Yeah it sucks, he lost out on 4 years of fighting and rough stuff experience playing in the NCAA, thats why its rare to see good fighters come straight out of the college route but some usually end up scrapping a bit a few years in. When you have a guy like Boyce who was fighting for 4 years consistently in the OHL and a few years in the AHL and Abby who has fought for a season and a half really its hard not to say he has improved a lot when he hung in there really well and also got a win against Ott who is very experienced. 2 or 3 years and hes a pretty good middleweight, I'm willing to bet on it !

my buddy was at the game and said he saw a few as well haha southern ontario is completely torn with wings and leafs fans who all hate eachothers teams so this does not surprise me whatsoever. Especially cause leafs fans can be very arrogant and stupid
-
Yeah he looks smaller to me as well but hes listed a 6 feet so thats pretty close, and yeah I watch the leafs a tonne, I go to uni in leafs nation but that was Boyce's first pro fight just in the minors and juniors he is easily considered a scrapper and I would say Abby more then held his own once again. His fighting skills are coming around
-
Boyce is far froma lightweight, hes actually a really experienced fighter. I'm not sure if youre just making something up to try to prove a point or youre just not actually aware of what kind of player Boyce is? Has a 10 fight season in the OHL and several other seasons right around that mark. Abdelkader fought him to a draw and he is continually showing improvement in his style. Give him a year or 2 and he'll be a respectable middleweight EDIT Boyce has fights with guys like Hendricks, Tardif and Dowell all who are at teh very least good middleweights, hendricks is a smaller heavyweight though. He is FAR from alightweight

Hes been noticeably better since being put back on the wing. Decent scrap with a guy with some experience and did it at the right time not getting the extra 2. Played physical all game too

and nyquist scores his first pro goal against texas

Detroit has no guys who consistently drop the gloves to be considered a tough guy. Vancouver has Glass, Torres will go, Bolduc plays some games, Bieksa etc. Montreal has Moen and Wiz. Detroits problem would be solved if E would show up for his teammates more consistently but he wont unfortuantely. If the instigator were removed I wouldn't expect the wings to grab a Boogaard but they would definitely get someone like a Tanner Glass, Laperriere in his day etc at the very least I think on plays where a penalty is called for a hit then the instigator being removed could possibly work, the people who say goons would just start grabbing stars and pummeling them are wrong, didnt happen back in the day, why would it now?
-
Yeah those guys had the choice to wear it or not and they exercised their right to put one on. Why should someone like Bertuzzi who has never wore a visor and has tried it and says he cant stand the way it affects his vision be forced to wear a visor?

2 goals in the first game of the playoffs for Callahan in a 4-1 Kelowna win
-
This is the one game a year the wings must win for me. I live near Windsor but go to University right in the heart of leafs nation, if the wings lose this one there is a good chance my computer explodes at all the idiotic leafs fans writing on my wall...
-
No idea, Im semi retarded when it comes to computers, UK might be able to help you out. The griffs had a 3-0 lead but really got jobbed by the refs and ended up losing 5-3. Nyquist looked really slick and shifty out there though I must say.
-
With 3 heavyweights and a plethora of solid middleweights yeah they could be considered the toughest, its not a stretch by any means. Nyquist looked good through one period of play so far tonight
-
And some very solid middleweights with Owens, Tardif, Smith and possibly even Kolosov who can handle himself. Then on top of that you have some skilled guys like Mursak and Pare who will throw down and do alright on occasion. Lashoff could be a very solid scrapper as well, he just hasn't done it in Grand Rapids really unfortunately. Yeah I think its safe to say Nyquist will be well taken care, but even Tatar has a fight this year so never say never. ps UK I'm caught up on work now so I should be able to start catching the griffs again, must be getting lonely with hardly anyone to watch with lol

I was wondering when this was gonna happen, staying in college would have been a year of development wasted if you ask me. Hopefully this guy lights it up in the A and we see him in Detroit sooner then later
-
For everyone who is down on Sheahans production this year I found this little bit of info helpful. He is producing at pretty much the same rate as Nelson, Coyle, Kevin Hayes, etc. All the powerforward types who were drafted around the same time in the NCAA are puttingup similar numbers while being behind Sheahan defensively. Howden is putting up sick numbers against guys his age and younger so its hard to compare for a few years. Until then though Sheahan is looking like apick then all the other NCAA powerforwards taken
-
Yes please to all of those guys. Seriously, what does Holland want with a 40 year old floater, who has always played soft and has already won cups so isn't hungry? If we're signing and old guy it should be another Dallas Drake. Hasn't won a cup, will do anything to help the team win and can smash some bodies out there. Old, washed up skill on the bottom lines is not how Detroit has ever built a championship team.

Just checking out the standings and I saw that if the playoffs started today that is who the wings would play. How sweet would it be after last season to beat the crap outta the Hawks in the first round? Looking at a lot of the matchups I think these guys might be who I want to play the most. They are not very physical, the wings know them well and they do not have much for goaltending which always seems to kill the wings in the first round. Showing who daddy is in the central division would also be nice. Heres hopings for wings vs Hawks first round

I dont expect Abby to fight until someone on the team has his back. Last year he raised quite a bit of hell learning from Brad May who always had the teams back. If Abby gets someone on his line who can actually fight 10 times a season, youll see Abby playing way more physical and mixing it up which is when he is at his best. Kinda like Maltby when he had Mac or Kocur on his line. He will be like a Dallas Drake, hits hard and will fight a bit but should not be the most willing fighter on the team and should have someone capable of having his back. Its hard to be tough against guys like Shea Weber when even softies like Erat and Legwand are willing to try and take your head off.
-
Yeah but our pp will handle things like that and really deters teams from pulling that s*** on us Abdelkader shouldnt be counted on to do a bunch of fighting but he is a good guy to have someone who is really tough's back. Callahan, Smith and hopefully Sheahan need to get up to this wings lineup and show these guys how to get their balls out of their purse and that sometimes fighting back can help. Tonight one fight near the start of the game would have probably settled both teams down, but no the wings just bent over, got beat up and got beat on the scoreboard

Since its Saint Pattys day and I'm at University, I'll be watching the red wings game twice tonight... Unfortunately for my liver it will be because I am seeing double :beerbuddy: Happy St Pattys day my fellow LGWers !

An education is important but making the jump to pro now is in his best interests. He has already proven he can tear up against NCAA players, now he needs to get used to the long schedule etc of pro hockey. Hopefully his offense translates
-
Yeah his play in the sm ligga is much more relevant then his play in the NHL that took place more recently when we are talking about his NHL play Your attempt at saying the reason you like him isn't because he is Finnish is a pretty weak attempt.
-
Scored a goal in their series clinching game the other night, came down the wing and sniped one short side. Hes playing at the Joe Friday night vs Miami
-
I just thought I would bump this so everyone can see how wise I really am

USA has a fairly deep team this year at forward, but if Callahan continues to progress the way he has does anyone think he has a shot at making the USA in a 4th line grinding role?
