Yeah I thought you would be completely against this GMR. Not a good fighter really just willing to go out and bang some bodies and will drop the gloves. He has some guts, more then a lot on our team currently. The way he hung in there with Orr was something else
-
Yeah and at 700,000 salary he could brought up and on almost a tryout until modano gets back, he can always be waived again. In the right situation, like Detroit, he could be a pretty effective 4th liner. And he has some sweet hockey flow
-
10 points in 10 games since the world junior camp, it must have helped his confidence, he is only 2 points off last years total. We may complain that he doesnt produce much, but he has shown an improvement which is something to be happy about
-
Stortini is more like a big agitator then an enforcer, hes actually a pretty decent hockey player. I would like if Detroit picked him up for the 13th forward spot. His fighting has actually improved quite a bit too as of late. Huggy bear doesn't really apply anymore. He is another one of those guys who fights but brings other things to the game
-
I think after this season for a similar price guys who could replace Rusty who are free agents include Erskine, Staios, Hal Gill, Shane O'brien or Sean O' Donnell. All are just as steady defensively but bring other things that Salei doesn't. Gill plays great in the playoffs and is a very good shut down defender. Staios has always been steady back there and has a mean streak. Erskine is probably who I would like the most back there. He is mean and a solid defenseman. O'Brien is younger then the rest but he is probably the meanest of the group, he has a little offensive potential as well, I would really like him in Detroit. O'Donnell has always been pretty good defensively and has experience to help the young guys back there.

I hope this is true, but Drake had a more physical history thhen Rusty
-
Yeah the 08 playoffs he played well, then he got hit once in 09 and disappeared. That is not a playoff player, and 2.8 million is not what you should be paying for a guy who can really only produce points on the PP, like I said earlier, bundle that money with what Miller is making and we could get a physical guy who can play the game well
-
First of all, youre right. Drake the guy with 6 points played 13 less seconds per game then 60 point scorer Jiri Hudler. That should show you something. Hudler is not a PP specialist. A PP specialist is someone like Homer who makes a PP work, Hudler is a forward who plays PP because he has offensive skill. Just because thats the only time Hudlers skill set even shows a little bit doesn't make him a "specialist". Williams is also a specialist I guess eh, he was useless at even strength but played the PP every game. HAHA this is hilarious, yeah youre right, that 20 game schedule where Drake performed is really similar to the season Hudler performed in. Youre seriously going to say the wings needed Hudlers performance to make the playoffs that season? No Hudler will not make this team miss playoffs, and EVERY wings fan knows players are judged in the playoffs, the season is just a warm up for the wings. And finally, he did not have 3rd liner minutes, he played 8:50 even strength time per game and absolutely no PK. Hudler got ice time of a one dimensional forward who has some offensive skills but can't perform when the going gets tough.
-
I would rather have a meaner guy like others have also said. Salei just isnt what he used to be anymore. He used to be a vicious hitter and pretty mean infront of the net as well. Can't complain about how he is playing because his salary is about right, but we could improve for sure. Also, this Lilja stuff is ridiculous, he isnt good anymore after getting his ass knocked out
-
Yeah and Hudlers ice time was cut by 2 minutes while Drakes increased considerably. Give me a playoff warrior like Drake over someone making almost 3 million and is completely one dimensional. Why is it that Hudlers ice time drops in the playoffs but Drakes increased by pretty much the same margin? Hudler is not a playoff type player, he is too small and soft and after he got lit up he just disappeared. Also Hudler was playing with Helm and Mccarty much of the 08 playoffs, that was the wings 4th line, so shove that up your assertion
-
Yeah hes a huge staple, last playoffs he had the 6th most PP time on ice out of every forward. And there are plenty of guys tha are less one dimensional then Hudler that can play the PP. I guess Williams was a staple too, shoulda kept him
-
Yeah much the same way that Hudlers role is reduced come playoffs. A 57 point scorer being demoted to the 4th line? Must be something useless about him come playoff time for his role to be lessened like that
-
Mason had more wins, more shutouts and had a save percentage of .001 less then Rinne and Rinee had a defense of Suter, Weber, Hamhuis and Zanon. I think Mason earned his trophy
-
I'm pretty sure esteef was saying that Hudler got hit once and became ineffective basically right after whereas a Lappy type would be the one laying a hit that would make the other team ineffective, you know Detroit is allowed to hand out a little punishment every now and then too, not everyone has to take punishment like Hudler did. Lappy would've bounced up from that hit and hit Brown back even harder probably lol
-
Haha classic bandwagoner comment. Punching people in the face has happened in hockey since the game started being played pal, maybe you should stick to watching women's hockey, it doesn't have hitting either so you'll probably like it even more since you dont seem to like the parts of hockey that have been there FROM THE BEGINNING
-
In those months where Mason had fallen back down to earth, he was still only 2 shutouts off of what Rinne had that entire season, and you could say things like that all you want. Eva after 2010-2011 season " Well uh if you dont look at Crosbys 20 something game point streak he really wasn't that great, he was inconcsistent after that so he shouldn't win any awards" Players go on streaks, thats what gets them awards, Mason had a good case for the vezina that season for gods sake
-
Biznasty definitely has a future in broadcasting hahaha he is absolutely hilarious. "David Backes? Who? Can I switch this guy for Cam Janssen?" I bet Backes can't wait to play Phoenix now
-
This isn't true. Mason was lights out, had a ton of shutouts. You just like second guessing every decision made. Z probably should have won that year, but Jackman played very, very good hockey. I thought watching him that he was going to be the next Pronger, he hasn't really panned out but he still played great that year. I would love to have him on Detroit instead of Salei
-
I would kind of understand this lawsuit butt here is some stuff fishy about it. To me it really does just seem like someone going nowhere in hockey tryingt o get some money out of it. I understand being politically correct, but it is becoming a way for people to be lazy and make money off of others where it really shouldn't. Should the coach maybe be fired or something? Maybe, but I dont think this kid should be given a million dollars to deal with the problem
-
Haha well if theres any nationality that could stomach it, its a newfie. I mean, you gotta stay warm on a fishing boat somehow right?
-
Hahahahaha good stuff
-
Yeah but Newfies have their own culture and stuff, obviously a lot of Irish ancestory but very different in a lot of ways, people often think a newfie is the same thing as an irishman which is not the case Newfies drink screech (that'll put hair on your chest) not whiskey... this is probably the biggest difference Newfies play accordians too. Other then that its kinda close haha
-
Newfy is different then Irish pal...
-
Sheahan wont be too long boys, no worries. But O'brien is a good fill in for the time being
-
So would I 100%. But Drake was absolutely fine here when he wasn't in his prime and only put up 6 points all season. People really put too much emphasis on a guy being able to produce points it seems. drake sure as hell didn't but most people would be absolutely happy to have him back here
