    Draft Talk

If the wings go with a forward I want them to try for Mcneil, if not Biggs is the guy I want for sure. He is the meanest forward rated in the first round this year. Yeah Biggs has his scoring potential questioned, thats why he isnt ranked as a number 8 or 9 pick anymore but he is still highly regarded. Even if he turns into a guy who just throws huge hits, can PK, fight and chip in a bit of offense from the third line, that is niot a wasted 24th pick. At 24th overall, if we get the next david clarkson would anyone be unhappy?

Zetterberg and Filppula are both listed at 6 feet, not undersized. Datsyuk is the most skilled player in the league and Crosby has generational talent. You can name a couple small players who are a few of the best in the league, but for everyone of those small ones there is 5 who aren't small. So now that youve listed Datsyuk and Crosby as proof that drafting smaller forwards are great.. tell me about how great Hudler and Jason Williams are? You know, the 2 most worthless Red Wings the last few years who have done nothing for the team

gritty players I would like the wings to sign

Plenty of intangibles,he PKs, can replace exactly what Draper did. Specialize in faceoffs, bring leadership and PK while being a very physical player. I would take out Miller who provides nothing really for a guy who will run other teams defenseman, beat their team up while PKing and winning most of his faceoffs Well obviously the fact that he fights is why people want him. He is a physical guy who will fight as well and isnt a complete plug out there. You could say that about anyone, if Homer didnt screen goalies all those years would you want him on the team? No, buty since he does he was a nice fit here. He would be just as good as Miller defensively. Better than Bert, Homer, Hudler. He brings a skill set that includes fighting and does everything that Drew Miller does on top of that. He has pretty much Drapers skill set now and he wasnt out of place. He was a faceoff specialist who can take a PK shift and give you 10 minutes a game of decent hockey while being one of the better enforcers out there. You really have Detroits bottom players on some kind of pedestal, they arent nothing as special as youre making them out to be if you think Konopka is a complete non fit with the team. How come Downey could play 60 something games in 08 and Mac could play as many as he did?

A defenseman to look for in later rounds is Jesse Forsberg. I'm hoping the wings use their third on him, hes the type of defenseman Detroit needs badly. I've seen him play a couple times, he could be our next Stuart except hes a very good figher as well

gritty players I would like the wings to sign

Oh so you mean a guy with good leadership, the ability to fight, PK a bit and is the best faceoff man in the league would be a good option as a cheap 13th forward since he is multi faceted? How is Miller exactly multi faceted? He can PK, what else can he do? He cant hit hard, he doesnt put up a tonne of points, he doesnt fight etc

gritty players I would like the wings to sign

Ive wanted Thompson on the wings for a while now. He is exactly what the wings need to find instead of Drew Millers who provide nothing and skilled guys like Hudler who dont produce. When I say I want a tough guy hes the type of player I want, not the big useless guys. Hes also young and can be around for a while instead of signing an old washed up guy who sucks at the end of his career.

gritty players I would like the wings to sign

Signing Konopka seems like it would make a tonne of sense now when Im thinking about it. Faceoff specialist like draper who plays around the same minutes and same PK time, just is a great fighter while he does it.

    Holland or Yzerman?

I would rather have Yzerman with Holland steppinng up to VP or something and helping him along the way. Holland is a very good GM but not as good as most people on here make him out to be. Yzerman could have learned from him and brought some new cunning to the GM office the wings dont have right now because Yzerman was in the trenches come playoff tiem slugging it out and knows what it takes to win.

I dunno, last year with the first pick he took a big, tough canadian power forward. Hopefully he'll do it again with one of Mcneil or Biggs if he takes a forward

    Draft Talk

I just checked out the may ISS ranking and saw Mark Mcneil at 20! This is my dream guy for the wings to draft, they should trade up for him if they need to but they need to get him. 81 points this year, a big hitter, good size at 6'2 and a good fighter although he doesnt fight a whole lot. A big right handed shooting centerman from western Canada is something I would love on the wings If he is still around at 20 the wings need to get this guy, he is everything they need

    Draft Talk

Biggs is a safe pick much like Sheahan was last year, thats why I could see it happening. If you get a third liner who can put up 30 points, fight and hit like a truck that is worth the 24th overall pick, especially with such a lack of size for Detroit. By that point in the draft there are questions around every single player. And for the record, Namestnikov is a floater, do not want

    Theo Peckham

Because when youre in a blow out game and some idiot decides to run your goalie someone stepping up is a good thing. Its not like going off for 5 minutes is that big of a deal. Everyone plays an extra minute than gets some extra rest when the other guy comes out.

    Changes in the offseason

This article says what most people on here have been saying. The nucleus is solid but the mid core (I guess you cal it that) needs some refreshing. Guys like Hudler, Filppula and the defense need to get a shake up. This article sounds to me like he plans on making a few changes but nothing too major which is exactly what the wings need. They need a scoring winger and a revamp on defense. Adding one of SOB, Erskine or Montador as our Salei replacement is a start

    Theo Peckham

Theo Peckham is one of the harrdest hitting defenseman in the league and a solid but not great fighter. He is looking to pan out to be a number four or five defenseman. I would love him on the wings, I dount Edmonton would give him up but maybe Hudler for Peckham would be something to look at. Detroit would have a young, tough guy who can play locked up for the future and get that mean dman they havent had since Hatcher.

    Changes in the offseason

This is starting to look more and more like the case. Honestly, people will follow like sheep but what has Holland really done to show he is that special and infallible? He started with an already built team that was winning cups and had Datsyuk and Zetterberg picked by his scouts. He traded for Brad Stuart in 08, what has he really done that this guys post deserves a negative 15? Ill point out some things Holland has done. He has signed guys like franzen who is now constantly hurt and become complacent to a very long deal, locked up guys like Bertuzzi, Homer etc for an extra year that they didnt really deserve. He has signed guys like Jason Williams as well. This offseason will be a real test. This team needs a change, even if he is handcuffed a bit, a GM who is as good as a lot of Detroit fans make Holland out to be will find some moves to make.If Lidstrom retires than we'll really see how good he is. I just dont think he has eanred this god like title some give him really. Ryane Clowe on the wings would be unreal. Detroit needs a player like that. When youre biggest guys like Franzen are your softest it must really take some wind out of the other players sails. Hopefully Sheahan can turn into a top 2 line guy somewhat like this. As for this offseason, assuming Lidstrom is back, I would sign Shane O'Brien to take Salei or Ericcsons spot. The wings defense needs to become harder to play against. The order of cheaper defenseman I would sign are SOB, Erskine, and than Montador. All are fairly young, play mean and just as capable defensively as Salei.

    Hudler's Future

We got the minus button back just in time for Evas posts in a Hudler thread, awesome ! Seriously, we have people defending a soft, prima donna who averaged about 8 mins a game against San Jose. I would much rather have a Dallas Drake type out there playing thoise minutes come playoff time than this slug. Even if Hudler has a pretty assist every now and than on the PP, he is USELESS

Wow... Ryan Clowe will not play in Game 6

Haha yeah besides being tied for the lead in points for the playoffs and being a physical force. Im hoping what you said was sarcasm but its hard to tell on a computer

Wow... Ryan Clowe will not play in Game 6

Still would trade a lot to get Clowe on this team. Franzen and a first plus a prospect even if I had to depending on which prospect it is. Even though he got laid out by Kronwall he is still tougher than any red wing (and a lot of fighters in the league), tied for the playoff lead in scoring and will stand up for his teammates. Hes everything I wish Franzen was

    Clowe Gets Kronwalled

A couple of beauties from Kronwall this series. He has been playing great hockey lately. That being said, Clowe is still one of, if not my favourite non red wing and I would trade a lot to get him on the wings. One of the few true powerforwards left in the game. Franzen plus a first round pick for Clowe make it happen Kenny

Some possible NEEDED changes in the Offseason

He isnt the god everyone thinks he is, he is a very good gm but has his flaws just like everyone. What has he really done that makes him god like like a lot of people on here think? Before the cap he had an unlimited chequebook and since the cap he has looked like nothing special. Sorry im not a complete homer like a lot of people on here are
  23. I would like to see them replace Ericcson or Salei with a guy who does what we all thought Ericcson would do. Shane O'Brien is a guy I would like. He can take on those big power forwards like Clowe and Thornton and win the physical battles that Ericcson hasnt really been able to do. With him and Stuart we will have 2 big, tough stay at home types. He provides something the team doesnt have and he can do everything that Salei can while being younger and tougher. He can PK, throw a hit, defend his teammates or the goalie and has a mean streak in him for sure. Salei just doesnt have it anymore and getting a younger, tougher version of himself would be perfect with SOB.

Some possible NEEDED changes in the Offseason

Hudler and Flip for a guy who has number 1 defenseman potential isnt that far off, probably ATL would throw in a mediocre prospect or pick. Flip is closing in on 30 and hasnt done anything offensively and Hudler is just plain awful. I dont know why you are so certain the wings wont trade or offer any RFAs. This team has been good ever since Holland took over the team, yeah hes a solid GM, but also very overrated.. This offseason will really show Hollands true colours, if he does nothing than we'll all be wishing Yzerman was here

Some possible NEEDED changes in the Offseason

Well first of all, it didnt work in 2009... or is that 2009 cup banner for the wings sitting in the janitors closet at the joe waiting to be hung? Second of all, that 2008 team was the only somewhat tough team the wings have had post lockout, also the only one to win a cup. Holland needs to go back to building a big, tough, physical shut down line on the third line instead of this 3 scoring line crap with guys like Hudler floating around out there. Drake, Cleary, Draper was our third line when we last won the cup and the 3 before that still had the grind line intact. Add Matt Bradley, Washington will probably be making changes and Bradley is a very similar player to Mac in his prime, play him with Helm at center and Abdelkader on wing and we have the grind line pretty much re constructed. Maybe try to flip a scoring forward like Hudler or Flip and replace him with Scottie Upshall. He provides some grit and can play in the top 6 if needed. add a real bruiser on defense to handle bigger forwards and this team will be better off I dont know how much longer people will continue with excuses but this team is just too soft and doesnt have the heart and soul players to go far.
