Powerforward tpyes usually take longr to develop their skills though. It seems they are finally starting to come together. Have you seen him play at all this year? Just curious
-
Would you mind giving a comparison as to what he plays like? How physical is he? ANd wat do you think he'll do in the NHL?
-
Yeah when I said 10 years I meant he would be a threat that long, not necessarily that the wings should lock him up that long. Even 7.5 and 6.5 to each of those guys might be a bit more than the wings would have to pay and that roster is still feasible under the cap, everyone who says its not possible needs to read Buppys post
-
Not everyone is going to take a discount to play in Detroit, and for around 7 million-7.5 million youre getting your moneys worth for a winger who is a threat to put up 40 goals and 90 points for the next 10 years. Especially since Detroit has the money to pay him fair market value and he would be the answer to setting up for another 10 straight playoff appearances. Suter at market value is probably 6 million or so. If it comes down to having to pay them each that muchthan the wings should do it. You dont have to expect a discount from everyone, especially when you have the cap space to pay them what theyll want
-
I think the wings might even break 20 fights this year lol With Commie and Smith probably getting some time, Abdelkader showing more willingness and Ericcson being encouraged by Babcock. Bert has also been told to play on the edge way more by Babcock.
-
So the guy comes in, has a solid preseason and gets hurt. Than he gets ina few games and hasnt looked terrible at all. He manhandled Langenbrunner behind the net which stick out in my mind tonight and hes only gotten spot duty all year because Kindl has played well. Give him 5 or 6 games to show what he can do at least, cant expect a guy to ride pine than come out and look like Lidstrom. If he was on the ice when Kronwall got hit by Stewart noone would be talking smack because he would've actually went and did something about it, Stewart would've been leaving with a misconduct and a few welts to remember what not to do aganst Detroit
-
Doan has 2 playoff series where he was an absolute force against the wings and some fans want to call him a cheapshotting scumbag...
-
Good young team in St Louis. Commie in and will have his spot for a few games to show what he can bring. I expect him to meet up with some players infront of the net big time tonight, this St Louis team has always been a chippy bunch. I remember David Backes slashing Howard hard in the glove while he was standing up at the end of a game last year, hopefully that s***s at a minimum with Commie out there
-
I dont get why people say this. The wings will have money to throw around, out of any contender type teams they will have by far the most and should be able to add 2 7 million dollar guys while still signing Lidstrom for 5. This offseason wont be like last where we were all like "Oh I wish we could get Richards maybe he'll tke 4 million to come here or something" It'll be like "Hey Kenny toss your money around use 7 and a half on him and 6 on this guy and we'll win the cup this year"
-
This is going to be the offseason that has the potential to make the wings contenders for the next 10 years again, if Holland can get it done. Holland has 24 million in cap space with 15 players already signed. Everyone with more cap space either have a few more players to sign, are internal cap teams or both. Holland has the most cap space to play around with out of all the teams who are legit free agent destinations. This imo will be the make or break offseason for Holland to make this team contenders again for many years. Parise is a 26 year old 40 goal scorer, possibly the best scoring winger in the game right now and does it with no help. Lets give him 7.5 as an overpayment just for the hell of it. Than Suter, probaly the best defensive defenseman in the game now right there with Lidstrom and Chara. Lets give him 7 for s***s and giggles which I doubt he actually gets. 14.5 to those guys leaves 9 million 5 to lidstrom leaves 4.5 Smith, Tatar, Nike = 2.5 left 1 millin for abdelkader 1.5 for helm Its definitely doable to have a line up with all those guys, and adding those 2 would make them instant cup favourites. If I'm Holland I make a trade for Parise at the deadline if possible, give up a 1st, Kindl, and Tatar or something for him. Than use Parise as leverage to lure Suter to the D. Its actually extremely possible for this to all happen and I would bet Hollands thinking about something like this. Our number 1 Dman and all star forward for the next 10 years would be locked up

Shanny gives Macarthur 3 games or whatever it was for his tiny little bump on Abdelkader but a guy running a goalie in the head (hands came up) doesnt even warrant a fine? Shanny did learn from Campbell I guess eh

I didnt realize Boychuk was a free agent either. While Gleason isnt a big upgrade I still think he is one. Hes meaner, more physical and better in his own zone a bit while being younger. Hes not a lot better but I think he is, coupled with his age thats an upgrade nonetheless. Boychuk would be a good second option and might even be a bit cheaper too. If Stuarts gone and the wings signa wideman type to replace him, he will be sorely missed. Hes the only bigger, tough dman on the team that can play mean hockey and regular minutes.
-
It didnt look like Kindl had the intention of dropping the gloves but he was skating over to give Benn a little shot for sure
-
Well by stay at home, tough defenseman standards he is one of the best. 5th in the league in hits last year, more blocked shots than any wing last season, logs 21 minutes a night 3 mins of which is short handed. Hes one of the most solid stay at home types in the league and was a good enough for the silver medal winning olympic hockey team. Hes a pretty big upgrade over Stuart, he does everything he does plus fights and is 4 years younger. As for the Michigan thing, we're talking about a guy who is leaving the most successful franchise of the last 20 years to be near his family most likely, and you dont think being from Michigan could have an effect? The face of American hockey who had played for one organization for his whole career signed a one year with Detroit because its where hes from and tarnished a great legacy in many people's eyes. Being from the area has a huge effect for a lot of players its pretty obvious, its obviously a big deal to be near their families and where they grew up
-
Gets jumped, and they go down pretty much immediately, I dont know how its fair to expect much out of him at all in that situation especially against a guy who is 6'4 If by regular scrapper you mean 10+ times a season than I agree but the fighting skill is definitely there to be a Dallas Drake type guy. 5 or 6 fights a year while being consistently physical and chipping in some offense is what he should be doing. He has clearly gotten a lot better at fighting the last couple years, he missed 4 years of fighting by going to the NCAA. Hes developing into a solid middle weight type EDIT: Forgot to add, while he had a terrible showing. I was pleasantly surprised to see Kindl fight a big guy like Benn who is known as a solid fighter when he fights. Hes been alot more physical this year to and had a few big hits
-
Well honestly I cat blame him for wanting to go back closer to his family, it must be tough. His play seems affected by it as well, he has seemed to be declining a bit in my eyes the last year or so. Hello Tim Gleason, pending UFA after thisoffseason. 4 years younger, FROM MICHIGAN which could figure to be huge, capable of the exact same offensive output, a tough fighter and a very rugged physical guy much like Stuart is and plays witha legit mean streak. Really if Stuart walks, I see Gleason as an upgrade by a decent margin and I think he is a more solid defensive defenseman. Stuart is a solid guy, and if he sticks around thats great but Gleason is basically a better version and that would be a great chance to improve the team
-
I'm the biggest supporter of physical, tough hockey, but how can anyone seriously defend that play? Regardless of what we all think should be in the rules, the bottom line is its against the rules to hit a goalie in hockey. The grow up getting hit with pucks, not learning how to take a hit and their equipment is not designed to take a hit at all. Their helmets fall off from shots, so god knows what a 230 lb physical freak of nature like Lucic could do. He blatantly hit him, threw his hands up and everything didnt even attempt to move. I would love Lucic on Detroit but he is a huge meathead and this is a clear example.

Funny thing is, back when I had season tickets, these guys were both teammates defending Stamkos together on the sting. Its weird to see them fighting eachother after it seems like yesterday they were both in a huge brawl with Oshawa after Stamme got speared. Callahan will get a shot. Holland has slowly been trying to toughen this team up a bit, you can see it in the way his drafting has changed the last few years, he just doesn't want a guy who can do nothing but fight, and if a player can fight and play they are hard to find. You basically have to develop them yourself. Callahan is a great fighter and will be one of, if not the toughest pound for pound guy after a few years in the league, but hes also a player. He gets in on the forecheck fast and is constantly a threat for a big hit, is always a willing fighter and is an amazing agitator. The physical side of the game he has down pat. His hands are solid and he can definitely give and receive a pass. He wouldnt have made the world junior team if he couldnt. He can also skate, if he was a bad skater he wouldnt be such a good forecheck, threat for the big hit, or played in an international tourney like that. All things considered, I've seen him play quite a bit and he'll be an NHL fourth liner for sure. He has the fighting ability to fight heavyweights while skating better than most of them. Hes probably going to be the wings Chris Neil or Mccarty. Hes also a pretty damn good PKer. Overall I wouldnt expect him to be a top liner or anything, but given the wings lack of grit and his combo of skill and tenacity you will see him in a wings sweater. He may evend evelop a bit of a scoring touch and become a member of Detroits next grindline Abdelkader - Helm - Callahan has got me drooling lol

The real question is how did you get stuck with class til 9 on a friday?! In my usual state at 9 on a friday I wouldn't even be able to read the slides and probably get thrown out for heckling the prof But anyways, good young team in the oil but hopefully theyre tired from last nights game vs the B's

Recent powerforwar draft pick Phillipe Hudon has taken a leave of absence from Cornell after having not played a game all season so far. Anyone know whats going on there? I think he'll be in the Q before long if I had to guess
-
Drapers prime had him making Olympic teams because of his PK ability. I dont think average is how I would describe him at all, he was always one of the best defensive forwards in the game, one of, and probably the best for a while at PKing and was the best year in and year out on faceoffs. Average offensively for a third liner maybe

When gauging this teams top 6 I look at it as Franzen, Z and Datsyuk are legit threats that teams need to game plan for on a given night. Other top teams in the west have way more fire power plain and simple imo. Sharks - Thornton, Marleau, Pavelski, Havlat and Clowe are all on that level of guys who can be game changers Vancouver - Sedins, Kesler probably have an edge because Kesler is quite a bit better than Franzen if you ask me Chicago - Kane, Toews, Sharp, Hossa LA - Richards, Kopitar, Brown, even Simon Gagne has found his stride again so you might be able to count him in there as well The wings top 6 just doesnt really have the firepower imo as most of these teams and something needs to be done about that. Once Cleary gets healthy that should help, but hes more of a complimentary guy. To really be a threat the wings really need to add a legit 25+ goal scorer. It doesnt have to be a Parise, but a Bourque type would work. Or maybe Umberger would be available, the jackets suck and I'm pretty sure his contract is up. He also brings his A game in the playoffs. It doesnt need to be some dynamic game breaker who will score 40, but I'm not confident in saying anyone outside of Franzen, Datsyuk, or Zetty (maybe Cleary) will be 20+ goal scorers this year.

The bus is the only way I go, get over there and dont have to worry about parking or paying 30 bucks for it. Theres a couple stops that you can hop on, its 4 bucks each way and drops yuo off on the other side of Cobo so you can just cut right through. Best way to get there by far in my opinion
-
Jackman isnt the best fighter but he is a fighter none the less, I like Commies chances with him though, Jackman is a punching bag at times but a good player for the fourth line. Its still nice to have a guy who can play a regular shift, AND pretty much fight anyone in the league on a given night except the super heavy weights like Mcintyre.
-
Maybe Babcock recognizes this and thats why hes going to let him have the opportunity to knock Kostopolous into next week. That should wake Stuart up. He did go for a huge hit against Minnesota though that barely missed, it was looking like his hit on Anisimov Tommy K is the NHLs punching bag, Stuart wouldnt get knocked onto the IR by him. Commodore would probably murder him, I think we're likely to see Jackman and Commie meet up at some point tonight. Commie will be out there to make a statement, noones going to be going near Jimmy tonight. Also isnt it weird that the wings for the first itme in a hwile have probably the otughest player out of both teams dressed on their side for once?
