when he first came into the league. He threw a lot of big hits too. Too bad he couldnt play like that still while scoring, he would be a force. Its rare powerforwards jump into the league right away, small speedy guys usually produce around the age of 23 24 25. I find that powerforwards really come into their own around 26 or so. Once they put on about as much muscle as possible, as well as getting experience. Corey Perry is a good example of this last year, Ryane Clowe as well. If Sheahan could become like CLowe I would be ecstatic

Kindl has been solid all yaer but I really think what allowed babs to use this pairing was the instant poise Smith brought to the NHL with him. I'm also willing to say that behind Lidstrom, he has the best shot from the point. His release is lightning fast (E should watch him) and the puck is perfect height while being very hard.

    11/20 GDT : Red Wings 4 at Ducks 2

Im feeling a big win today with Datsyuk getting on a role and a goal for Z. I also think Perry will be looking for a rookie defenseman to take his frustrations out on and unfortuantely for him the guy he finds will be Smith who will promptly pound his face in twice as bad as Ericcson did

Only played about 14 mins tonight but looked good out there and got his first point. I dont think he'll be out of the lineup for a while now. Looked pretty physical clearing the crease from what I saw as well. I know its only been 2 games but the kid looks like hes going to be a really good player

    Sheahan

I'm not quite sure if he'll ever be a top 6 guy but I'm startign to think even if he isnt, we could still have the best third line, selke potential third line shut down center in the league in a few years. That would still be awesome if he were to hit the level of like Dave Bolland or Jordan Staal. Could be OK second line cetners and get the job done but are amazing third liners

    Bottom Six Philosophy?

I dunno, did you see how much Datsyuk and Abdelkader were buzzing last night? Thats not beicause their skill levels mesh perfectly that was pure energy from Abdelkader being all over the puck all the time, hitting everything. Also last night, after the lead got outta hand Murray started running around throwing big hits and going out of his way to do so. Same with that ****** bag Brent Burns. Where was that from any of the wings to show Jumbo Joe and Marleau that if they wanna blow the wings out, theyll have some lumps to prove they did it? I dont mind losing, but losing and laying down like a bunch of cowards is pretty embarrassing as a fan

    Bottom Six Philosophy?

I've thought this for a while now. Its not about having a bunch if fighters either (which Im sure we'll have plenty of people saying soon). Our bottom 6 is definitely a weakness, theyre very soft besides Helm and Abdelkader. Drew Miller does nothing out there really, hes a dime a dozen 4th liner. Brunnstrom is useless on bottom lines and probably not skilled enouggh to crack the top 6 so whats the point of having him? Really the only people in our bottom 6 I would like to see kept for any significant amount of time are Helm, Abdelkader and Eaves. Ship out Miller, Brunnstrom,Bert and Homer are gone after this year. The wings should bring in at least one more big body on forward. Abdelkader is big and physical for the most part but really the wings have one gritty, big hitter in their entire forward core, not just the bottom 6. Roll with a bottom 6 of Abdelkader Helm Mursak (speed, all three have offensive upside, and all three bring some kind of physical element) Eaves Prust Moen Every single line is capable of playing the game well enough AND would chip in as much offense as what the bottom 6 does now. I seriously dont get why Kenny doesnt go after another physical player after seeing what Drake did for this team in the playoffs. Brunnstrom is getting played for some reason on our 4th line, whe nhe couldnt crack dallas or toronto it doesnt make any sense to me. Drew Miller providing nothing and still being given more than 1 year contracts doesnt make sense to me. I would keep Emmerton as the 13th forward because hes young and a center. edit: just to add, has anyone noticed that even when our skilled players are playing like dogs***, Helm and Abby have always seemed to play well and get constant pressure? Its because they play with grit, hard in the corners and are full of energy. More guys like that instead of wanna be scoring line players like Brunnstrom is what this team needs,

    2011-2012 NHL Fight Thread

Mcgratton is the toughest right now since Macintyre is down in Wiles Barre but with Boogard gone I really dont think anyone is even close to Big Mac. Mcgratton is probably right behind him however. I cant believe Rosehill stood in there that long, without even get his knees buckeled a bit

Yeah I try my best. As a University student I get a lot of free time for weeks at a time in between assignments and what not so I try to dig up some streams and watch the young guys play. Go to the local OHL games when I can and Sportsnet is starting to cover the CHL as well. I'm not going to pretend I'm some talent scout but I'll comment on the guys I've seen and hope others would do the same if they get to watch players that I dont. I havent seen Sheahan yet this season, but rfom what I saw last season the only thing lacking was offense. This season he has it so I'm sure he looks pretty damn good out there And yeah HF's converage of prospects is a joke really. They just go off scoutinr reports on the internet (most of which go off others from the net) and write like theyre professionals. Their grading system is pretty bad too. Theres some guys over there who really follow the prospects and get to watch games though, the posters are worht reading, not the writers lol

Over 17 minutes even strength and over 2 mins on the PP. He lookd realy poised out there, especially for it being his debut. Overall I was impressed with his game tonight for sure. I tihnk he'll be in while whites hurt full time. His shot and ability to walk the line on the PP look deadly, He played 1 second less than Stuart, and Lidstrom was the only other guy with more time on ice than him

11/17 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Sharks 5

Franzen-Datsyuk-Abdelkader Filppula-Zetterberg-Cleary Hudler-Helm-Brunnstrom Miller-Emmerton-Holmstrom Abdelkader on the top line, give em hell. Hopefully he can reenergize Datsyuk a bit. Smith in the lineup too. Going to be an exciting game for sure
