9/22 Exhibition GDT: Red Wings 4 at Flyers 3 (SO)

After all the praise he has recieved im pretty excited to watch goose. Wouldnt surprise me if he takes over Tatar as top forward prospect after a season of pro hockey.

9/21 Exhibition GDT: Red Wings 2 at Penguins 3

Yeah Commie looked exactly like he should out there tonight. A solid physical presence but man does he ever look huge out there, its gonna be nice having that to patrol the blue line all season long and clear the crease. Brunnstrom showed flashes of skill but he seems like one of those no toolbox kind of guys, youre almost out of the league in a preseason game and you pull that one handed s*** with a guy right on your back? come on now Exxelby looks like he could be a good second call up after Smitty for sure, Janik probably has the edge right now but who knows. Exelby is probably better than Janik. I dont totally agree with your assessment of Pyett. He looks like he could be a better version of Meech, which is a decent utility guy to have, didnt look great didnt look terrible. Also thought Tatar looked great and was really fast and shifty. Mursak is going to be a player as well. Johnson looks to have the edge so far in the 4th line center race, cant wait to see what unfolds. Thats all the player assessments ill be diong for now, see you folks in the GDT tomorrow

Commdore has looked pretty good so far, definitely looks suitable to be a 6th dman.

    Lineups vc. PIT, PHI

Yeah first game last year Bertuzzi had to pound that idiots head in. Anyways I'm sure with that defense we'll see a scrap or two tonight, especially with a Pitty goon squad

    Riley Shean is built

Well needless to say, the wings prospect I'm hoping hits his potential the most is Riley Sheahan. After his secon dhalf last season I'm very excited to see what he does this year, with his potential selke like defense and his second half offensive production, over the course of a full season I could see him becoming our second or third best prospect. On top of all that he is a big hitter and has said he is willing to fight with a 6'2 200+ pound frame. I cant wait to see a guy like that in the wings top 6 again (sheahan sounds pretty similar to shanahan ) So anyways I was looking around online and I never realized this but Sheahan is pretty damn built. http://oilers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=530486 He finishes in the top 10 against other his age in quite a few different categories like 4th in bench press and standing long jump. The NCAA emphasizes hitting the weights more so than the OHL and by the time this kid hits pro hockey he could be built like a brock s*** house and really physically dominating player Mod feel free to edit his last name in the title, even though the winning puns wont get old

    Lineups vc. PIT, PHI

I'm guessing because of that hip injury, they wanna keep him up and see him in some game action since he was hurt fairly early in the prospects tourney. They may also want to show off some of his disgusting hands as well. Seems odd that Callahan isnt in the lineup for either of these games, they must plan on keeping him up longer into the preseason to see what he can do against more NHL type lineups?

Red Wings Pre-season opener against Pitt

Yep but the wings play tomorrow so no worries. As for the thursday game against Philly, it may not be shown because it is being played in London at the JLC

    Riley Shean is built

Haha yeah post came across a littl emore fanboyish than I thought, once he makes it maybe ill become Eva like who knows? But yeah I agree, if he scores at the pace he did second half of last season tha he cements himself as a top prospect. If he doesnt step up, we're looking at a future strong defensively fourth liner who will probably have to start playing tougher to stay in the lineup. Hopefully that team canada cut woke him up on the goal scoring front, Notre Dame is a favourite to win it all this year so he has a chance for a big year
  11. I think it was that Olimb kid fighting |Kyle Beach
  12. This is nothing new, even the Flyers have used this rule already. Does seem dumb to fight your teammates in training camp though, save it for the preseason games boys

Babs sets defense pairings for camp

I dont think its hate but it is somehwat disappointing out highest draft pick in a decade hasnt turned out like we all expected. Yeah he looks like he m ay be a solid top 4 MAYBE, but there are guys like Smith and now with White who are young still and much better. I thinnk alot of people see Kindl as e xpendable in a trade to bring something else they dont have (another scorer, bruiser etc). I think hes a decent player but what does he provide that the wings need is the way I look at it, and quite frankly I cant think of an answer to support him

No Ken Holland doesnt ignore the nature of hockey. He thought a power play could be his enforcer in the new NHL, realized he was wrong and has only been able to find stop gap solutions for the problem. Signed Downey and Drake one year, Brad May another becausze these guys come cheap. Theyre obviously waiting for Callahan to develop as well as Smith. They've also just added Commodore. If anything Holland is trending in the right direction he just isnt quite there yet to have a good grit and skill balance. Even taking a potential powerforward like Sheahan over guys like Kuznetzov shows it, as well as wanted to draft Tyler Biggs last year Get ready to jump on another band wagon though when Smith, Callahan, Sheahan, Commodore (maybe), Abby, Ericcson, and maybe even Ferraro are all in the lineup because I have a feeling it will be too rough of hockey for you. Hes changed his draft strategy as well. Every year they've been picking up some bigger grittier guys than they used too. Yeah he did. Didnt hear much about himthough. He got in a fight in the first game but thats all. For a defenseman not hearing about him can be a good thing though

I read praise about Nyquist, didnt see anyone else? Callahan was 3rd in scoring while playing a game less than the 2 ahead of him, and he can hit, and fight and kill penalties. He's recieved praise from the brass as how far hes come and said he'll likely be an NHLer. So where is your insight coming from otherwise? You probably havent even seen the kid play, but you probably saw some fight video on youtube and started crying that the wings drafted a guy like that instead of another Ryno softie who will never come over from Europe

    Traverse City Tournament

Yeah they know what Callahan can do and have even said he very likely an NHLer, they have to see all the guys they can in this Prospects tourny so they drafted what is probably their second or third most well known commodity in the tournament in favour of some others. This healthy scratch also managed to be third on the team in scoring while playing one less game than the guys ahead of him. And the game he didnt play in was their highest scoring affair. Callahan is almost as close as it gets to an NHLer, just because of the plain old fact he can fight. If Pulkkinens skating doesnt improve or he cant adjust to NA, he will bust.

    Traverse City Tournament

Yeah Brendan Smith may never play and NHL game either. Fact of the matter is the wings brass has stated they think Callahan is likely an NHL player and has at least a good skillset to make it on the 4th line someday. Callahan is much more likely to make the NHL than Pulkkinen but I bet you wouldnt agree And just curious, if the wings dont think they need to toughen up a bit, why would they take the player (Callahan) who was one fight away from setting the WHL record for most fights by a rookie instead of going for some homerun late round skilled pick?

Babs sets defense pairings for camp

Wow the wings D is tough actually If Commodore can really find his game again and become a solid number 6 with a regular shift they will be a physical force. Lidstrom - Yeah hes soft but hes also the reigning Norris champ so chirp him I dare ya White - Feisty little guy who can throw a nice hipcheck and handle himself in a scrap. Clears the crease Stuart and Kronawll - Probably the hardest hittting pairing in the league when together arguably Commodore, Smith, Ericcson - All guys who can fight and have an edge to their game (Even Ericcson every now and than) Kindl - Soft but I feel like he wont play a whole lot again and could be traded. Im hoping Commie shows Ericcson what to do with his 6'5 frame and they become a damn nasty pairing. If Smith is in the lineup he could actually be their nastiest defender, kid is dirty with his stick, looks for big hits and will fight too. I just really hope Commie gets it together and can turn into a pre concussion Lilja

    Traverse City Tournament

Exactly. We've got a couple guyys like Smith and Callahan coming up who can provide that snarl and play regular minutes hopefully but Heaten thinks they should soften up and not ever fight or play like they always have just in case they might get hurt. Thats just stupid. These are the guys you win cups with. And Heaten noone said mindless goons carried Detroit in 08, but if you dont think that team was by far the toughest in the playoffs Detroit has iced post lockout, you are a moron
  20. It does seema little odd to me that a guy who is well knwon to be in the doghouse and trade block and is expected to have a great year this season is the last one to join the skates. I mean the guys have been together for lik 2 weeks now some of them and its not like he was back home in the czech republic, he was in Montreal the biggest party town in Canada (arguably with St Johns NFLD)

Well the last time a wing had 2 fights in one game was Downey against CBJ, we know what happened that season. I mean BOO fighting, it stinks lets let guys run our players in a prospect tourney where half the people wont ever make it !!!

Andderson just went up in my books. Knowing that Smith is the top dog and captain of that team and he went out there and did something about it instead of getting pushed around. This young group of prospects has a little more grit than they have in past years for sure
