Rypien and Cam Jansen both take on all the biggest tough guys in the league excluding guys like Boogard and both of them are around Callahans size, Domi as well. He is such a dominant fighter for his size its ridiculous, he will be a fan favourite for sure. His size isnt a concern because hes a stalky little bastard already closing in on 200 pounds. With the way he has been developing a scoring touch its really hard to say. If the wings think he is never gonna be more then a 3rd or 4th liner and he shows he can still play physical in the AHL then he might be on the fast track. If the wings think he could potentially become a decent scorer maybe they leave him down for the three. Usually fighters can break in quicker because their role isn't something you need to develop a whole lot for.

Janik sent back down, Stuart is in http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2011/03/red_wings_brad_stuart_will_pla.html

Downie is a decent comparison I guess but Callahan is a better fighter while Downie is the better player overall. Both have offense to their game and will probably be getting 150-200 pims a year for a while. He does really compare to Matt Cooke quite a bit too. Agitators that will score 10-15 a year. Callahan isnt as big of a ******, and is definitely the tougher of the 2 but in time we'll see who the better player is

Somewhere in his little cave Gary is currently happy because the game of hockey is getting closer and closer to soccer on ice. Well the sweet love he is making to Crosby also helps I'm sure, but this still makes Gary happy
-
Yeah no kidding eh whats that guys deal lol?
-
Cool video! Lots of praise about how physical Oslund is and you get to see him throw quite a few. He is number 16
-
Yeah no apologies needed haha I couldn't care less realy I was just sayin' Seriously though the thing that makes Callahan so awesome is that he isn't some 5'11 guy taking on middleweights and other guys his size in fights. He fights all of the legit heavyweights in the dub and has lost about 4 fights out of 50 in his career. He is gonna be the wings version of Rypien except maybe even tougher but also possibly play on the 3rd line chipping in offensively. Maybe even take a net front role and play up on a line to protect some of the stars by playing on their wing. I can't wait for this kid to be up full time

I posted this in the prospects section earlier today. Seems like they have nothign but great things to say about him. Possible third/fourth line enforcer who can score double digit goals in the future. I'm drooling right now haha
-
Looked shoulder to shoulder to me Something even cooler happened in the dub last night though. Callahan got in a fight in the first period, needed 7 stitches inn his hand but still returned to the game got a gordie howe hatrick with the goal being the game winner
-
Any of these options or possible or this could also be Kenny sending a message saying you defenceman pull up your trousers and start playing or we'll put Janik in the lineup. Oh well, maybe we'll get to see a fight or 2 while hes up. Hopefully he is playing his solid stay at home style and not messing up too much
-
Yeah and he also looked to hurt his hand pretty bad in the fight, hopefully its nothing too serious. Turns out he got 7 stitches in his hand and returned to score the game winner Callahan is the man, hes had a few gordies this year. I wonder the last time the wings had a guy in the prospect pool that was as tough as Callahan but produced almost a ppg? EDIT: Went to check the Kelowna website and found this awesome article The Callahan Legend Grows It‘s hard to keep a tough guy down. In Mitchell Callahan‘s case, it‘s nearly impossible. At Prospera Place on Wednesday night, Callahan came back from taking seven stitches in his hand to score the winning goal as the Kelowna Rockets defeated the Tri-City Americans 3-1, moving eight points ahead of Vancouver in the race for first place in the WHL‘s B.C. division in the process. Callahan suffered multiple cuts to his hand in a first-period fight, got stitched up in the dressing room and returned to the ice in time to snap a 1-1 tie in the third period. "It was sore and stiff, but they did a good job of stitching it up and taping it up," said Callahan. "At the start of the third period it started to cramp up, but I don‘t like to miss any games so it was something I battled through." Callahan‘s goal came as the pace of play picked up with both teams creating chances with the game knotted at 1-1. Shane McColgan jumped on a loose puck at the Rockets‘ blue-line, sped through neutral ice and into Ams territory, then fired a quick pass to Callahan who one-timed the shot past Tri-City goalie Drew Owsley. It was just his third goal in the past 11 games. "It was kind of frustrating, but at the same time the team is winning so I didn‘t want to change up anything," he said. "It was nice to get this and hopefully more will come. It was a relief to get the monkey off my back." That first-period fight, although it resulted in stitches when the linesman stepped on his hand, had Callahan involved physically in the game - something his coach thought was key. "I thought Mitchell was great tonight," said Rockets head coach Ryan Huska. "I think he finished with the Gordie Howe hat trick. I think when he gets involved physically, he usually plays a good game and he scored a key goal for us." Geordie Wudrick also scored for the Rockets - his team-leading 39th of the season - while Evan Bloodoff added an empty-netter to seal the victory. Carter Ashton was the only Americans shooter to beat Kelowna goalie Adam Brown, who won his 33rd game of the season and was named the contest‘s first star. Brown was especially good in the third when he made back-to-back stops on two Tri-City chances midway through the final frame. The Yorba Linda, Calif., native flashed out his glove to get a piece of an in-close wrister from Matt MacKenzie. Seconds later, he fired out the left pad to kick a Justin Feser shot to the corner, keeping the score 1-1 and setting the stage for Callahan‘s winner. The Rockets improved to 39-26-0-1 with the win, and thanks to Chilliwack‘s 2-0 win in Vancouver, moved eight points ahead of the Giants in the B.C. Division pennant race. It also brought the Rockets within five points of Tri-City in Western Conference standings. "You always want to finish as high as you can, but we have to keep ourselves focused on winning our games," said Huska. "You can‘t control what other teams are going to do." ICE CHIPS: Scratches for Kelowna were Mitchell Chapman, Jason Siebert, Brett Bulmer and Max Adolph. Scratches for Tri-City were Dylan Fluter, Adam Hughesman, Mason Wilgosh and Neal Prokop. . . . The Rockets are back in action this weekend playing a home-and-home series with the Kamloops Blazers. The two teams meet Friday in Kamloops and Saturday back in Kelowna, 7 p.m. at Prospera Place. . . . At Vancouver on Wednesday, Lucas Gore stopped 36 shots as the Bruins blanked the injury-riddled Giants 2-0 in a contest that featured more fighting than scoring with a combined 132 penalty minutes

You can say that about a lot of players actually. But what bad does he really do? He isnt costing his team money cause hes suspended and he has all those s*** head pengus keepin their heads up from now on. Personally I think what he did was deserved to the pens, I think it deserved a suspension but im glad a guy like Gillies who is s*** at hockey anyways was the one that did it. Maybe finally with one of their guys on the shelf for a month some of them (Cooke especially) will learn
-
Or maybe Gillies was making this a case of "Im tired of all you pens and your bulls*** the league has to put up with, you wanna have your guys like Cooke or Talbot out there running guys then we'll try to get your young guys right back." Noone really knows what Gillies was saying but he might've been saying go thank your buddies Cooke and Maxime for that after he hit him. Was it dirty and definitely suspension worthy? Oh hell yeah, but I bet those pens wont pull ANY s*** against the Isles again.
-
It was a little late but not really that late and I have for sure seen guys get rubbed out after plays like that without penalties in games before, Pac just got unlucky that the rinks are designed like that. Jack Johnson had a similar hit on Ryan Smith a while back and I dont think there was a suspension? I would give him a game or 2 just because of the result and to say that you shouldn't be trying to put guys in like that, however people calling for a lifetime ban are ridiculous
-
Yeah coulda had more points too if they didnt blow a 3 goal lead in the third period. Having a 3 goal lead like that and blowing it shows this teams character a lot more in my eyes then getting 60% of the points on a roady
-
Exactly. The wings blow a 3 goal third period lead, and he is making up excuses like that? And this is the heir to the captaincy? Doesn't sound good at all, oh well I guess those big contracts will do that too you
-
I think sitting him would be a great idea as well to try and get back that hunger he seemed to have at the start of the season when he had like 7 points in 9 games and was laying guys out (cough luke schenn cough) a lot. When Abdelkader is on his game he is much more effective then Miller, Draper, and Eaves
-
Heres hoping that the wings have a big win tonight, Kronwall lights up Nichol and then Ericcson/Abdelkader beat Nichol up after. If all this happens I will be very happy because I am going to be Charlie Sheen mangled tonight watching this before I go to the bar
-
I dunno, this year I'm not super confident but I do think they have enoughw eapons to win it all if they peak at the right time. When you look at it, Vancouver and the Sharks are the 2 teams in the west that are the other best. Both teams have playoff demons, Luongo is not much of a playoff goalie and I think the Sedin sisters can be shut down with some physical play. I still think this team needs some fresh blood somewhere in the line up
-
With the way the wings have been playing lately and with how many scrappy guys are on the ducks I expect Ericcson or Abdelkader may have to step up tonight. Just one of those games
-
When I really think about it, with our surplus of forwards, I will be kind of mad if Holland doesn't make a move. Even just moving a guy like Miller for a late pick or something, there isnt a point in hanging onto all these forwards when we have so many and could still use a depth pick up on defence maybe. I have no doubt in my mind that Mursak could step in for the playoffs and fill the role that Miller plays right now. Yeah I know depth is important but Miller was awful in the playoffs last year and is being outplayed by Draper who is playing well this year, the wings have tonnes of depth already. A move really should be made instead of just letting someone like Miller walk at the end of the year, even if its for a 6th rounder
-
A much more realistic option might be that after the season the wings trade for Bogosians rights since he does not want to play in Atlanta. Either way we know that the wings are looking into him and that maybe this offseason Bogosian could become a wing. Maybe it only takes Hudler and a pick at that point since it is only for his rights. I hope somehow this happens but I do doubt that it will happen this deadline
-
Doc I seriously question whether or not you have been involved in a game of hockey in your life. Yes the hit was bad and he got what he deserved for it but Green is a complete retard for leaving his head exposed after what he just did going into a corner. If you have actually played a game of hockey in your life you would know to keep your head on a swivel in that situation like kook was saying. Stepan had a dirty hit but if Green wasn't being a complete dumb ass he could've easily avoided the hit
-
The blackhawks had just got beaten out of the western conference finals and added Hossa at the start of the season. They were a young and hungry team. The wings are full of guys with big contracts that have all pretty much won a cup, adding some fresh blood wouldn't be awful, espcially when the wings have been getting exposed on the defensive side of the game

http://theproductionline.us/2011/02/the-pipeline-riley-sheahan/ Says that his play resembles Franzen, we all knew that. But the REAL important part is when he says he is willing to fight if he must to stick up for teammates and has some experience in it
