Exactly, people sometimes seem to forget that you have to give up something in order to get something back. Hudler with his salary and for what he provides is our most realistic player to move. In order to seal up our defence maybe our offence needs to take a little bit of a hit, but if thats what is necessary to stop this team from giving up so many goals then that is what must be done. We are simply not going to win much in the playoffs if this team doesnt seriously crack down on the back end. Chris Phillips and a 4th for Hudler will do the trick I think. We need to get a legit stay at home type defenceman that can play like pre concussion Lilja did. Right now the wings have a bunch of guys who ALL try to play offensively. Salei even jumps up in the play quite a bit and plays a little bit risky. A shut down stay at home, shot blocking, PKer is what the wings need to get. Phillips is a good person to look at

How do you know that though? Other teams might look at him and be like OK he got 60 points, came back readjusted to the NHL and is lighting it up again. He might actually have more trade value then we think. And this team is built to win now with the window closing, if it means maybe not getting quite enough value as we should but ultimately helps this team win a cup then a cup is worth getting a little less then what you should for a guy like Hudler.

See heres the thing about Hudler. Its not even hate for me, its just the salary. For what he makes and what he does to help this team he is the best trade option, there are some people on this board who love Hudler way too much. If Holland can realistically trade for a good defenceman I think that will help us WAY more come playoff time then having Hudler put up a few points. Defence wins championships and Detroits probably needs an upgrade, Hudler is the best person to move for the wings really. He is one dimensional and now that he is putting up some points probably has some good trade value

Those guys aren't really fair comparisons at all. Bertuzzi used to be a 90 point guy so I guess you could actually say he has peaked, Cleary was a guy who was playing through innjuries but in the past has shown he can score 20 goals a season and so has Eaves (who is younger then Iflip). Iflip will not really get much better, he is already 30. It is very rare, especially for forwards to improve once they hit 30. He will not have played a single game in the NHL until he is 31 basically, he has pretty much peaked

Even if it wasn't that blatantly dirty it still has left Comeau out, I'm glad something like this happened maybe a bunch of beat downs like this is what it takes to get those blind side concussion causing hits out of the game. Claude DID NOT have a chance to defend himself anymore then Talbot did, Mccarty spun and fired a punch giving Lemieux maybe a second at most to defend himself. The circumstances aren't different at all. A dirty hit on a teammate, both guys get their bell rung with a suckerpunch except if anything, Macs was worse because he was throwing knees and bloodied the guy. Martin let up when Talbot was down. Meh, Talbot had a borderline hit last time these 2 played and Comeau hasn't played since. Mccarty spun around and completely suckered him before Claude had a chance to defend himself, then proceeded to knee him in the face with shin pads on. SO just because the wings were good back then means teams can't stick up for themselves, the wings hadn't won anything up until then and that brawl in 97 was the wings turning point. Maybe this will be the isles turning point. If you are seriously going to sit there and defend Mccartys actions then say Martin was that bad then you might actualy win the biggest homer award on this site

Godard and Gillies were involved in pretty much one incident each, what about the rest of the 15 fights lol? Those were all better or pretty even players with Mccarty. Mccarty was there as a fighter first and foremost anyways, he WAS a fighter. Just one that was pretty good at hockey as well. There is pretty much nothing different about this game than March 26th 1997 at the Joe. Mccarty's suckerpunch was actually much more vicious, blood every where and Mac was throwing knees for gods sake. Its fine if you dont like this kind of thing in hockey but if you are one of the ones who loved that Mac Lemieux incident then take off the homer glasses for once in your life

It all started last game with a bordlerine hit by Talbot on Comeau. Martin went after him and in a blow out game tempers just got heated after that. Two teams with more then enough guys willing to fight and with bad blood. Anyone who calls this disgraceful or bad for hockey is a complete hypocrite, this is no different from the wings avs back in teh day really in those big brawls

Absolutely crazy game. Embarrassing for the pens getting tuned by the isles on the scoreboard and in fights. Cant say I mind seeing it though, too bad cindy wasn't on the receiving end of one of these

You forgot one BIG thing that made Mccarty the player he was. I actually go to school with a guy who played on a line with Parkes 2 years ago. Back then he was a 4th line center for the Welland Junior B team. He tried out in the Q and made it and now is tearing it up. He is on a huge development curve right now and the sky could be the limit. He is physical and gritty in the corners, but not a Mccarty form of gritty. More of a Danny Cleary type

Yup he isn't much better then Salei but he is a bit better I would say. Its because he doesn't play a risky game, just makes the smart play and will put anyone in the league on their ass anywhere near the goalie. I think come playoff time he could help out a lot actually. Thats if Ottawa even wants to give him up, the deal he is on with his talent level and his toughness. I would want Phillips first but Carkner would be a good addition on the backend. Some meanness would rub off on Ericcson too and he always plays his best when he is playing mean.

If he were really good in Grand Rapids I would say its probably just being a rookie. But the fact of the matter is, he was never good defensively and I'm really starting to lean towards he just isn't that good. He has some offensive potential it looks like but he coughs the puck up so much and is bad in his zone

Detroit needs a defenceman that knows his damn role. We have a bunch of guys trying to play all offensive when they shouldn't. Salei is doing too much with the puck and Kindl is not strong defensively at all. Improving our D should start with moving Kindl, he has some nice hands but he makes too many mistakes and is bad in his end. Chris Phillips would be great. He and Salei could really be a great bottom pairing and allow a lot of option for line matching. I bet the defence wnot improve and we will finally see some new blood on this team. Yeah the 30 year old that is barely even outscoring 20 year old and isnt over a ppg in the AHL is critical to this teams future. I really hope whoever liked your post liked it because they were laughing so hard that you actually thought that

Sheahan has actually been tearing up pretty good lately so it seems fair that he only dropped one spot. Also his play has been good all year he was just snake bitten at the start. I still think Ferraro even without production is a very solid prospect. He has wheels, a good shot, can hit, will fight and has some nice hands. If he can put it all together he could be a second liner, if not he has the makings of a quality third line grinder type. I am surprised Parkes didnt climb higher with the season he has been having

I dont know who you realy talk to about him that says he is impressive? Myself, Drake and UK are pretty much the only ones who watch and quite frankly he isn't impressive. Tatar, Emmerton and Mursak all have games better suited for the show. His skill level isn't what I would really call better then Flips. They are similar, they both have good hands but Ilari doesn't have wheels or that great of defensive play. Seriously if people would watch a game instead of looking at score sheets they would see why these other guys all got the call before him. He is hardly outscoring guys like Mursak and Tatar who are about 8 years younger EDIT: Im sure others watch the griffs but I mean UK doesnt miss a game hardly, I catch most as well. I'm sure there are people who actually go to games and stuff

Well Fisher is a solid hitter, can fight and has proven he can put up 25 goals. He is at least on par defensively with Filpulla, and his goal totals are much better then Flips. The first round pick will be late first, and if they make it past the second round it will have been worth aquiring him. So yeah I think this is a fairly even trade

A 20 goal, 50 point guy that is great defensively and can hit and fight alight? Yeah a first and a second is worth it

Simple answer. Ward wasn't healthy at the time of the Olympics last year and there really wasn'y anyone else to go with. Price wasn't doing great and who else is there besides them? Steve Mason couldnt do it. I have little doubt Ward would have been the one chosen if both were healthy.

4 games is pretty good really when you think about it. Yeah he does a bunch of dirty stuff and should be suspended more, but just looking at what he did last night 4 is enough. Tyutin wasn't hurt at all. Now they just need to start suspending him more often and maybe when he loses out on a couple hundred thousand dollars he'll smarten up. He's a lot like Steve Moore cheap player who deserved to have their career ended, at least it happened to one of them
